  • Short video i made on fully cleaning and disassembling and reassembling you cordless dyson v6 vacuum cleaner. This series is a dc59 but will work on all v6 cordless vacuum cleaners. If you have any clogs or loss of suction disassemble and clean the entire unit. If you need a replacement filter to keep running properly i recommend the following filters in amazon link below. Also there is links below for a extended battery. But make sure the battery style is the same as the links.
And a charger cable is required for extended battery. The extended battery is a better option for running time but you cannot use the original docking station. There are good non dyson battery in link below that will fit docking station. If this video helped you out cleaning or repairing your dyson please consider the links below. Any purchases from the amazon links really help me out so i can start making more vacuum tutorials and reviews for everyone.

All this money spent on a vacuum cleaner and you have to be a mechanic to clean it! This has been the worst bit of money I have spent! Who can do all that to clean your vacuum, not me? Sorry but I am over Dyson!😈

It doesn’t take that much time to learn and do this. You get to see how vacuums are design and constructed. Dysons are the best designed and longest performing brands there are. You do get your money’s worth per use.

You sir are a gentleman and a scholar. My poor dyson has been gasping for life for ages. Cleaned the filter, replaced the battery, but it still ran for just a few seconds at a time. Followed your instructions and cleaned the hell out of it. It lives!! Thanks, man!

Shannon this was the nicest comment to wake up to. I bought out a closed dyson store during the pandemic. Shoot me a email I think I got enough part to get you upgraded from the v6 model. Last thing you wanna worry bout while he is gone is a frigging vacuum. The cup on the v6 is really small.

I really liked your video, Michael. It was clear and easy to follow and you didn't waste my time or bore me to death at any. point. Only thing I had trouble with was the gizmo with the five screws where you need the special tool. I walked down to the hardware store but they didn't have it. So I walked home, got the car and drove to the one on Pine Street (Burlington, VT). They didn't have it either. So I drove to Lowes where after a lot of trouble I got the damn thing. Got back and realized that the torque head did not just fit into the screw driver thing, but had to be used with some mysterious attachment. Fortunately, I had a pair of scissors that jammed into the orifice okay and I was able to proceed.
This is where I think you should modify your instructions. Tell people to take those little specialty screws out and put them somewhere safe. Because, at this point I took all my parts over to the sink to wash. ( I really like things to be clean!) There was an ominous clicking and skittering sound as the little specialty screws I had forgot about sped down the drain! Fortunately, had two left and damn that will have to do!
The "Jesus clip" or whatever you called it completely baffled me, so I stopped there. Everything went back together okay but I was so tired I couldn't remember which was the new battery. Oh well! I'm sure this will become clear before long. I took a shower and put a band-aid on my cut finger.
The vacuum cleaner works great! Or it did until the battery went dead. I think that it was the new battery and it just needed charging.

Thank you! Mine is now apart and drying on the counter for the next 2 days. Didn't even need to bug my husband to do this. Hardest part was taking the little purple thing off with the straight blade. New battery is ready to put in and hopefully no more dog smell.

Thanks for posting this. After about 18 months of use, the vacuum would expel a full charge in about 30 seconds. I left it alone for two years before deciding to buy a battery today. Then I thought, why don't I see if it could be another issue, and low and behold I found you. My SV03 was so caked with dirt and debris blocking about everything that sucks or blows... Normal maintenance had not done the trick so I'm now waiting for everything to dry so I can prove my theory, but am confident this will solve the problem. Thanks again!!!

To be fair though, the reason why most people don't clean theirs like that is because it's kinda difficult for the average person. There are people who literally can't change alight bulb. And the user manual doesn't provide comprehensive cleaning instructions either.

Greetings from South Africa. Great video, extremely helpful and did it myself. Shock and horrors and once separated my Dyson was really mucky! Just a note: the removable blue pre filter can be thoroughly cleaned by unclipping it around the neck of the filter. The spine slides out and one will note that dust and hairs does escape through the filter and gathers around the spine. Rinse and click back together. Thank you.

Extremely helpful! moreso than the other videos on youtube. Some additional tips I found while taking it apart. If you found this helpful, upvote the comment so others will see it or perhaps he can update the video notes/info with this.
If you don't have a Etorx T8. (not very common):
I have a few different sets of tools and have multiple T10 and higher but not a T8. You can get away with using a precision screwdriver about 2.4mm (it might be 1.8mm). You might already have it lying around for watch, glasses, computer repair. However if you're going to go buy a tool specifically for this get the T8, the precision screwdriver can be a pain to turn since there's not a lot of grip.
Removing the backplate to the prefilter at 15:22 in the video: (easier way without damaging it)
Rather than removing it the way he did in the video, at the base of the handle in the rear towards the middle you'll notice a divot that you can insert a flat head screwdriver. Insert there and pop it off from the base, then work your way up and pull the back plate off. You can place a napkin or something over the divot, then put your screwdriver in order to prevent scratching as well. If you do it the way he does it, there's a good chance you'll scratch up the side of it.

Super-excellent video. I am a do it yourself kind of guy, and the Dyson unit had me flummoxed. One thing about these Dysons...if there is any blockage in the filters or flow-thru, the unit starts to hesitate on/off: a little over-sensitive. I really appreciate the time and detail of your video.

Luann make sure you try to keep the v6 series up and running. Im using the newer dyson v10,v11,v15 series at my building and i cant keep the head unit from breaking and having the wheel damaged in 6months. Major design flaw with the newer models. The v7 or v8 would be the best option if you ever upgrade the only downfall is the canister size. The v7 v8 series in my personal opinion is the best option and not the new v8 with electronic display.

Spotted another video before I tried to prise the top of the filter. The pipe from the bin had a blockage, not a big one but there was enough fluff to create a blockage. I then discovered that the flap at the back was jammed. Managed to push hard on the flap with a pen and dislodge it. No longer pulsating so thanks for your video which pointed me in the right direction.

Wow- amazing. Thank you so much. My wife was complaining about less sucking power and wanted me to buy another. With your step by step instructions I was able to find a buttload of dirt, no wonder it smelled bad when we used it. I did everything you said and they both run like new. Can’t thank you enough !!👍😊🍺

Oh, and since you advised the filter close to motor was output filter And maybe some type of oil. I added some essential oil to it. Eucalyptus and now when we are cleaning house we are air freshening too 😊👍🤷🏼‍♂️

Thank you very much for this - I'd been getting mine wet, thinking I was cleaning it - only for it to get more smelly. And now I see while I was removing *some* of the dirt, I was also leaving some behind, and making it wet - hence the worse smells! Mine is now off air-drying before being put back together. Time to buy a new battery too I think

Which filter did you add the essential oil to? The cone shaped purple one or the gray filters in the exhaust?
