The Chevrolet Chevy II/Nova is a small automobile manufactured by Chevrolet, and produced in five generations for the 1962 through 1979, and 1985 through 1988 model years. Built on the X-body platform, the Nova was the top selling model in the Chevy II lineup through 1968. The Chevy II nameplate was dropped after 1968, with Nova becoming the nameplate for all of the 1969 through 1979 models. It was replaced by the 1980 Chevrolet Citation introduced in the spring of 1979. The Nova nameplate returned in 1985, produced through 1988 as a S-car based, NUMMI manufactured, subcompact based on the front wheel drive, Japan home-based Toyota Sprinter.
Available engines for the Chevy II in 1962 and 1963 included Chevrolet's inline-four engine of 153 cu in (2.5 L) and a new 194 cu in (3.2 L) Hi-Thrift straight-six engine. All Chevy II engines featured overhead valves. A V8 engine was not available in 1962 and 1963. With no documentation proving it, the legend of a dealer installed V8 engine being in a 1962 or 1963 model year Chevy II is a myth. Refer to the GM Heritage Center 1963 Chevrolet Nova information available on the GM Heritage site.[5] In addition, that documentation does not list a V8 engine as a possible dealer installed option.
In 1962 and 1963 the Nova option for the Chevy II was available in a convertible body style, and a two-door hardtop was available from 1962 to 1965, although the hardtop was dropped when the 1964 models were first introduced, but subsequently brought back to the line later in the model year. Like all Chevy two-door hardtops, the body style was marketed as the Sport Coupe.
For 1963, the Chevy II Nova Super Sport was released, under RPO Z03.[6] It featured special emblems, instrument package, wheel covers, side moldings, bucket seats, and floor shifter, and was available only on the 400 series sport coupe and convertible.[6] Cost of the package was US$161.40, equal to $1,606.28 today.[7] As mentioned above, the Nova option could not officially have V8 engines at this time-the standard SS engine was the six-cylinder (this was also applicable to the Impala (and later the early Chevelle c. 1964-65) when the SS was a sport and appearance package)-but small-block V8 engine swaps were commonplace among enthusiasts.
Very nice and I also liked the video of the Round 2 tour. Keep up the great work and have a great day.
Great video Chris, keep em coming and I'll keep watching
Where were these beautiful kits when I was a teenager in the seventies!
Have great weekend thanks for the build yellow is great
I built this kit over 50 years ago and still have it!
I built it about 3 years ago 😁
Great to have you back at IT. Good way to pass some time on a Saturday afternoon! Great looking build, looks like a fun kit!!
Great build - thanks for sharing.
1963 Eydie Gormie, a popular singer, released her hit record "Blame It On The Bossa Nova". America went wild - everybody was releasing Bossa Nova songs. Yes, Chevy knew EXACTLY what they were doing naming their small Chevy the "Nova". So this dragster is an obvious homage to the song, the Chevy "compact" and the era. WARNING the song will never go away once you listen to it. So glad you're back, Chris - your loyal fans, like me, missed you. Just blame it on the Boss Nova, I guess...
So glad you are doing this kit, hopefully l can watch, video, later, thanks for sharing.
nice build--glad to see you back--built a previous issue of this kit and you are right those headers are a bear--gave up and got a set of zoomies from another funny car kit and used them instead
Very nice build. I really like that you went with the “box art” on this one. Glad you’re back from your break. Thanks for sharing.
Fantastic build as always.
I wasn't crazy about the model because of the mid engine.
After I watched you're build my mind is totally changed!! I'll buy 3, or 4 of them. One to build box stock, one for kit bashing, maybe a front engine A/FX??? , and as always one to add to the stash. Really been missing your videos!!! Keep up the great work. Best Model review channel on TH-cam!!!!
Funny, last night I was watching Chad from round2 talk about all the cool improvements they did with this kit...and then , here is your video on it !!!...sweeet...and thanks Chris for sharing...!!
Check out those optional intakes for other builds.
I was not going to buy this kit, but after watching you build it, I am going to pick it up! I really love watching you do these and discuss the models and the community.
Beautiful
Awesome building I really like watching your videos thanks for the great ideas I really appreciate it
Cool 👍
Looks like the same chassis from the altered wheelbase 2 door nova
Chris, yet another awesome build. You should start giving us a sneak peak of the next build at the end of the videos.
I wanted a 63 Nova 2 door for my first car back then, but they were few and far between...even back then.
Originally issued in 1971 I think, glad they reissued it. When I was a kid I remember my brother building this one.
Nice to see you modeling again!!!
Makes a nice companion piece to the standard '63 Nova wagons you built a while back. I especially like what you did with the windows. Been missing your updates lately because they have been a part of my Saturday evening viewing ever since lockdown four years ago.
Great to see you're back! I never miss one of your videos. My wife likes the way you sometimes say "Dekkles" ( or Decals ).
Awesome build, as always!
Kinda reminds me of the old S'Cool Bus kit❤
Looks awesome Chris as usual.
Great looking kit Chris really nice job love it I wish the would bring back out the school bus dragster kit is hard to fine and very expensive on ebay and mostly started or missing pieces thanks for sharing and great to have you back building the models again
Such a cool kit, I think this would be a cool one to for the chrome engine! I like this kit!!!
Depending on how you want the model built, you don’t have to worry about the body at all. I got the idea to build only the chassis and not worry about the body at all.
Awesome kit. Fantastic work as usual. Only "gripe" is they chrome plated the engine block/heads/oil pan/transmission, but that can be solved by a soak in Castrol Super Clean.
A " PERFECT " Box Stock Build Chris & Welcome Back Brother 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆 Thanks For Sharing n Have a Blessed Wknd Buddy 🙏🤗 Gary.
I just got me one in the mail great kit
Nice build Chris!
I like how you use your voice on others saying well it's not authentic!
As you say it's a hobby build how you want to build it and don't let others discourage you!
Again nice build!
I love your videos man! Im initiating on this hobby and your videos help me a lot! Thanks for doing it!
Boss build! Fun vid.
Im gonna buy one and update it to a 70 Nova using those front fenders from the Old Pro Nova😂❤
I’ve never seen a chrome reel to reel
🤣🤣
That is one neat Nova funny car!
👍👍
I think i need this!
1963. Chevy. Boss. Nova. Wagon. Hemi. Funny. Car. 1/25. Scale. Model
I want one 😊😊😊😊😊
You sound like the guy off junk yard gold. Lol
Im gonna put a second engine in that engine compartment area
What type of glue do you you use and how fast do it get hard. I'm gust getting back into the hobby at 66😊
I 60 an have always found Revell glue to be good especially with it spout if it ever gets block just cut off a piece bristle from your broom
Hpi can you do a model with photo etch parts
AMT is trying to get alot of miles off of this body, with other versions in recent releases.
Does the glue that you use give any wiggle room, or is it an instant bond like CA glue?
Chris, beautiful build. I do have a question however. I recently finished my 1970 Plymouth Roadrunner and it looked fantastic. But when I put the florr polish on the finished paint it dulled it and left streaks on the paint and window glass. Very disappointed. Has this ever happened to any of your builds? Any suggestions on a fix? Thank you for all you do for the modeling community. Keep up the great reviews.
I would strip the chrome first and a Hemi has the distributor at the front of the engine.
I would love to have the decals you don't use!! Nice build. Really been enjoying the videos since I just started building again.
Omg $90 😂
Should’ve been Boss~a~Nova.
Why don't the companies just do 1 pc. Tires. Would it not be easier. I don't get the 2 pc. It makes no sense.
I'm not really a big fan of chrome motors
