      I'd also love a compression lock lightweight Manix with no liners. Like a Para 3 and a Manix 2 had a kid.

      @@ZPositive I would love this Manix 2 LW "Compression Lock" design as well, only *with* liners, exactly like the Sage 5 Lightweight w/ Compression Lock. That would be the "Ultimate Lightweight" in their entire LW series. The liners don't add much weight at all & you get a much more sturdy construction at the cost of one ounce, *maybe* . I value carrying my Sage5 Lightweight over my Para3 Lightweight for this very reason & the weight is hardly noticeable in pocket or in hand.. unless you literally hold both of them but it's miniscule.

      Agree, except they went away from SPY27 in this new "screw construction" model. I'm not, at least not yet, a knife "guru" so I don't know the benefits of the new steel but I'd done enough hearing reviews to be excited about the SPY27 (plus I liked the aqua color making it easy to see where/when I set the knife down on a cluttered work surface)

    Wow. Thanks for all the knowledge sir. All other manix videos can go back to their boards. This is it. Its like if you put into words what I felt using the ball bearing for the first time. I couldnt describe it but I knew that was the most solid, well engineered, piece of master craftmanship I could afford. And it was very similarly priced to axis locks with much cheaper build overall. I am extremely pleased with my manix 2 full liners original black satin g10. It only gets better with time and it breaks it. 0 play. The s30v is wow sharp, feels good and extremely precisely treated/crafted. You have to compare blades in real time to truely understand it. Go to a shop and flick em' all. You'll buy a colorado spyderco. If you can afford even the entry models. 10x more worth it than a civivi/kizer/china blade. Barely the price of 2 knives. Benchmade is good but you pay 2 manix 2 to get a griptilian sheepfoot with solid scales. Not worth it. Im more of a flipper/button type, have been forever. But the spyderco hole is just there to stay. They need to expand their ball bearing lines. I would instantly buy a smaller model. If they can pull it on weights. I think for the ball bearing you need more heft to your click so to speak. Heavier metals can help. Hell i wouldnt care if it was stiff. Its the lock quality of the balls we like.

I now have over 20 Spydercos, and slowly adding more. I actually carried that original one today. I also have a GITD Manix 2 XL, a few other light weights, and one G10 version. This is a great knife for left-handers too. Other than the pocket clip, the opening hole and the lock are completely ambidextrous. Of course the clip can be flipped in a matter of seconds making it completely left hand friendly. This design is definitely a win, I have the translucent blue lightweight in BD1N and the blue G-10 in S110V. The lightweight is my work knife since it’s cheaper and the G-10 version is more for on-the-town carry.

    Screw construction is a recognition that knife people like to tinker and play with their knives, kind of like gun people, imagine that. And maybe eventually NOW that Spyderco recognized that about their clientele, the flimsy excuse of "we don't encourage amateur knife construction" as a response for a request for a replacement blade for a chipped blade on your Spyderco Nilakka, which had various people addressing that particular issue would have more thought and consideration. Not to mention an opportunity to make money and effect a resolution with the end of having a happy customer(s). A knife which has a wonderful design and purpose drive design that should have had a blade steel that was reflective of that purpose. I don't know something like a D2 or Maxamet replacement blade for a knife who's design purpose is bush craft.

    Manix 2 and / or Manix 2 lightweight with Magnacut when? Bought the S30V Manix 2 for my brother and fell in love with it, unfortunately it was his birthday and not mine, but mine is coming up and Magnacut Manix 2 would be the perfect knife in my opinion.

    I really enjoy my Spyderco knives, but what I've learned from buying some of their "lightweight" models is that is code for "made cheaper".

    Will all lightweight Manix 2 transition to screw together construction?

  • @brandon_crow1291

    So here's my question, can I switch my riveted manix 2 LW to screws over the frankly aweful idea of rivits? It would be really great to be able to clean the thing when it gets gritty or hell even change the scales or ball lock housing if I so choose.

    • @roboticd
      @roboticd ปีที่แล้ว

      You can only change the scales on the g-10 models. The handle of lightweights are the structure of the knife because there's no liners. Converting a riveted LW to screws would be difficult, as most of the parts would have to be swapped out, as 2 of the screws go in to the spacer that holds the ball lock, so that would have to be swapped for a threaded spacer, and with the way the handle has been restructured to allow screws, you'd have to swap handle halves and basically be putting the blade and the ball lock housing in an entirely different knife.

    Quick question, are the two injection molded handle halves for the screwed construction model the same parts as the injection molded halves for the riveted construction model? I know those rivets have a very small OD, and I'd guess you need larger holes in the FRN/FRCP to accommodate 4-40 hardware.

    • @narkfly
      @narkfly ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Based on homebrew conversions I've seen folks upgrading their own Manixen from peened to screwed hardware: I'd wager you're correct, likely different scales to accommodate the larger diameter screw attachment.

      I can't wait for my Manix 2 LW to arrive & my first task will be exactly this conversion.

    There is no way I'm buying a knife I can't disassemble. Those rivets are deal-breaker. I EDC the Manix 2 S30V all black (deep carry clip and metal cage).

    The Manix 2 has become one of my favorite Spyderco knives. I have the 15v version and would love to be able to lighten it up with the light weight handles. Is there any chance of a kit from Spyderco to make the conversion? Or Better still release a 15v lightweight?
    Thanks for the video. : )
