Ford’s Pro Power Onboard is a must-have feature. See why: th-cam.com/video/Cdna9bQlfIk/w-d-xo.html
The only 2 options I picked was the 360 cam and the 9.6 kW Pro Power. Both seemed like must-have features for different reasons.
I just ordered an $80,000 Lariat Lightning with standard range battery for $56K with 4000 miles on it. It’s going to be my daily driver. I do not tow and I do not need it for road trips. I love the power, the technology, and charging for about $12 versus filling a gas tank for $85.
I know the truck is not for everyone, but it IS the truck for me. 👍🏽👍🏽
Ford needs to start building more Pro trims. I only see Lariat and Platinum trims at dealers near me.
Ford sold most of the pros to fleets. We had to buy used with 5000 miles.
We just purchased a 2022 PRO last month. We LOVE IT! We don't have the ER battery, or the 9.6 Pro Power. You are right! it MOVES! My husband thinks he's something in his truck. We own a small home improvement business so the vinyl is PERFECT for us. We average 2.8-3.1 mi/kwh, so our range is EXCELLENT.
Congrats! It's a great truck. I love the Pro model's back-to-basics approach. You still get plenty of amenities, but no unnecessary, over-the-top features. Thanks for watching!

@@craigcole5497 less features = less trips to the service department. My bZ4X is loaded, it’s nice, but that truck……
@@JandCDoodles That's what my Grandma used to say; every feature 2day is a problem 2ma. When Ford says "starting at $49,995", that's the truck I want. I've always gone with base models and they seem to keep more of their value. That King Ranch name plate looses a lot more value than the truck itself after 10 years. Nothing against the high-end trucks, either. They really are nice and if that's your thing, go for it.
Have you sold it yet, or trying desperately to?
@@mikemccormick8115 we traded that one for a Lightning Lariat. Love it.
The folding shifter was cheaper to install on every single Lightning. To design and install a special, non-folding shifter exclusively for the least produced, least expensive trim would've cost too much extra, passed on to the PRO customer. Besides, the workspace is just a double hinged console lid with about four 7mm bolts; simple upgrade. Running boards; few hundred bucks and 9 bolts on either side. Keypad on the driver door; less than $250 and 60 minutes work. Zone lighting in the bed; $50 and 20 minutes work.
Best Lightning because its the only trim with durable vinyl interior and so many of the factory offered upgrades are easy and affordable to add as you go. Ive always liked tinkering with my truck, though.
I just wish I could've gotten that battery but I wasn't willing to buy anything but a PRO, so Ford kept me on the reservation list from Oct 21st 2021 until I ordered it on Aug 8th 2023. I'm really excited to get it.
My sticker is $55,629.
The cheapest version with the extended battery and cloth instead of the vinyl I wanted had a sticker of $72,198. Besides that being more than I can afford on a compromise over interior, is 75 miles extra and a slightly quicker charge really worth $17,000 extra? Maybe if you do long hauls or road trips, but the standard battery should be fine for me.
I love the Pro except the lack of a long range battery option and the fact that they generally don't exist at the moment for purchase...
That's the truck that I wanted how ever many years ago Ford advertised it for 20K less - please do not lecture me about what caused the change in cost - I've followed it carefully and would still love to have one. I have the flexibility and where-with-all to make the 50k version work but Ford's messed this up so much I just can't .. . . . . . . . . . . . sigh.
I just got my 2023 lightning two weeks ago XLT standard range 57,000 0% interest for 60 months through Ford it’s the best truck ever! They definitely put the purchaser before the investor. It’s very robust, smooth, fast and comfortable.
Agree on the battery size for the Pro. Would love an option for the larger battery or better yet the development of a small ICE range extender.
It's a pickup. Just get a $500 generator and strap it down in the bed. You'll have to use the mobile charger so it'll be slow, but you could do roadside charging with it. That's not really extending the range but it would be good in emergency cases.
@@raypeeler3585 unfortunately a basic generator wouldn’t really add much range, and therefor value, to an EV pickup. It’d have to be a pretty sizable unit of on the order of 50-75+kw to really do anything in that regard.
@ALMX5DP Nah, ur absolutely right. The mobile cable only adds about 5 miles per hour of charging so it won't extend the range, but it would be good if ur 15 miles away from home or the next charger and don't have 15 miles left. It would've been nice if Ford had offered the Lightning as an optional plug-in hybrid, but as far as I understand, it's against EPA regulations to modify or in this case, add an exhaust system to convert it into a plug-in hybrid, aftermarket. 1st thing I thought, instead of the fruck, they should've offered a 2.0 L 4 cylinder at least, to keep the battery charging on the go, as needed. I'm just going to keep a genny in the bed and mobile charge cable in the frunk until I feel comfortable with the 230-mile range.
@@raypeeler3585 agreed. A generator isn’t a terrible idea if you have the bed space available. If you could put something that at least outputs 30A service then that would be pretty fantastic to add maybe 12-15 miles of range per hour.
@ALMX5DP yep, that's what I've got. I love driving a truck, but I never really haul anything, so pletty of space under the topper. This will be my 1st EV so I'm just a bit nervous about the reduced range; I doubt I ever do roadside charging, but just in case, for the 1st few months anyway
What is interesting is that the PRO model has all the hard parts.
AWD, tow hitch, e windows & door locks, ac, the better models
just add window dressing. Im debating weather to buy a 2nd
hand Lightning as without an engine or trans those are the 2
expensive parts which if bad can make a used vehicle a lemon.
Not so with an EV unless the batt pack is bad but the dash will
give you a diagnostics read on the health of the batt pack. Im
thinking about it.
!
If this truck had a range of 300 miles and NAC support without an adapter, I'd buy it right now.
I can’t imagine it’s tough to add the flat surface center console.
I have a 150 lightning, it's a 4th vehicle, so basically a toy. It is awesome though!
Was looking in at the Lighting Pro, then at SoCals ~.28¢ per kwh ( current gas at 4.99$ Costco) a vehicle with over 40mpg is actually cheap to run. Granted you dont have ICE maintenance like fluids and such plus
For me personally, I pay $0.114/kwh at home. At our current gas prices in the midwest, that is about a 67 MPGe assuming the Lightning gets ~3 miles/kWh
I would like to put a group together so that we could buy 5 or more of the pro with the larger battery. Like a group buy but calling it a commercial buy. I am all in, let me know if you would want to do this.
So you do a whole video on a vehicle you love but we can’t buy, you should be on Top Gear!
running boards keep you from sliding in and out causing wear on the seat.
Just find a fleet dealer, most of them will sell to private individuals. Just secure your financing first and then go pick up your extended range Pro.
Where are you going to charge this thing?
How much range do you get towing that 10,000 lbs?
Home. Public chargers. Work. Where we charge EVs now.
How did you get a Pro Extended range truck to showcase? Is this your truck? Is there some way that the public can purchase one of those trucks? They're the perfect truck.
Unfortunately, the general public cannot. You have to have a Ford Fleet Identification Number. We agree, it's the perfect version of this truck.
We receive media loans from the manufacturer for the purpose of reviews, which is a pretty common industry practice. Wish we could say this truck was ours, though.
@@EVPulse what does the manufacturer do with those media loans? are they all sitting in a warehouse not being driven? do they sell those?
Car review TH-cam channels / websites receive loans from the manufacturer to review the vehicle. After they've made the rounds, they're sold at auction.@@brianbecker1180
@@EVPulse do they make those auctions known to the public?
They don't do specific auctions. They just go to local car auctions like what dealerships and stuff use. TH-cam doesn't like sharing links, but there's some car websites that have covered it in detail worth searching out if you're interested.@@brianbecker1180
Ford is acting like these things are iPhones back in 07. This is going to backfire bigtime I'm going to wait to get my lightning for pennies on the dollar
with a battery that will need replacing in a few years and total it out lmao
You could probably increase the battery capacity with a regular cab.
Ford or Dealerships are taking $7500 federal tax credits. By overpricing these trucks.
Not offering the truck to everyday customers really. All these mega corporations are still living in Pandemic La La land. Just wait a few more months and they will be giving this truck away.
Crazy to think that Ford will not sale the public the extended range. Ford is shooting themselves in the foot on their EVs.
Dealers are selling them, if you do a search. But officially, yeah we don't get it.
240 miles is not enough for most folks? How cute, I put 70000 miles on a 240 mile range model three in 2.5 years or translated to dumb speak about 28000 miles a year or twice the national average miles driven, this includes two trips from Seattle to Wisconsin, one from Vancouver BC to Indio California, (in two days) and several regional 800 mile road trips through the most rural states in the union. What a joke. The average person drives less than 30 miles a day and the average road trip only covers 400 miles a day.
Yes most people don’t need that range. Obviously. But towing drops 240 to 120-150. Most people want the buffer even if they don’t need it.
Also your model 3 peaks at 170 kW. Lightning peaks at 150 kW. Plus you had the advantage of the best charging network.
I totally agree with you that 240 miles is plenty of range in the city. My only concern is when I want to go on a road trip. Driving above 70 mph reduces the range. Mix in winter time and it reduces more. I imagine a model 3's range at highway speeds is way better than an F-150's. Now, I don't want to buy a truck to handle the 1% of things I do, but I do want a truck that does EVERYTHING for me. Having that extended range on a pro would be the ideal truck. Solves every problem for me. Only problem is you can't get one.
If your going to work out of it you will drive a lot more than 30 and get 150 mpg and spend a couple of hours a week charging it
Yup. All about perspective. 🤙🏼
Wait until all the fools who bought them find out their resale value is terrible and nobody wants them.😂
😂😂😂😂 what a clown
