- Why was Cats Don't Dance a massive failure at the box office? It cost over 30 million dollars to make but only made 3 million back. Why did such a great movie fail?

Sorry for being late on this one! This week was crazy busy. Hope y'all like this review of one of my favorite non-Disney animated movies!
Ironic how the story was about unrecognized talent and that’s what happened to the movie.
Fun Fact: This was the first Non-Disney animated film to win the Annie Awards for Best Animated Film.
I loved "Cats Don't Dance" as a kid. I actually had a hard time trying to find it down the road when I wanted to see it again.
WAIT THAT'S THAT FILM!!! THE PAGEMASTER!! You mean it
I didn't realize this movie was such a complete financial failure. It was fucking great! Iron Giant too.
It's a shame this movie is considered a failure. It gives me the same vibe as Emperor's New Groove, although a musical.
I love how expressive they make everybody in this movie, especially the villains. Darla Dimple goes from wholesome to raging lunacy at the drop of a hat and it's all animated to perfection.
I'm guessing Michael Jackson dropped out of the project, because 1993 - 1994 was when he dealt with his first accusation of child abuse. I also read that he was taking painkillers to cope with all the stress. Based on the newspaper article with interviews from David Kirschner, Michael Jackson put in his heart & soul for "Cats Don't Dance". If he went through with this project, we may have seen a live-action/CGI hybrid that would've blown us away like the audience while they're watching Danny, Sawyer, and the others perform on stage at the ending.
This movie meant EVERYTHING to me when I was a kid, I had no idea it was a flop! I always just assumed it was in the same echelons as my other favorites, damn. I'm glad you liked it! It deserves a better shake than it got
"Cats Don't Dance" is kind of the "Wander Over Yonder" of the 90s when you think about it.
HOW Does the KITTY KAT
Cats Dont Dance: Sir, this movie is really coming together were thinking its gonna do real well
"How does the kitty cat goooooooooo?"
“Remember the page master?”
“There was a rumour, that there was going to be a hybrid live action sequel.”
Cats Don't Dance is one of my childhood favorites. It's such a gem, I almost named my daughter Sawyer. ❤
"she's my fave anthro design ever, like....EVER!"
"Cats don't dance"
I also love that Darla is clearly meant to be a Shirley Temple-like character hahaha
