Saberspark i think show was more to line of getting Japanese anime with some of this almost sexual feeling content yeah yeah i hear oh this is a dumb comment stfu live with my opinion
Just look at older cartoons wit betty boop and the old alvin and the chipmunks cartoon. They had to make a way for boys to watch a show bout girl spies
I always thought the whole “bondage” part of each episode was just the running trope/gag where the spy gets captured only for the evil villain to monologue, leave, and then they escape.
When Totally Spies came out, I was right in the target audience, so I never really noticed anything odd. I absolutely LOVED that there was an action cartoon for girls. As a little girl with a very active imagination, the suspension of disbelief needed for this show was very easy to achieve. That being said, watching this video as an adult explains a few things about myself... 😂😳😬
Even being a boy, I still saw the show more for it's characters facing dangerous hardships in their line of work. I especially remember an episode where they faced people with long nails they use as claws, definitely what I call suspenseful and action packed.
I sometimes watched this show because it was one of the only action shows with female MCs, but tbh I couldn't relate to the girls' obsession with clothes and shopping and thought the show was kind of shallow. I think the show would have been even more successful with it's target audience if they gave the girls different personalities and interests, kind of like the Powerpuff Girls. On another note, I now have a bondage fetish, but that is at least in part due too another piece of media I consumed as a child.
Okey here is my honest experience with this show I liked it because of the those gadgets that the girls were given like hairdryers that turn into guns and laser bracelets ect.. because those were everyday items that are laying arround in the house and therefore that i can get creative and use them when i'm playing arround with my sister and reenacting the episodes pretending to be spies One thing that attracted me to it is the fact that they change thir outfits in every episode while every other cartoon used to make a single outfit for their character that get boring easely Other then that i didn't get any weird vibes from it and i don't really have any kinks
And tbh I just loved a good girl empowerment show. They always got the job done, and they looked super cute doing it. It had romance (at least for a kid's show) and it had love-to-hate characters (Fucking mandy). I think it was just a good tv show lmao
I didn't actually notice any fetishistic side with Totally Spies when I was young, I could only see the spies facing dangerous hardships in their line of work.
I remember finding the concept of a vampire bite weirdly romantic as a kid, but not necessarily because of life draining. Now as an adult I no longer have an interest in it because I've concluded hickeys and bites are gross.
Most perilous scenarios may be seen as erotic fantasy if portayed in proper context. I think it might have something to do with them working as strong emotional stimuli and creating an artificial rush, which some people's minds link with sexual pleasure.
@@kalejuice5701 Considering how a lot of media portrays vampires as being seductive or at the very least charming, it makes sense that people would be into it. I remember during the vampire craze a few years back I didn't get why the concept of a blood-sucking, 100 year old dead guy would be perceived as attractive...then I read "Interview with the Vampire" and saw how the biting scenes were written (lots of emphasis on close human contact and seductive whispering) and thought "yeah, this isn't doing it for me but I totally get why people (both in the book and in reality) are so down with it now."
@@AllyGatorAnimator If you ever played Skyrim the way the first Vampire was made? She was raped to literal death by a God/God of Vampires who is known as the King Of Rape
I saw a list of the “fetishes” that this show supposedly had. A couple of them were normal things like bondage or feet, but then they would say things like “Italian food fetish” or “putting on gloves fetish”, or “brushing teeth fetish”. It really said a lot more about the acccusers than it did about the creators.
Some of these made sens others really didn't and were just pushed because they're attractive teenage girls even the bandages were common for hero or spy show to have the villain do the monologue
I don't think Totally Spies was fetish in disguise, I remember back then the main cartoon trope was GOOD GUYS GET CAPTURED AND HAVE TO FIND A WAY TO ESCAPE! And a lot of the stuff that happened to them was based on the plot of the episode. however, I certainly I am not gonna deny it definitely had to of started some people down the path of fetish. There's probably some areas where sexual underlying jokes were put in on purpose, too.
Sarvina Valentine considering this show is made and animeted by adults i wouldnt be quick to dismiss that too now im not saying every show made by adults probably has some purposefully inserted sexual innuendos in it, kim possible is also a show about a teenage girl spy but it never had this kind of allegations
Um, excuse me, what? 0_o That's the main plot of cartoons NOW. At least, the kids ones. Remember cute shows like Timothy goes to school and Hey Arnold where a certain character struggled with his or her problem and it usually had nothing to do with defeating bad guys? Maybe things were different for you but I didn't watch any of those super hero shows as a kid.
Anyone else remember an episode where a mad scientist was determined to freeze the world, essentially committing genocide, and had chosen Clover to be his wife in the new world...? Still kind of haunts my brain. He also had an issue with chess.
Remember the circus owner who grew up in a freakshow and used the carnival rides to turn people into monsters to host his own? That episode is the one I remember the most clearly. Sam got freaky crab claws for hands, Alex got turned into a human fish and poor Clover was turned into an elephant mutant! Please tell me I’m not the only one who remembers that episode.
@@DaliaMiller Yeah, they were a popular band in Japan before the cartoon was made to capitalize on the popularity of J-Pop at the time. That's why the sections with the live action band members are so weird, they didn't really speak English well.
To this day, all I see is a show that chose to get *_super_* creative with what physically happened to its cast. The fetishes were just a side-effect for many.
i agree. people apparently cannot look at creative ideas anymore without seeing them in a sexual context. this show isn't sexualised, the people who watched it sexualised it. it's truly just perversion at its best
Ditto. Looking back now, I really appreciate this show for stepping out of the box and coming up with creative villains and concepts. Weirdly enough, I’ve NEVER seen anything done in Totally Spies as fetish fuel. I didn’t back when I was a kid, and I don’t see it now. I just see it as wacky, OTT, weird anime like humour- which, as a huge anime fan, I can definitely appreciate.
@@Cheetahgirl_Studios finally someone who gets it. the only way this show can come off sexual or fetishy is by people not being able to distinguish the act from the fetish. not every rope is bondage, etc. all of this CAN be sexual but people instantly see it and say "that's sexual"...not how it goes. the only ppl making it sexual and fetishy are the ones sexualising it like this. props to this show for being so damn creative. better than 99% of the same type of recycles villains
No, they were entirely intentional. For heaven's sake, this series is basically an animated Charlie's Angels, and that show was basically James Bond but with female leads, and there's no way you can deny James Bond's dirtiness.
@@thewanderingmistnull2451 yeah no. "this show is like this one, which is like this one, which is dirty so therefore this one's dirty too!!!". how far can you go, lol?
Wow I remember Totally Spies being part of my childhood, but I never really noticed the fetish stuff. To me it was all just "well it's a cartoon so... Weird shit happens". Now that you point it out though, damn there's a lot.
If your perverted enough sure but it's not really, it's a spy show and spy shows or stories tend to be like this and then it's amplified by the inherent weirdness of cartoons. Heck this shit can also be applied to Kim Possible, so what I'm saying is don't over think it.
I like how a lot of people don't actually think it's really sexual until someone is perverted enough to realize it. Edit: If someone is knowledgeable enough to realize it, not necessarily perverted. Whole show is weird either way.
Neva9999 Vritra I thought the same thing until I realized why I thought like that, because I was exposed to fucking hentai and bondage porn, its a fucking regular spy show dealing with teen girl problems.
Scarfeather I don't know if it's the wisest, but it's definitely food for thought... Because when and where someone lack or lose humanity? As humans, everything one do and think is part of the human nature. I know a myriad of bad habits/traits that just makes us what we are. Also, what would define a human, so when the definition in that person is absent, we can say he or she is now inhuman?
Sure Totally Spies may be weird when we think about it, but it’s also one of the most memorable and popular animated shows in the 2000s. Not only airing in 150 countries, but it also set the trend for anime style animation for countries other than Japan. Besides, Codename Kids Next Door and even Kim Possible got a little help from this show. Some elements and character background would also inspire another successful French animated show, Miraculous.
Shows often form a formula. In this case the basic formula for Totally Spies can be boiled down to this: - Drama (with different outfits each episode to sell toys) - The girls get surprised by one of Jerry's wacky traps - Debriefing on the villain of the week - Gadgets shown and foreshadowed (each sold separately at your local toy store) - The girls sneak in enemy base using the gadgets - The girls get caught - One of the girls get mind controlled, transformed, etc. to showcase the villain's scheme in action - Villain of the week explains evil plan to girls while they are bound and sent to death or something - The girls use the gadgets to free themselves - Confront and defeat villain of the week - Drama concludes
I'm pretty sure the "so much bondage" was simply because it was like stereotypical spy stuff so the villian catching ths spies and trapping them is obviously going to be in there
Angles dont have to be sexual. They can be cool and engaging and challenging for artists. Using a flat angle for every scene would be boring. As a child and even now I respect the angles as being simply that. Impressive and engaging. I never noticed the feet before tho and cant defend that. But cherry picking and confirmation bias is also a thing.
As a kid I newer noticed how over sexualized it was. I just LOVED TO WATCH IT! Edit1:wtf thank u for this many likes XD Edit2: .-. XD FFS WITH THE WEIRD COMMENTS.
Dude, you didn't even cover the whole list. There was that time they went mute, and became mimes and clowns, and the age regression episode with the Eighties clothes, and the body swapping across gender lines...
Having the agents restrained is just a cheap plot device, a lazy way to make characters unable to interfere in the progression of the story and be put in a defenseless position; for a series with so many episodes about spies with deus ex machina gadgets, it is no wonder they got creative with all the possible ways to wrap, tie down, or otherwise restrain, incapacitate or handicap the main characters.
It's why when they try to that through a character's faults, even with a bit of mind control, it becomes like a mini character arc. Those were the most interesting episodes.
I loved this show because it had human to animal transformations, mind control, and good good stuff! It also had a wry sense of humour. My girlfriend and I found it a giggle, and basically harmless. There was no agenda here. I don't think it would fly today but eh it didn't do us any harm and the motives and behaviours in the show were always about good wholesome values such as saving the world, or wanting to turn everyone in the world into a clown. Nothing strange here honest! LOL
Honestly with they way internet journalism works, I can only see a 2020s Totally Spies work if it is full on adult show otherwise it would be cancelled
That laser lipstick mirror scene always baffles me. Not because of the wonky physics, but because of the fact they used the mirrors for seemingly no reason. Why not just use the laser on the door instead of bouncing it off two compact mirrors? It's like they needed a 5 second filler scene or something.
I think the logic they were rolling with was that the mirrors bouncing the laser back and forth would cause it to build in power until it's eventually enough to burn through the door. Either that or the idea was that the two mirrors would double the beam and, thus, double the power.
Totally Spies was my jam as a kid. I never noticed *anything* . Now that I’m seeing a bit of it again...yeah, it’s pretty weird. Fetish material? I don’t know, but the show is apparently ridiculous enough to garner the question.
@@G_Zus_PSN which is funny, cause we just gonna sit here and over look the fact that Johnny Bravo existed AND had a cross over with Scooby Doo. Plus, probably with other shows because crossover episodes were popular. I feel like that show had more obvious inuendos XD
Scary thing is I think this show existed before DeviantArt was made. The internet [outside of 4chan and Something Awful] was a *lot* more innocent back in those days...
Personally, I think a lot of it was circumstances. You have a show that's covering a subject that's popular among fetishists, came out in the early 2000s and was a Canadian-French production.(Both of which are not as high strung as America is when it comes to sex.) I don't think the showrunners were trying to push their fetishes on everyone, though I wouldn't be surprised if they snuck some things in.
There's no "PC virus," it's just that political correctness can be taken too far sometimes. America has always been prude about sexuality since its beginning. Europe is more open to it than America.@Red Coin
Corporations that run America don’t want sex shit in their shows unless they’re subliminally mind fucking you. America is Sex, but America is a corporation, that needs to please the general demographic, families and children.
we are not as prudish and puritanical as you Americans, (yes, I am French) anime have been broadcast in our country since the end of the 70s and the beginning of the 80s.
Totally Spies was my, my sister's, my brothers' and my Dad's show. We all loved it! (Maybe not my mom, but she's not into toons anyway). I decided to rewatch the series in 2015 and I loved every second. Sure, the plot was a bit monotonous, but the characters are appealing, the missions were fun and the overall attitude of the series was spunky! It was a good show and I'd watch it again in a heartbeat.
I used to wake up early every morning to watch this and it's spinoff show(which I totally can't remember the name of someone please help). So yeah it was one of my favorites as well
I’m gonna be honest man, I think the “bondage” accusation is kind of stupid when it’s a show about spies. I don’t think most people would claim the James Bond (hehe bond) franchise is secretly about bondage. Spies get captured a lot, it’s a way to make the story exciting
Hmm it never struck me as odd that they were tied up a lot. I just thought it made sense since they were spies. Getting captured is what happens when they mess up, and it's a classic moment in spy shows and a lot of spy films. The main character spy (or spies) gets captured and has to escape with their wits, often incorporating the use of their gadgets.
Edgar Garcia Wrong, how very wrong... I feel so disgusted by the fact that I never noticed these things before. The fact that many cartoons have gross fetishes in them is just proven with the thousands of pictures on site like rule 34, and HF... I wish I could go back and not watch these shows...
It always just remind me of James Bond, how he pretty much always gets captured only to get away. It was just part of the spy formula. Guess that is now a fetish...
Blue Hunter The thing is mate James Bond didn't have even close to the disgusting things this show had... Hell again more proof, there are 10 times more fetish pics of this show than James Bond...
Also, doesn't a lot of this come down to being able to fetishize literally everything? I'm sure TS "awakened" a lot of people to their fetishes but that doesn't mean it was intentionally trying to do that. You can most likely fetishize the entirety of the first run of Teen Titans. Or Thundercats as one giant furry fetish. The cast of Final Fantasy XV is even fetishized. I guarantee you any cartoon you know of even with weird art style has sexual art done of it.
Just want to note that the creators of LoliRock have cleared up the unfortunate implications with the name. It was meant to be a a reference to LOL(Laugh out Loud), they weren't aware of the word loli.
I mean I liked it without any thoughts of that. It was just a good show. I liked PowerPuff Girls too and though I wasn't a Bronie I enjoyed MLP Season 1 + 2. It doesn't have to be about the kink. I have a few kinks and I'm very sex positive so I'd say if the show had an effect on me. But I just enjoyed it as a cartoon.
@@Ralathar44 yeah, I get you there. I'm sure the majority of teenage audiences watching it didn't think anything of it. My brother is kind of... Off, to put it nicely, in a "loves to abuse people" way. So really my comment was a quick jab towards him and his grossness and not really towards the rest of the teenage boys who grew up with this. Sorry if I caused you any discomfort.
Personally I loved Totally Spies as a kid and even a teen, and I'm a guy! I didn't really think much of the show at the time, just that it was fun. Looking back at it, I don't think the show did any sort of awakening for me, it was just a fun cartoon to watch.
Kane Aquino If you think about it, thats how some people ending up liking the fetishes for furry, bondage, chubby... -And I am one of them. Fuck this show!-
Oh yeah I love it when 20ft tall muscular girls with an oversized head in men's clothing and a fake mustache rapidly gain weight and swap faces with a cat before I cover them in sand and watch them age as their life drains away.. but it wouldn't be complete without a nice sneeze 😍🙌 #goals
As a giantess, reverse-talking heads, moustache, weight gain, cat face, sneezing, sandy feet enthusiast I've gotta say. I'm thrilled to live in this timeline.
How to make Totally Spies? Step 1: Make a cartoon with good storytelling and great anime-style animation like Teen Titans (even though Teen Titans was released 2 years after) Step 2: Add your most horrible fetishes in the cartoon Step 3: Forget Step 2 and take Cocaine, Heroin and LSD, going to DeviantArt at the same time. TADAAAAAAA! It's *THAT* simple! You've created the WEIRDEST French-Canadian cartoon of all time!
@@TheYank2763 the show was wild as hell, I am remember reading somewhere that they came up with the whole concept and some plots of the episodes while being literally Drunk
I'll admit; despite watching a fair chunk of this show as a kid, stuff like this never clicked in my mind about it. Huh. Guess I really was that naïve then.
Riku006 without the internet it would be hard to know people got off to thus weird stuff like body inflation and weird shit like that. I think I knew about bondage but that's about it.
Riku006 I feel the same, I just watched the show and didn't really think of any of that stuff and didn't even know what that stuff was.. till the internet years later...
No you weren't naive. If the show was really fueled with fetishes, you would've noticed as a kid and it would've left a stain on you until you grow up and be affected by it. Saberspark is reaching wayyy too hard.
The bondage thing isn't *that* weird considering its happened to nearly every super hero at lest once per show, hell most Batman episodes opened with him bound up, but yeah there's a lot of fetish fuel in this, especially when you combine said bondage with excessive struggling and force feeding. 10:50 I was eating soup when that clip came up, I nearly spat it all over my computer laughing.
I’ve watched almost the entire Lolirock series with my sister just because, and it’s not really weird from what I can tell. Just a normal magical girls show that mimics Sailor Moon and the girl bands trend. The only really weird thing is the name. I’m actually really attached to one of the villains because he’s actually a really well written character. Then he died.
I never noticed it either. To be honest, I think this was the writers' way of slipping in adult humor and gags, like in a lot of children's cartoons. Children won't get it, but the adults will pick up on the more adult undertones.
Man I never noticed any of this when watching it as a kid. Tho then again listening to that list of fetishes I never knew half of those things were a thing... like mummies and being buried in sand??? The hell
To be fair obsessing over anything can turn into a fetish and everyone has obsessions its how they deal with it that matters though anything can turn into a obsession too.
Obviously depends on an individual, but if you are into mechanics of restriction, there's a chance that anything filing under some sort of "damsel in distress" scenario may get you going.
You will dispense the information *Now* Please. The near endless Schadenfreude I could experience if this is true would make life so much more bearable.
I guess I was a bit younger when I saw Totally Spies lol. I didn't see anything weird about it. A lot of cartoons are weird lol so it just went over my head.
I didn't and I still don't. I don't see any of these things as fetishes at all. I only found the clothes shrinking ray weird. Obviously people have these fetishes, but I don't think they added all those as fetishes.
@@user-gd7wr4cx4l yeah like the tying up/bondage is common in spy action movies to both men and women, it's a somewhat believable way to have the vilian think they'rre save while still enabling the hero to show up and win, the clothes shrinking ray is probably based on the stereotype that girls hate clothes that don't fit them right, yes back in the 90s early 2000s that was the stereotype not like today.
@@beachbomb first, it's called desperate, and second, everyone who watched something as a child and grew up to check it again, you would 100% notice stuff you didn't notice before as a kid because you were A KID, look how many examples of bondage of many types, and close up feet, i mean i saw a lot of feet in cartoon but this, there is alooooot of feet in my face, the show is good no one said anything about it, but i am 100% sure that at leas they had feet fetish and bondage
Half of the fetishes are so rare, like wtf is a big head fetish? You could analyze literally a cartoon that exists and could come up with this. Spongebob probably had everything he mentioned. Harry Potter is probably also a fetish movie, since a woman got enlarged, school uniform, cat girls, giant woman, gender swapping, covered in tentacle like plants and half-horse people. Really mate, touch some grass.
you are SOOOO right dude, that was exactly what i was saying. This show did give me some fetishes tho, but saying the show is "a fetish show" because it has situations almost every cartoon has is kinda stupid.
90% of the population are probably not even aware of 1/5 of the fetishes Saber listed. I feel like this is getting into the territory where viewers project their fetish onto a weird kid's show
I can imagine why it would be popular, since powerpuff girls was so popular on Cartoon Network, action shows with female leads might have started to gain some appeal.
@@2Potates Yeah but somehow I got embarrassed when my parents were around. Like as if I was seeing something that wasn't meant for me lol. I was like 12 at the time.
Yea, very very much broken physics, a reflected object, once the 2 reflecting beams of light stop reflecting, the light just doesn’t just act like a laser, unless some sort of light emitting small bulb is hidden inside the mirror, yea the laser is going to hit a wall and then disperse, AKA Laws of physics=Broken
The one episode of this series I remember the most is also the one I never finished watching. The girls were investigating a hair salon for redheads where patrons were disappearing en masse, the girls discover that the salon owners were illegally harvesting their patrons hair by artificially accelerating the growth rate of human hair until they were pseudo repunzels and cutting them with a giant pair of scissors. For what purpose or how it ended, I don’t know as I never got to finish the episode. I’ve been searching for the episode ever since but the name and episode number has been lost to me. If anyone knows this information, please do let me know.
I think all of the fetish material is unintentional and entirely a result of audience interpretation and there are several reasons I think this. 1) Literally anything can be a fetish. Anything. You could argue that Loony Tunes is full of fetish material with all the crossdressing Bugs does. You could argue that the third Harry Potter movie has fetish material because of Aunt Marge getting inflated. Look at any live-action show on Nickelodeon or Disney Channel from this same time period and you will find a ridiculous amount of crossdressing. People are really complex animals, so they can turn anything sexual. You also have to look at how many episodes this show has; six seasons of a television show requires a lot of material, so you’re going to see a lot of weird ideas enter the mix. 2) This is a kid’s show; the characters can’t be in any real, violent danger. They had to come up with silly scenarios for the characters to find themselves in. The characters being force-fed sandwiches in silly costumes is exactly the kind of situation I would have found funny as a kid, so the crazy scenarios also add comedy to the show. 3) Getting tied up is a trope of the spy genre, or, hell, even just the action genre. A ton of other people in this comment section have said it. James Bond gets tied up all the time, so I don’t understand how the girls from Totally Spies getting tied up is much different. I also couldn’t really tell how much of a joke the bit about LoliRock was. I definitely lean towards it being a joke, but I found your tone of voice a bit confusing. LoliRock is basically just a French magical girl show based around a band. Either way, very entertaining video; the part where you were defining fetish cracked me up!
Yep. Rule 34 - if it exists, there's porn, fetishes, ect. Of it. So somewhere in the universe, someone could be wanking off to grass growing. Heck, the aliens could be fapping to us.
It's the other way around - many fetishes come from innocent origins. Inflation, vore, kidnapping, tickling, slime, most of these were done as a common gag/joke in kid's shows back then. But kids who were watching these during their formative years end up developing "feelings" towards it which is how it's seen as a "fetish" nowadays as these kids grow up to a sexually mature adults. Therefore, everything that is seen as harmless now can eventually turn into fetishes in the future. Someone can eventually fap to snapchat filters or emojis in the future for all we know. The people who creates these things have no control over it.
>Humans are complex >They make everything sexual Uh huh. It's almost as if dogs don't like humping things and other animals will bang something that simply looks like their own species. Sex is so complicated that hormones don't disable the higher functions of your brain. Yeah. We're just amazingly deep creatures.
kyoyameganebereznoff You have a point; in ways it’s a lot like how Wonder Woman was constantly getting tied up by men in the older comics. The interpretation that it was a bondage comic was not what the comic was trying to do.
RadenWA : that's probably the best explanation in terms of pshychological development. Also explains why so many Disney fans are furries : tons of animals and anthros in their movies ^^. And then I wouldn't be surprised if some fetishists actually work at Disney or any other studio and put a bit of their fetish into their creations.
Giantess fetish, furry fetish, muscle fetish, expansion fetish, bondage fetish, and many others. Yeah I can see that. Also, how did they fix all the damage and not kill anybody when they became giant and were fighting?
I appreciate your mature explanation of fetishes and sexual preference in this video. These kinds of topics can be handled quite poorly. So yeah, thanks for exploring that.
It does take some restraint, because such a thing is like trying to make the toilet a scary appliance, it's difficult to be taken seriously. Well, except for those who wrap their whole identity in their fetish and try to pass it as a qualification to being an ethnic minority. They obviously take it a little more seriously.
Seeing this video unlocked some sort of **DEEPLY SEALED** memories about it and oh my god the way I could just recall what they would say, that the characters had some very weird tropes, that they were always bound by different things... This is a part of my childhood I kinda wish I didn't (accidentally) unlock oh my god
If I'm honest, I actually like the series, the creativity on the episodes were actually cool, the animation was well made and the characters can be really fun, so I'm not the kind of guy that likes fetishes

Agreed, wish more people had this mindset. Not to mention that looking for deep things in kids show is most of the time just asking for trouble and want something to go wrong when your not supposed to. Also, once the cartoon had an episode centered around bad luck(a rare concept but I seen 3 examples of it:kid vs Kat,this, power rangers operation overdrive) that's no fetish fuel, and fetishes sound like ugly znd perverted stuff, and sneaking it to the face of children is really weird and nasty. Also sometimes many episode concepts repeat in shows, like one had an episode with clones of a character that physically representing the personality traits of said person,an episode with an alternate world where the roles of the villains and heroes switched around along with their appearance and personality in some cases(like transformers shattered glass because there the autobots are evil and the deceptions good guys with jazz as a villainous Mr T. Grimlock is a suave and intelligent genious, starscream is extremely loyal and so fourth. Like the anti faries from fairly odd parents, where kozmo is an intelligent master schemer and Wanda is a drueling buck toothed moron. Poof and Foop, one of them is square, voiced by a man, perfectly spoken from the minute of birth and when he cries things go great. The other is round, voiced by a woman, the thing he always says from birth is he's own name, and when he cries bad things happening to everyone.)
Similar opinion here. It looks to me more like they were doing everything they could in the show because the show's universe allowed it. The main hook for me was actually the clothes and animation style. I'm a girl who was into drawing at the time, so seeing at least one new outfit on three anime-style characters in EVERY EPISODE was the coolest thing ever. =)
@@TentenchiAMVs same. This video is the first time I've realized other people see Totally Spies that way. But that's a fandom for ya...there's always 'those' kinds of fandoms.
Guy here, loved this show as a kid. It was just good normal fun to me I guess, never really noticed anything wrong with it, never really got any wEiRd vibes from it. Did have a crush on Clover, but that sort of stuff happens with every show though.
There's plenty of other shows/movies/books/ect with more than enough fetish fuel to go around. And even if there wasn't, people are gonna be people and people are really fucking strange and oddly specific when it comes to kinks.
I watched this show as a kid. I have NONE of these fetishes. Actually, quite dislike them as fetishes. I just liked the show for its stupid fun, and honestly? What spy HASN'T been tied up by the villain or tried to be turned into some biological weapon? James Bond had to deal with that on a nearly movie by movie basis! Also, never knew this was a Canadian made show. Probably explains a lot more then you think, considering the culture differences.
I watched this show as a kid. I have some of these fetishes with no other possible source of said fetishes being present. Also James Bond did not dress up as a girl.
Irongear Gaming becoming an animal isnt sexual unless you see it that way like if someone becomes an alien in a cartoon and someone just so happened to be attracted to that.... somehow that doesn't mean its sexual

I am just now feeling a bit weird about the implications of this show on my life right now, too, haha.
Even being a boy, I still saw the show more for it's characters facing dangerous hardships in their line of work.
I especially remember an episode where they faced people with long nails they use as claws, definitely what I call suspenseful and action packed.
Same actually
I sometimes watched this show because it was one of the only action shows with female MCs, but tbh I couldn't relate to the girls' obsession with clothes and shopping and thought the show was kind of shallow. I think the show would have been even more successful with it's target audience if they gave the girls different personalities and interests, kind of like the Powerpuff Girls.
On another note, I now have a bondage fetish, but that is at least in part due too another piece of media I consumed as a child.

Okey here is my honest experience with this show
I liked it because of the those gadgets that the girls were given like hairdryers that turn into guns and laser bracelets ect.. because those were everyday items that are laying arround in the house and therefore that i can get creative and use them when i'm playing arround with my sister and reenacting the episodes pretending to be spies
One thing that attracted me to it is the fact that they change thir outfits in every episode while every other cartoon used to make a single outfit for their character that get boring easely
Other then that i didn't get any weird vibes from it and i don't really have any kinks
The girls had bomb fashion sense
FAIR I AGREE WITH YA
True
And tbh I just loved a good girl empowerment show. They always got the job done, and they looked super cute doing it. It had romance (at least for a kid's show) and it had love-to-hate characters (Fucking mandy). I think it was just a good tv show lmao

If you can think of it, someone thinks it's hot.
I remember during the vampire craze a few years back I didn't get why the concept of a blood-sucking, 100 year old dead guy would be perceived as attractive...then I read "Interview with the Vampire" and saw how the biting scenes were written (lots of emphasis on close human contact and seductive whispering) and thought "yeah, this isn't doing it for me but I totally get why people (both in the book and in reality) are so down with it now."

however, I certainly I am not gonna deny it definitely had to of started some people down the path of fetish. There's probably some areas where sexual underlying jokes were put in on purpose, too.
Sarvina Valentine
considering this show is made and animeted by adults i wouldnt be quick to dismiss that too

Um, excuse me, what? 0_o That's the main plot of cartoons NOW. At least, the kids ones. Because when and where someone lack or lose humanity? As humans, everything one do and think is part of the human nature. I know a myriad of bad habits/traits that just makes us what we are. Also, what would define a human, so when the definition in that person is absent, we can say he or she is now inhuman?
I laughed so hard at that one.
Sure Totally Spies may be weird when we think about it, but it’s also one of the most memorable and popular animated shows in the 2000s. Not only airing in 150 countries, but it also set the trend for anime style animation for countries other than Japan. Shows often form a formula. In this case the basic formula for Totally Spies can be boiled down to this:
- Drama (with different outfits each episode to sell toys)
- The girls get surprised by one of Jerry's wacky traps
- Debriefing on the villain of the week
- Gadgets shown and foreshadowed (each sold separately at your local toy store)
- The girls sneak in enemy base using the gadgets
- The girls get caught
- One of the girls get mind controlled, transformed, etc. to showcase the villain's scheme in action
- Villain of the week explains evil plan to girls while they are bound and sent to death or something
- The girls use the gadgets to free themselves
- Confront and defeat villain of the week
- Drama concludes

Having the agents restrained is just a cheap plot device, a lazy way to make characters unable to interfere in the progression of the story and be put in a defenseless position; for a series with so many episodes about spies with deus ex machina gadgets, it is no wonder they got creative with all the possible ways to wrap, tie down, or otherwise restrain, incapacitate or handicap the main characters.
It's why when they try to that through a character's faults, even with a bit of mind control, it becomes like a mini character arc. Those were the most interesting episodes.
Bondage.
Ammuze ohhh interesting theory! I hadn't considered that!

That’s like accusing Perry the platypus for bondage fetish because he always gets captured by Duffenshmirts.
Edgar Garcia
Wrong, how very wrong...
Blue Hunter
The thing is mate James Bond didn't have even close to the disgusting things this show had... Hell again more proof, there are 10 times more fetish pics of this show than James Bond...
Not turning the spy into a catgirl
Also, doesn't a lot of this come down to being able to fetishize literally everything? I'm sure TS "awakened" a lot of people to their fetishes but that doesn't mean it was intentionally trying to do that. You can most likely fetishize the entirety of the first run of Teen Titans. Or Thundercats as one giant furry fetish. The cast of Final Fantasy XV is even fetishized. I guarantee you any cartoon you know of even with weird art style has sexual art done of it.
Anything can be a fetish, so really it's just a coincidence
teen titan def had unintetional fetish stuff in it.
It's all about perspective. Some people's are poluted with sexual stuff like this guy.
If you seriously think none of it was intentional and no one working on this show knew full well what they were doing, then wow.

As a giantess, reverse-talking heads, moustache, weight gain, cat face, sneezing, sandy feet enthusiast I've gotta say.

How to make Totally Spies?
Step 1: Make a cartoon with good storytelling and great anime-style animation like Teen Titans (even though Teen Titans was released 2 years after)
Step 2: Add your most horrible fetishes in the cartoon
Step 3: Forget Step 2 and take Cocaine, Heroin and LSD, going to DeviantArt at the same time.
TADAAAAAAA! It's *THAT* simple! You've created the WEIRDEST French-Canadian cartoon of all time!
The same could also apply to Panty and Stocking.... Jesus Christ that show was a train wreck

I feel the same way and I wasn't that young when I was watching the series...
Yeah samr
The bondage thing isn't *that* weird considering its happened to nearly every super hero at lest once per show, hell most Batman episodes opened with him bound up, but yeah there's a lot of fetish fuel in this, especially when you combine said bondage with excessive struggling and force feeding.
10:50 I was eating soup when that clip came up, I nearly spat it all over my computer laughing.
Batman for Fetish Fuel confirmed?
I’ve watched almost the entire Lolirock series with my sister just because, and it’s not really weird from what I can tell. Just a normal magical girls show that mimics Sailor Moon and the girl bands trend. The only really weird thing is the name. I’m actually really attached to one of the villains because he’s actually a really well written character.
Then he died.

Me and my little sister quite enjoyed the show.
Dean Natuno same here
I never noticed it either. To be honest, I think this was the writers' way of slipping in adult humor and gags, like in a lot of children's cartoons. Children won't get it, but the adults will pick up on the more adult undertones.
Dean Natuno yep he kinda ruined the innocent fun and I'll never look at teletoon shows ever again

that show was evil incarnate as a kid...it would rot your brain to even look at it
The thing that makes me think it's not on purpose is the fact that one person can't possibly have all these different fetishes.
Yeah a lot of these were ridiculous apart from thr catgirl bandages feets and shrinking clothese these were mostly gags

I watched it not too long ago and still didn't see it like that

dude youre in every comment section wtf
i saw you before i had to say why is your name rayquaza while your pp is a shiny giratina
Says Gandalf the Gay, but honestly jokes aside you're right.
you are SOOOO right dude, that was exactly what i was saying.
This show did give me some fetishes tho, but saying the show is "a fetish show" because it has situations almost every cartoon has is kinda stupid.
I don't know why some fetishes are more popular than others though
90% of the population are probably not even aware of 1/5 of the fetishes Saber listed. I feel like this is getting into the territory where viewers project their fetish onto a weird kid's show
This show was my childhood . Idk if there was something wrong with me back then
Same with me but different for me. I watched whatever interest me.
Fox Ella I liked this show but now I noting that i have my characters in my stories get captured and tied up I think it's becauses of this show.

I can imagine why it would be popular, since powerpuff girls was so popular on Cartoon Network, action shows with female leads might have started to gain some appeal.

Lol.
Evil Hair Salon S2 Ep.3
Well, did you find it? Were all your questions answered?
>Humans are complex
>They make everything sexual
Uh huh. It's almost as if dogs don't like humping things and other animals will bang something that simply looks like their own species. Sex is so complicated that hormones don't disable the higher functions of your brain.
Yeah. We're just amazingly deep creatures.
kyoyameganebereznoff
You have a point; in ways it’s a lot like how Wonder Woman was constantly getting tied up by men in the older comics.

And thanks for pointing that out because if you didn’t, people would probably not slow down and think about that and go all jam about something. 👌

It does take some restraint, because such a thing is like trying to make the toilet a scary appliance, it's difficult to be taken seriously. Well, except for those who wrap their whole identity in their fetish and try to pass it as a qualification to being an ethnic minority. They obviously take it a little more seriously.

@@1_railfan found the guy with a counting fetish
