This scene is the epitome of unexpected, clean and hilarious joke. Imagine your wife is boxing against a ruthless opponent and you suddenly start singing in the arena full of people out of nowhere.
Okay that was a pretty good animated fight scene! It's better than a lot of anime fight scenes I've seen. Few close up shots, few cuts, wide angle, no repeats, not flipping the footage to make it seem different. All in all that was almost realistically brutal.
This is actually a very well-crafted fight scene. The animation feels swift and smooth, yet cartoonish in Family Guy's unique art style; and the sounds give off a phenomenal sense of impact. The tension is shown through facial expressions and background details like the crowd and music; which is a rare writing trait for Family Guy, but handled very well here. Ultimately, though, the scene falls into Family Guy's worst trope which is using everything as comedic leverage rather than anything else, and that makes the cut-off of the joke predictable, and the end doesn't feel like it got the justice it deserved because the tension was thrown away for a gag.
What everyone says, this fight and family guy fights in general are incredible. My question is, why? Who does the choreography? Who plans and makes the fights?
