There's a train of thought that, even though it's a parody, you have to have a certain amount respect and love for the source material to make it a good parody. You can look at the Family Guy Star Wars parodies. Besides all the jokes and gimmicks they did in those episodes, you can definitely see an absolute love of the original Star Wars movies in them. And that's because the love for those movies is real, of course, but it also makes the jokes funnier when the time comes to bring them in.
