As someone who also saw this build being used by another player and started using it there is an error I'd like to point out. You said that your base spell critical chance is 15% for detonate dead. That is incorrect. The base is 0%. If you unspec your Sunder the Flesh node your increased crit chance on your tree and gear will multiply nothing. This is probably because you had a boost to get all your ascendancy points before your respec. I tested detonate dead before the respec with Sacrifice and it never crit regardless of how much increased crit chance I had. The skill info also showed no crit chance before getting Sunder the Flesh.
The base crit we get is 15% which is then doubled from all the crit nodes so its actually 33.5% total crit chance. Correct this is why I recommend to not get ascendancy points while doing the campaign and get a boost once you are at the end of act 3 so you have all the points in one go, I am pretty sure its a bug that needs to be fixed as it doesn't make sense why we cant crit without the nodes... Hoping this weeks patch fixes it and Gore Spike!
I wanted to try this build once i got to the endgame, but getting to 4 and 5 links in the skill gems is a bit expensive, is this still doable in the early endgame if i don't have one or two upgrades to the skills?
Yeah you can with Corpse Conservation - Spell Echo - Magnified Effect for clear and replace magnified Considered Casting on a boss this should be fine still.
Being playing DD now for 2 days, it feels pretty good. only problem for me are the random oneshots i get even on normal T15 maps with 2,5k HP and 3,4k ES
If you stay back and let your minions stay ahead you should be good, the main one shots I had was from poison snakes. Could maybe be the maps mods like crit and pen?
Heft right now is not working with phys spells - i tested it many times in different boss fights. Waiting for GGG to fix it. Elemental focus is good option with mana tempest.
I have been skeptical of it working, sometimes I get massive bursts and other times it seems like a dead gem, this could be from multiple crits idk... I think because we have a flat amount and not a "range" it does not apply?
Thanks! Yeah blood mage is the best to scale our crit high enough to have consistent critical hits sadly. Im hoping they rework it a little. Chronomancer can work but then you would have to scale with elemental damage/ignite/bleed somehow to make up for not having the crit.
i think you can run Spell Cascade while mapping if you don't have cast speed, but i recommend getting cast speed instead because the cascaded spells deal less damage and you run the risk of deleting your own minions too fast on bosses
Since Detonate Dead is a fixed value of a % of the life of the corpse being exploded, I was told by multiple sources that +Physical Damage skills, passives, and gems don't do anything to the damage being done. I was told the only way to increase the damage done by the DD is to Do Archmage to add an additional % of electrical and Madness in the Bones and the two Physical as Extra Chaos Damage passives. If you are seeing more damage from Brutality, Heft, Minion Pact, ect then I was misinformed.
This is PoE 2, and it’s different from PoE. Proof is that increased spell damage also effects its damage, you can swap on threaded light focus, you’ll notice the DD absolutely gets the increased spell damage as well. A swap to that focus massively increases the damage. I tested Brutality, if you’re not going Archmage, you’ll notice the damage increase using it.
easy to test just by using soul offering imo. im doing a pure phys build and im definitely seeing more dmg. if ur logic is right then using something like spell cascade which has less damage wouldnt affect it too. but it simply just affects it. when you change the support gems to have a bunch of less damage. it definitely tanks the dmg. so yea more damage works on it. i dont know about heft tho
DD still has a delay, getting cast speed on jewels is a waste imo. I’ve tested with 40% - 60% -80%. You’re better off going 15% minion life and increased global physical or bleed chance
Lol I've resorted to DD just because I can get away with it at a low gem level @_@ I do not know of any other spells that I can comfortably play on Blood Mage because of the HP cost of everything while maintaining full overheal.
Nope it was shared by an anonymous Korean user i found over 3 weeks ago on reddit, I just took my time to not post asap as festive season was busy. The res makes it more comfortable for juiced mapping as the brutes did tend to die from rare on death effects.

Yes. I've tested it out thoroughly with a practice boss. Heft doesn't work.
the crit from the ascendency is applied. its just an ui bug, which doesent show it in the gem menu.

How can I put the Detonate Dead skill in 2 slots?
And both skills should be at level 7, right?
Both should be level 7 yes and the two different slots is for bossing and mapping, AOE is mapping ofc.
is there anything that lets it chain? like one corpse blows up and if it touches another they explode too?

You were misinformed, well partially. +skills does nothing for DD, this is true. Increased global physical absolutely increases the damage of DD.

Yeah there is a delay, cast speed helps improve the animation of the cast.
