I pick one of these up recently for my nephew as a step into the Mac operating system, i popped in an SSD and added some Ram and it works a treat. For the age there is nothing windows based that old that could offer the same performance.
Upgrading is actually pretty easy because any MacBook and MacBook Pro pre-2012 can be opened up from the bottom and have its HDD, Ram and Battery taken out and replaced or upgraded. Likely the best one could do for this MacBook would be putting in 8gbs or ram, which it surprisingly supports, and a regular non proprietary SSD
I have the 2010 model with the 320M GPU. And yeah, throw some extra RAM and a simple SATA SSD in there, this thing *still* flies. Pull one out in a Starbucks around central London and watch the Hipsters turn green with "retro-er than thou" envy ;)

You could switch the motherboard out for the 2010 model, with a slightly faster cpu and a gpu that’s twice as powerful, but that’s really it. The only interesting upgrade is replacing the disk drive with a second hard drive or ssd.

an SSD doesn't make the CPU and GPU any faster so game performance would still be same. not to mention it would be bottlenecked because these computers only support SATA 2.
Man I use GeForce Now on my 2019 Macbook Pro 13inch with my PS4 controller and it runs freaking incredible. It took 3 weeks to get the access code but ever since, gaming on my MBP has been absolutely amazing. As long as you have a good internet connection lol

Your macbook does not have an inferior processor to that quoted in this video. The entire fricken internals are different. And will pretty surely outs this Macbook for similar workload.
Because Apple: Money reaping > Quality. Although the lower clock speeds (who thought having 1-2GHz was a good idea?) Are a huge hit, the newer architectures make up for it, but granted a PC for half the price or less could still easily destroy it, especially since a lot if not most modern Mac's only have Intel graphics.
Though that may be true, Trackpads aren't that good in general, at least compared to decent mice. backlit keyboards don't always matter, even as pretty as they are. Besides, there are nice backlit, sometimes RGB mechanical keyboards for sub $50, so even if you did throw one in it would probably still cost less than a Mac. Thunderbolt port, eh, not sure how much it matters, and by just spending a bit more you can get a nice SSD for your OS (Windows, Linux, or even macOS). Granted there won't be enough SSD space to store that many files on it, Macs don't have that much storage, as opposed to even a budget PC where you can easily get a 1TB HDD on the cheap. And no, opening your personal files in the blink of an eye isn't that important. Overall, that nice feeling experience one can achieve with a Mac, doesn't matter if they have bad framerates of process times. I see where you're coming from though.

I bought this exact same model as a gift for my girlfriend and a DYI project for myself back in July, because I knew that by bumping the RAM to its max. supported (Apple says it's 4GB when in reality it's 8GB) and swapping the old HDD for a blazing fast SSD, it makes a LOT of difference.
I have a macbook aluminum unibody late 2008 with the same specs but I played lots of game using bootcamp running windows 7 including GTA 4, Deadpool, TMNT: Out of the Shadows, CS:GO, Call of Duty (2003), Call of Duty 2 (2005), Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (2007), Call of Duty: World at War (2008), Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009), Assassin's Creed 1, The Walking Dead: Season II, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, Left 4 Dead, Call of Juarez: Gunslinger, Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood; etc.... It can run on medium & low settings.. XD
That's the main reason I bought a MacBook, it's long life. They're expensive obviously but it'll work well for 5+ years so I'd be getting my moneys worth. Only thing that'd probably need replacing would be the battery

Koen Woo I can tell you that it won't perform that well, Half-Life 2 on my mid 2009 MacBook Pro which is pretty much the exact same just with a slightly faster CPU gets around 40 FPS at most at a resolution of 1440 by 900 with a mixture of low to medium settings, although I do have high detail textures.
I'm using this same MacBook: downloaded the latest drivers. I've played cod4 MW, cod mw2, GTA SA, assassin's Creed 1, chaos theory, fifa 14 (mod to 2023), mortal Kombat komplete edition, far cry 2, and many others. If I swap an hdd for ssd and upgrade to 8gb ram, I can play some 2014-2017 games trust me. This machine is very powerful
I had this MacBook for a while and I only upgraded a couple of months ago. it was a great laptop. It ran the latest software very smoothly and it got the job done. I got it for £200 and it was great for a first Mac. I now use a 2011 MacBook Pro with 8GB RAM and an i7, which I got for £500, despite the age, I love it.
l have the black version of that macbook. it looks super sick oh hang on a minute, l have never seen this macbook before, the white/black macbook l am used has a more boxy look to it while the one you're looking at has a more curved look to it.

I use a Late 2008 Aluminum Macbook 1TB SSD for XP era gaming as well as gaming on Snow Leopard with trim Enabler for the SSD due to being Rosetta so I can run Power PC games most games past XP just don't work. I have the Same GPU.
I've been using the GeForce Now beta for Mac for a couple of months and it works great. I have the 2009 Macbook and 2011 27" imac and I use it on both without issue. All on a 75 Mbps internet connection. Highly recommend!
I own that MacBook (mine is the late 2009 version). It starts with 2gb of RAM (quite poor). 2 years ago I upgraded to 8 GB of RAM, and last year I put in a 500gb crucial ssd. Even if it supports sata II (the ssd is not at its best, Sata III) the PC feels new again, really impressive. And with the latest update of the MacOS (HIGH SIERRA) and the bootcamp partition (windows 7) you have everything that you need. Awesome!!! Please, let's make a part 2 video!!!!!
I use my 2010 white MacBook daily. It’s no power house but it works incredibly well as a laptop. Way better than most “affordable” laptops out in 2017. I upgraded the ram to 8gb and it boots off an SSD. I also replaced the optical drive with a caddy and put in a 7200rpm 640gb drive. That was about 4years ago and it’s still going strong. I’d be very sad if it died.

You need at least 10 Mbps for 720p30 and 30 Mbps for 1080p30 or 720p60.
50 Mbps is recommended for 1080p60.

Koen Woo I can tell you that it won't perform that well, Half-Life 2 on my mid 2009 MacBook Pro which is pretty much the exact same just with a slightly faster CPU gets around 40 FPS at most at a resolution of 1440 by 900 with a mixture of low to medium settings, although I do have high detail textures.

I'm using this same MacBook: downloaded the latest drivers. I've played cod4 MW, cod mw2, GTA SA, assassin's Creed 1, chaos theory, fifa 14 (mod to 2023), mortal Kombat komplete edition, far cry 2, and many others. If I swap an hdd for ssd and upgrade to 8gb ram, I can play some 2014-2017 games trust me. This machine is very powerful
I had this MacBook for a while and I only upgraded a couple of months ago. it was a great laptop. It ran the latest software very smoothly and it got the job done. I got it for £200 and it was great for a first Mac. I now use a 2011 MacBook Pro with 8GB RAM and an i7, which I got for £500, despite the age, I love it.

oh hang on a minute, l have never seen this macbook before, the white/black macbook l am used has a more boxy look to it while the one you're looking at has a more curved look to it.
Yeah I got confused until I bought one. The one in the video is a “late” 2009 macbook. Mine is an “mid”. The body design was themed design and earlier.

I use a Late 2008 Aluminum Macbook 1TB SSD for XP era gaming as well as gaming on Snow Leopard with trim Enabler for the SSD due to being Rosetta so I can run Power PC games most games past XP just don't work. I have the Same GPU.

OMG this was literally my first computer back in 2010, and I used to play TF2 and GMOD a lot on it. It ran them surprisingly well!
I have the 2010 version of this MacBook and with an SSD and 8 GB RAM, it can even run GTA IV (on Windows though). It's an awesome device.
I've been using the GeForce Now beta for Mac for a couple of months and it works great. I have the 2009 Macbook and 2011 27" imac and I use it on both without issue. All on a 75 Mbps internet connection. Highly recommend!
our school district had these laptops, upgraded to chromebooks, and now we have iPads (new models), Chromebooks, and Macbook Pros.

I own that MacBook (mine is the late 2009 version). It starts with 2gb of RAM (quite poor).
2 years ago I upgraded to 8 GB of RAM, and last year I put in a 500gb crucial ssd. Even if it supports sata II (the ssd is not at its best, Sata III) the PC feels new again, really impressive.
And with the latest update of the MacOS (HIGH SIERRA) and the bootcamp partition (windows 7) you have everything that you need.

I've always wanted to own White Macbook from 2009. Not for gaming purposes, but for souvenir purpose.
I use my 2010 white MacBook daily. It’s no power house but it works incredibly well as a laptop. Way better than most “affordable” laptops out in 2017. I upgraded the ram to 8gb and it boots off an SSD. I also replaced the optical drive with a caddy and put in a 7200rpm 640gb drive. That was about 4years ago and it’s still going strong. I’d be very sad if it died.
