Like in EXO's songs, although technically speaking, these two have different strengths (Chen and low register for instance), they can still nail about every line slightly in a similar way. I guess that could be because back during EXO-M/K days, they always had the same lines since the group was separated.
It was such an interesting thing to hear. I'm not a professional vocalist, but to me, the tone of their voice is REALLY different. I mean Baekhyun has a more smokey voice, Chen's more whiny (not in a wrong way, but it is).

Ok there's a lot of misunderstanding in these comments. The reason Chen and Baekhyun are still going strong even after all these years is because their technique has improved IMMENSELY since this performance. They're not "superhuman" they've just learned to sing better lol so the reactors aren't wrong at all for saying they wouldn't be able to continue for long like THIS. A performance of this song with the way they are now would put 2014 baekchen to shame.
And that's exactly why I love their voices. I've only recently started coming to look at SM artists (specifically EXO, I already knew I liked the voices of the members of SHINee and SNSD), but knowing that their technique became better, they progressed through the years, etc... That to me is more superhuman than the idea that they are inherently amazing.
If you watch recent performances, Chen's voice has actually gotten stronger and more stable. He sounds so much better these days and doesn't strain as much.

for me i like chen's voice more, i mean baek sounds so beautiful too but i think i prefer chen's voice, he has an angelic voice (btw suho and xiumin are my favorite voices in exo so far, their voices are so beautiful and unique especially xiumin! and im not talking about their techniques, it's just how their voices naturally sound, but definitely chen and baek has better techniques than them!) actually all exo members sound so good even chanyeol, his deep voice is one of my favorite so it's really hard to pick only one tbh...
deep blue LOL, same. Uniqueness of Xiumin voice is everything for me. His tone is amazing. I love D.O tho too :) It's the same for me in BTS. The marvelously unique voice of Jimin takes my heart over better technique that JK and V have.
I actually came back here because Chen improved a lot and now that I compare this with how they'd be reviewed now, Chen now has better technique than this. Baekhyun and D.O improved too actually. 👏👏👏👏
This performance was in 2013 and I can confidently say that they have grown soooooooo much vocally. It's been 4 years and wow they have improved so much. One performance that really shows their vocals is their cover of "As I Live". But honestly they can sing and dance 100 times better than in 2013. I'm so proud
Chen is a former classical/opera singer. That's why Chen got more higher but both of them is so good even Baekhyun. You should react to El Dorado and many of their live songs.
Well in this song, they both actually hit the same 'highest' chest note which was B4, but Chen did sing more of the high notes. The last B4 "yeah" was Baekhyun.
Imma be honest and say although I'm not an EXO-L especially to me, Baekhyun and Chen's voice is so perfect. IDK how to explain it especially to me Chen. He's so incredibly good. If his voice was a person I'd marry it

If you guys want to look at it this way, I remember there was this EXO'S weekly idol episode during Wolf era when they did a high note battle and it was determined that D.O was the one with the 'lowest' high note range(? Sorry I dunno much abt vocal related stuff) followed by BaekHyun - Chen - XiuMin so between all of them Xiu was the one who can reach the 'highest' note but I'm not sure now since that episode was like more than 4-5 years ago and I'm not an expert in music but I'm just a fan. Sorry if I got wrong tho
Great reaction! Interesting to hear their analysis. It's funny they mentioned the training they should get because Chen and Baekhyun are two members in exo that got the least amount of training time. Both of them debuted after just 1 year with the company.
The three main vocals of EXO truly have amazing voices. In my opinion, Chen has the best vocals. He has an impressive vocal range. In most parts of his vocal range, he sings strongly. I like Baekhyun singing unbelievable high notes, Chen singing an incredibly strong melody, and DO (the other EXO main vocal) singing an impressive adlib. ❤️
Akiko Ackerman I totally agree, Chen has this certain quality to his singing that puts him slightly above the others. I'd also like to add that I feel like D.O.'s strength is doing ablibs because he does them so smoothly and effortlessly.
Now thinking about it thoroughly, I agree that DO's adlibs are more suitable for him than singing a strong melody. It's great to hear that someone agrees with my opinion of EXO's main vocals😊
In my opinion, Baekhyun's vocal techniques are slightly better than Kyungsoo's. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Kyungsoo's vocals but I prefer Baek's. Chen tops all though XD. It's one of the main reasons why Chen is my bias wrecker. It's his amazing voice (and the fact that he's a troll😂). Baekhyun is also my bias (along with Luhan because OT12 for life and I can't choose just one bias😅). Satansoo is so adorable I can't help but fangirl over how squishy he is😍. I truly love EXO's Main Vocals❤️

It's amazing how these classical singers assume that these two Kpop singers have had no classical training. Accessing your diaphragm/having control/releasing tension is a given if a tenor wants to hit a B with vibrato. It would be one thing if it were shouty, but the high notes were more often than not resonant, which is why the vibrato was flowing freely. Another thing is that veins in your neck doesn't necessarily equate to strained singing and that technique is bad. The higher you go, tension will get heavier, but the fact that the note was so resonant showed that the singer managed that tension well. It wasn't perfect, but not to the point where he would have to retrain "classically." One thing that these two Kpop singers have done to reach these high notes is to have an adequate application of mixed voice, and what they have showed here is not perfect, but definitely not flawed to the point that the commentators suggested. I myself have been through classical training and have trained proficiency in my mixed, and your comments sounded a little forced and lacking in understanding of the voice. If you guys think hitting a B full voice is hard, you should really learn a little more about mixed.
Move__ I think you're being a bit too hard on them. They're still in college, still learning. Some of them even still a freshmen. They're not expert yet. You should've not expect their evaluation to be a hundred percent on point.
I see. I didn't know that they were this young. I apologize for the harshness. I reacted in this way because they the two male singers in the video seemed very confident in their assertion that the Korean singers had bad technique, which may misinform the viewers of this video.
But Chen and Baekhyun also only had 3 months to train before their debut, and this was 2 years after their debut so their technique might have not been 100% what they are now. I know absolutely nothing about technique or vocal training stuff but just something to keep in mind ;-;
Training periods may vary but it's intensity is what changes their improvement. For what I know baekhyun and Chen had vocal training prior to entering SM entertainment as trainees (some people also have a ability to learn how to sing! I have a friend that never had singing lessons but is consistent with the basics of singing), what didn't happen to Suho that had 7 years of training and isn't quite as good as them. Some people comment how trainees have very different schedules of training, how Johnny (from NCT, until like 2014) and Yeri (from Red Velvet) weren't "full-time" trainees. So basically you may have had 3 months of training but knowing yourself and your instrument versus someone who don't know a thing and has a very sparse/different training schedule. Chen, Baekhyun & D.O all had very vocal-based training schedules, while Suho might had not! Or just had more trouble on his singing. Similar case happened to Sulgi/Wendy. Seulgi trained for 7 years and Wendy for much less, but the later had a much better understanding/ease with her instrument while Seulgi admited herself that she almost gave up because she felt like she was stuck on her skills. Anyways! Just know that people are different and also training schedules are also different for every idol.

Lena it a bit old but still one of their best... Vocaly it one of im2 best performances too , they showcased a good support, good dynamic ...they did improve Chen have A2 , Baekhyun can produce head voice with a bit more consistency . he's also more comfortable in his mix his G4 - A4 improuved
Not the best. The A2 here isn't that good, he has done better A2s. Onew also has a strong developed lower register, and Kyuhyun too. Chen here started pulling his larynx on B4s. I wouldn't list this has his best performance even tho the A4s were resonant here.

It's actually 11. 4months when they got in + 7months before their official debut. They trained a total of 11 months. Both have mentioned it. And both have had lessons way before debut that's why they they sounded really good and that's why they got in during the auditons. Like others they went through series of auditions. These two were the last piece that completed EXO.

Just giving my 2023 opinion here, they did this in 2013, means they were actually trained as singers for only like a year, they barely debuted, they were rookies. Baekhyun and Jongdae still both work hard on vocal lessons and improving even 10 years later. They haven’t exhausted their voices, they’ve improved and improved and only gotten better. And they’re still together, going strong, still amazing, both of them.
I suggest that if they want to hear Baekhyun's voice in solo, listen to Take You Home and Beautiful. As for Chen, you have to listen to his solo releases in order: 1. Best Luck (It's Okay It's Love OST) 2. Although I Love You (SBS Gayo Daejun 2015) 3. Drunken Truth (King of Masked Singer perf) 4. Stained (King of Masked Singer perf) 5. Goodbye (Missing 9 OST) it would be actually nice if there was a single video dedicated to Chen so that they could see his vocal improvement! But anyways, thanks for the reaction 💞

She is really great soprano, with support and resonance up to C6 (or maybe more) and support down to G#3, you won't regret it, soooo worttthh to watch, you can react to Arirang Alone, Everyone, Bridge Over Troubled Water, or her King of Mask Singer performances. I've never heard any soprano like her, her first passagio is E5 which is very high, it's not about the high singing but het technique is not joke
To me, Baekhyun has a very warm and humble voice. With Chen, I'd expect him to be in a rock band because he has a very intense voice; I love both of their voices so much, Exo is one of my favorite groups.
This was the song performance that made me a KPOP fan! And became EXO's fan. I was crying like crazy while im watching the whole video. Like damn, it's not normal and it's rare for me, a performance could ever make me cry. I love Baek but i love Chen more. Baek has that sexiness and raspiness in his voice that really really sounds good. Chen, on the other hand is very soulful. His timbre, OMG! And when he hits gigh notes, it's clean and his builting is just awesome! The combination of their voices is just right that i cried a river. This is beautiful!

I'd also be thrilled if you could possibly react to BESTie's Uji and f(x)'s Luna. Not many people know about Uji, but she's an impressive vocalist. Perhaps her cover of 'Road' on Girl Spirit? Luna's an amazing vocalist as well. She's the only pop singer from a family of classical musicians (her father is a conductor, mother and sister are vocalists, and her brother is a composer), and claims she's the weakest singer in her family, which is unbelievable. She's performed with her twin sister before on Immortal Songs 2, but there are many more incredible performances she's done.

Ok there's a lot of misunderstanding in these comments. The reason Chen and Baekhyun are still going strong even after all these years is because their technique has improved IMMENSELY since this performance. They're not "superhuman" they've just learned to sing better lol so the reactors aren't wrong at all for saying they wouldn't be able to continue for long like THIS. A performance of this song with the way they are now would put 2014 baekchen to shame.

If you guys want to look at it this way, I remember there was this EXO'S weekly idol episode during Wolf era when they did a high note battle and it was determined that D.O was the one with the 'lowest' high note range(? Sorry I dunno much abt vocal related stuff) followed by BaekHyun - Chen - XiuMin so between all of them Xiu was the one who can reach the 'highest' note but I'm not sure now since that episode was like more than 4-5 years ago and I'm not an expert in music but I'm just a fan. Sorry if I got wrong tho

The three main vocals of EXO truly have amazing voices. In my opinion, Chen has the best vocals. He has an impressive vocal range. In most parts of his vocal range, he sings strongly. I like Baekhyun singing unbelievable high notes, Chen singing an incredibly strong melody, and DO (the other EXO main vocal) singing an impressive adlib. ❤️

In my opinion, Baekhyun's vocal techniques are slightly better than Kyungsoo's. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Kyungsoo's vocals but I prefer Baek's. Chen tops all though XD. It's one of the main reasons why Chen is my bias wrecker. It's his amazing voice (and the fact that he's a troll😂). Baekhyun is also my bias (along with Luhan because OT12 for life and I can't choose just one bias😅). Satansoo is so adorable I can't help but fangirl over how squishy he is😍. Here, this will explain it more on why D.O is slightly better than Baekyhun. These are vocal analyses, and they have analyzed both singers.
It's amazing how these classical singers assume that these two Kpop singers have had no classical training. Accessing your diaphragm/having control/releasing tension is a given if a tenor wants to hit a B with vibrato. It would be one thing if it were shouty, but the high notes were more often than not resonant, which is why the vibrato was flowing freely. Another thing is that veins in your neck doesn't necessarily equate to strained singing and that technique is bad. The higher you go, tension will get heavier, but the fact that the note was so resonant showed that the singer managed that tension well. It wasn't perfect, but not to the point where he would have to retrain "classically."
One thing that these two Kpop singers have done to reach these high notes is to have an adequate application of mixed voice, and what they have showed here is not perfect, but definitely not flawed to the point that the commentators suggested. I myself have been through classical training and have trained proficiency in my mixed, and your comments sounded a little forced and lacking in understanding of the voice. If you guys think hitting a B full voice is hard, you should really learn a little more about mixed.
Move__ I think you're being a bit too hard on them. They're still in college, still learning. Some of them even still a freshmen. They're not expert yet. You should've not expect their evaluation to be a hundred percent on point.
I see. I didn't know that they were this young. I apologize for the harshness. I reacted in this way because they the two male singers in the video seemed very confident in their assertion that the Korean singers had bad technique, which may misinform the viewers of this video.
But Chen and Baekhyun also only had 3 months to train before their debut, and this was 2 years after their debut so their technique might have not been 100% what they are now. I know absolutely nothing about technique or vocal training stuff but just something to keep in mind ;-;
Training periods may vary but it's intensity is what changes their improvement. For what I know baekhyun and Chen had vocal training prior to entering SM entertainment as trainees (some people also have a ability to learn how to sing! I have a friend that never had singing lessons but is consistent with the basics of singing), what didn't happen to Suho that had 7 years of training and isn't quite as good as them. Some people comment how trainees have very different schedules of training, how Johnny (from NCT, until like 2014) and Yeri (from Red Velvet) weren't "full-time" trainees. So basically you may have had 3 months of training but knowing yourself and your instrument versus someone who don't know a thing and has a very sparse/different training schedule. Chen, Baekhyun & D.O all had very vocal-based training schedules, while Suho might had not! Or just had more trouble on his singing.
Similar case happened to Sulgi/Wendy. Seulgi trained for 7 years and Wendy for much less, but the later had a much better understanding/ease with her instrument while Seulgi admited herself that she almost gave up because she felt like she was stuck on her skills.
Anyways! Just know that people are different and also training schedules are also different for every idol.

You need to remember that this 2 only trained for 4 months at most before they officially debut.
It's actually 11. 4months when they got in + 7months before their official debut. They trained a total of 11 months. Both have mentioned it. And both have had lessons way before debut that's why they they sounded really good and that's why they got in during the auditons. Like others they went through series of auditions. These two were the last piece that completed EXO.

Just giving my 2023 opinion here, they did this in 2013, means they were actually trained as singers for only like a year, they barely debuted, they were rookies. Baekhyun and Jongdae still both work hard on vocal lessons and improving even 10 years later. They haven’t exhausted their voices, they’ve improved and improved and only gotten better. And they’re still together, going strong, still amazing, both of them.
I suggest that if they want to hear Baekhyun's voice in solo, listen to Take You Home and Beautiful. As for Chen, you have to listen to his solo releases in order:
1. Best Luck (It's Okay It's Love OST)
2. Although I Love You (SBS Gayo Daejun 2015)
3. Drunken Truth (King of Masked Singer perf)

This was the song performance that made me a KPOP fan! And became EXO's fan. I was crying like crazy while im watching the whole video. Like damn, it's not normal and it's rare for me, a performance could ever make me cry. I love Baek but i love Chen more. Baek has that sexiness and raspiness in his voice that really really sounds good. Chen, on the other hand is very soulful. His timbre, OMG! And when he hits gigh notes, it's clean and his builting is just awesome! The combination of their voices is just right that i cried a river. This is beautiful!

Luna's an amazing vocalist as well.
