Lou Holtz deserves zero respect. Dude knew about soooooo much abuse over his career and said nothing. He also disrespected every school he ever had a job with, except Notre Dame.
Rally Sons of Notre Dame!!! Best College Football game I have seen in past 30 years. Had it all from pregame brawl in tunnel to 2 point attempt at end. Epic and Memorable!
People who give Lou Holtz shit for his ESPN commentary don't know how ridiculously great a coach he was. He was about as clutch a CFB coach as there was. He wrote the book on mental preparation. He knew how to consistently get his players ready to run through a brick wall.
The dude was a POS that covered up sooooo much abuse and crime, just in order to remain a coach. Plus, he lied and disrespected every school he ever worked with before getting to Notre Dame. The guy will be burning in Hell when he passes! Seriously, he knew about what was happening with his best buddy Paterno up at Penn State and remained silent.
i like how lou holtz handled it. You love this game because it feels bigger than the players. like two forces who fundamentally don't like eachother. People might not understand because they don't understand the U and the fact that idealistically these schools are the perfect opponents for one another. ND vs Mich/USC/Ohio St. is like pretentious country club "a great afternoon for football" type football. This game is like no holds barred. At least thats how it feels to me.
When a pep talk from 1988 can bring a guy to emotions over 30 years later. You know it’s powerful. Lou one of the great big game coaches in history. NC State, Arkansas, ND and even taking 1999 0-11 South Carolina, and beating Ohio State in back to back New Years Day Bowls in 2000 and 2001.
He also remained silent the entire time about the abuse at Penn State where his best buddy coached. Dude covered up soooo much crime and abuse just for his own job. He was a lousy person too! Every job before Notre Dame he’d make promises, sign contracts, and in the middle of the night move away. Guy was a coward, through and through.
One of the greatest marketing ploys in college football history. The other one was the hate for Brian Bozworth and all the shirts and other stuff made about him, AND IT WAS BOZWORTH HIMSELF THAT WAS BEHIND IT ALL THAT COPYRIGHTED/TRADEMARKED EVERYTHING AND HE MADE ALL THE MONEY HIMSELF.
Just the best. Lifelong ND fan (75 years) who was there on the 20 yard line, ND side, near South end zone. Best game I have ever been to. Irish National Champs again.
Irish fan since 1968. Love'em. Win or lose, love'em. When these players talk, after the fact, about they were so confident they were going to win, nobody should take that seriously. At the end of that game, if Jimmy Johnson had opted to kick an extra point instead of going for two, and if that kick had been successful, this game would have ended in a tie. Miami would have remained in first place in the polls and would have gone on to win their second consecutive national championship. It's easy to say after the game is over that we just knew we were going to win. But the Irish got very, VERY lucky on this one. The infamous "fumble" at the one yard line? Nobody thinks that Miami player fumbled that ball. You can't even find a Notre Dame fan who'll look you in the eye and claim that was a real fumble. That along with Johnson's 2-pt conversion attempt is what beat Miami....not Notre Dame.
ND won the LOS on both sides of the ball. Loved seeing Notre Dame knock Miami off the ball running the football. The U didn't like it when someone ran it down their throat.
If Miami would have won this game like they were supposed to Miami would have won three straight national championships Miami was a true power house at the time & Jimmy Johnson was a master motivater & a great coach
Yeah and they blew one that screwed ND. I can’t Remember the player for Miami, but he caught a pass for a TD and dropped it, but it still was a TD? Watch this 30 for 30 all the way through and you’ll see it
Reminds me of my friend Volume Schizophrenic, who used to scour the parking lot of the 24 hour pool hall I used to hang out at, looking for marijuana cigarettes roaches to smoke... “Lights out... Game over”...
Not a particular fan of either team. Not a particular fan of Coach Holtz for that matter, more for his broadcasting career. Do think he was a great coach though. Anyway, I know if my coach would have told my team when I played what Coach Holtz told the Irish before that game, we would have gone out and tried to run through an oncoming 18-wheeler on the interstate for him. I get misty thinkin about it. Great stuff.
Gotta admit, I loved seeing Miami thump Notre Dame for those few years. Notre Dame had beat up on teams for decades and they got a taste of their own medicine.
Dam so he got kicked off the basketball team and returned all the money? I would have kept the money and transfered if I knew I was getting kicked off the basketball team. Did he at least get to stay in school at Notre Dame?
I'm a ND fan and I never felt that way in any way, shape, or form. The ND team that year? With the talent they had and led by Lou Holtz? NOBODY would have "killed" that team. Nobody.
@@conorcane1211 I am aware who ended that streak, i was at the game, you are impressed with teams that end long winning streaks, ND snapped the longest in hoops and on the gridiron, here endeth the lesson
I don't know why but when Pat Eilers started talking about Lou Holtz saying, "...save Jimmy Johnon's ass for me." I started tearing up.
watching stoic people show emotion always has that effect. felt the same way.
4th string tb scored that day he didn't win like Saban does but he set the bar high they were there for 5 or 6 years with a chance to win the NC
