"CBS Saturday Morning" co-hosts Jeff Glor, Michelle Miller and Dana Jacobson deliver two hours of original reporting and breaking news, as well as profiles of leading figures in culture and the arts. Watch "CBS Saturday Morning" at 7 a.m. ET on CBS and 8 a.m. ET on the CBS News app.

Cafe du Monde….nothing like it and I am a NYC native --but nothing compares …. the best of the best.. beignets…and the coffee is terrific, too ! Do not miss a visit to Cafe du Monde in New Orleans! Was down there volunteering in the Lower Ninth after Katrina an unforgettable experience. Will be back!

Popeye's when there fresh out the air frying grease had carried awesome beignets a couple years ago. They brought the Flounder Fish Fry sandwich back and I'm hoping they bring back these "winners" I adore their beignets since we don't have Cafe Du Mondê here. SAFEWAY 🛒🧾 stores does now carry the Chicary🪵 🎺 Cafe du Monde Coffee these recent day's. I'm going to pick 1 up

Locals don't really go to Cafe du Monde. It's a tourist place.

I think it depends on if you really like beignets or not. The one in the FQ is always so crowded but if you're a local that genuinely likes beignets then Cafe Du Monde is where it is at.

I disagree! Locals go! But locals know that you actually don't have to wait in line. Just walk in and grab a table!

uhmmm I disagree with you Chalmers, I am a local and I go there and all the other locations in Metairie and Kenner... I also like morning Call, I used to go to the one by Lakeside mall. New Orleans is home of so many extraordinary places... for instance Hansen's snoblitz it is a must to try... I mean there are plenty in NOLA to go around.. it all depend what you like but I will not dare to say that locals don't go there. Matter fact it is locals who have to go there when visitors come and they want to try this place.

I got addicted to the coffee when I visited NOLA a few years ago. I visited Cafe du Monde 2x on my short trip. I can’t wait to go back some day!

I’m sure that you can find the
coffee at a specialty grocery store. The trick is to heat the milk to boiling and pour equal amounts. Add real sugar and voila. That’s as close as we can get because there is a secret ingredient.

Truly nothing like it, a NOLA tradition. Had one of my favorite morning memories ever sitting on the patio there enjoying warm sun, cool breeze, hot coffee, and sweet beignet. 💕

Pro Tip: The French Market location is the only location one should visit for beignets and chicory au lait. Avoid all the other locations including at the airport.

Bake in the early 1990's I was in New Orleans. I had been to CdM a few yrs before. The wait was so long that I went to a place across the square that sold beignets as well. No wait, and I thought that they were just as good.

There were two French types who immigrated to Louisiana -- the French from France, and the French from Canada. The beignets are of Parisienne (France) French origin. It's not a Cajun food. A lot of people don't know the difference, so I thought I'd explain. In New Orleans, you have French restaurants, and you also have Cajun restaurants --two completely different ways of cooking, but both spectacular.

As a New Orleans native, that is something I miss since moving away. I have had others trying to recreate it at different restaurants, but it's not the same. Same as King Cake.

I have been lucky enough to visit four times (I am from Indiana). I love the tradition. Warm beignets and a cafe au lait. Nothing better. I explain it to friends - you wait in line for a table, sit as it comes available, and the server cleans the table and takes your order all in one breath. A true New Orleans experience!

The literal translation of it's name is "Coffee of the World" since originally cafe is the French word for coffee. When I was a kid my dad would say "we're going to the World's coffee" as a shortened translation. But, we equally love Morning Call, which used to be just a couple of hundred feet away on Decatur St. next to the French Market.

I don't think that's powdered sugar. It piles and moves like a mixture of powdered sugar and fillers. If it was pure powdered sugar they wouldn't put so much on them.
