These 2018 are great for casual use, considering what you get for the price in PC territory is warranted screen and speakers quality. For serious work not really anymore. But great for the price!
My general take on this is, no, but having in mind before the use case and also for how long do I want to go with a model of this type, true today it’s kind of a decent one but maybe it won’t be long lasting one with new OS updates comes performance degradation and considering that recent Air models (M powered) are affordable with a not very far price tag. I own the model from 2020 and I experience the same kind of questions these days !
I have a 2020 MacBook Pro 14inch intel chip. It is struggling to run without the high fan speed, it gets so warmed up. Regular streaming of videos has also taken a hit due to refresh rate limitations. I’ve noticed all these things post the software updates I’ve been doing. This has forced me to purchase m4 pro version recently.
It's nice to see that it's still alive. 2016-2019 are basically the worst MacBooks apple ever made. They're still on a permanent keyboard recall and class action lawsuits. If their worst lasted 7 years without giving you problems it makes me feel good about my M4 Pro I just got last week. with the discount and the money I got from my iPad I ended up paying $1,150 US for my brand new Pro.
Whats crazy is that these macbook pros are basically worthless in terms of trade-in. I'm not reaching, I literally have the same laptop, a pro from 2018. $50 trade in value. It was great for time, but if your looking to by an older macbook you are taking a freaking chance. Most these macs are on the verge of ruining. It's like buying a old BMW, great looking car luxury brand. While whole lot of sh*t going on internally. Don't do it!!!!
Worst MacBook Pro ever. I bought mine for £1300 I think at the time. It’s had 2 battery replacements (both under warranty) and 2 keyboard replacements due to stuck keys, along with a repair on the screen for a crack due to a pen nib getting stuck between the screen and keyboard, and I’ve just noticed that there is another crack on the bottom of the screen, again in the same area between keyboard and screen. The build quality is clearly atrocious, the fan is constantly on, even just running chrome, I have to use a keyboard cover so the keys don’t get stuck again and it’s just generally rubbish! I’d be hard pressed to replace my laptop with another apple one, window alternatives are the much better option and with OneDrive the apple ecosystem is a bit useless anyway, aside from the airdrop feature I suppose. Frustrating!
Great Video

Thanks for sharing your experience! Out of curiosity, do you recall which software updates you noticed these issues with?
