I bought a 14" MBP with nano texture but ended up returning it for a normal screen after 10 days. It is nice but I found I preferred using my older M2 MBP screen as the nano texture just took that extra bit of contrast away in a way I personally didn't like and text didn't look as sharp with more of a fuzziness/graininess to it in IDEs as you mention with the rainbow effect. Don't get me wrong it is a good option for some and for a day or two I kinda liked it but after a week of using both my new and old machines comparing the two I realised the normal screen is more than good enough unless you're using it literally outside with the sun shining directly on the screen which I never am so I was just paying €170 more for something I didn't actually enjoy as much as the normal screen. It is of course personal preference at the end of the day, some will love it and some, like myself, won't find any value from it. I am a developer so spend almost all my time looking at text be it code or documentation. With some video watching on it too of course. I highly recommend anyone thinking of ordering one with nano texture to use it in person first if possible.
No, I don’t think it’s necessary. I thought it was cool at first, but it’s actually gotten really muddy to look at and I regret spending the extra money
You have to clean it with a special cloth like the one included in package. For extra stubborn spots an alcohol based cleaner with Apple recommended ratios should be used.
I've owned a 16-inch Macbook Pro M1 with the normal display since it was released. Last week I also bought a 14-inch Macbook Pro M4 Pro with the Nano Texture display and I'm absolutely thrilled. No matter what angle I look at the display from, there are no reflections. It's matte and extremely high quality. In a direct comparison, the display only has advantages and no significant losses. I hope other products like the iPhone will get this option in the future.
Hi Josh, this comment isn't relative towards your video, rather aimed at your website. I'm an SEO specialist and web developer. One small thing with your website that might help user experience would to have your "Buy Now" links set to open in a new tab. I think this would greatly help users, especially on mobile who are wanting to open multiple links to compare prices across your site. It also keeps your websites bounce rate down, improving your SEO slightly. Thank you for your content as always!
I would also mention that the google guidelines suggest having user optionality in choosing where to buy from (not just a single buy button), and having preset price range filters in addition to the custom price range input ya'll already have is recced. Ahrefs did a video on this using RunRepeat as their case study, as those guys really beefed up their traffic in a short period of time using those and other practices (all covered in Ahref's video).
After using the nanotexture screen for a few weeks, I can confidently say it was the right choice for me: I can use the laptop all around the house without being bothered by glare. My previous intel MBP was only useable on my desk or living room table. With the nanotexture display I can finally use it on the couch again! With 5 years between the models, the decreased contrast doesn’t bother me, I find the screen better in every way. If you’re coming from an earlier Apple Silicon model you might have a different opinion :)
A matte display protector could be better, but it will do the job. The nano display is only necessary if you are outdoors a lot. It really is a boost,, as you do not need asmuchh brightnes,s, and the screen is more readable.
Hey Josh, sorry for asking this on another video, but I noticed some of the laptops on your deals page are listed as unavailable when I click through. Are these deals truly out of stock, or should we expect them to come back? It would be great if the listings were updated to reflect the current availability. Thanks!
Hey Josh, I hope you see my comment. I just recently bought a 16" MacBook Pro and when I plugged it with the charger, I feel a slight tingling shock ( not shock, just a little vibration) when I rub the surface of it. Is it normal ? ( I researched on internet and it says it because of the 2 pin charger as it has no ground connection )
Hi, This is basically the case with all laptops with metal casing. I've had three different laptops over the years (including a MacBook pro 2017) and have felt those "tremors" - and yes, it's basically whenever you plug into sockets with weak/no grounding or use 2 pronged plugs that don't have a ground pin. Hope this helps.
Hey Josh, will you guys be covering CES this Jan? I'm very interested in hearing your opinion on the Zenbook Duo 2025 / any other dual screens announced this upcoming year. Much love from Melb ❤
What’s the difference between matte screen and nano texture. I have asus tuf a 14 ryzen 9 hx 370 with matte display. It also cancels reflections and it’s free. Let’s imagine someone who really hates reflections on laptop. In that scenario which devices should that person pick. Matte display windows laptop or macbook pro with nano-texture.
Yo josh I need a laptop for programming and gaming Can't choose between the Lenovo yoga pro 9i, Lenovo yoga slim 7i aura, Asus ZenBook s16, Asus proart (prob not cuz it's 60 Hz) Could u rank them and add any other one if appropriate
All TH-cam experts say get the nano but all dumb comments say stick to glossy. I tested it myself and found nano is much better for your eyes, watching content and making content.
There is no right or wrong on this matter, just a preference so stop calling people dumb. I hate matte displays, I'm in the minority, and it's just me. For other people, only your eyes can say, go and see by yourself.
i'm a software engineer. im considering either a M4 24GB 1TB for £1790 M4 Pro 12c 24GB 1TB for £2040 M4 Pro 14c 24GB 1TB for £2140 do you guys think it's worth the price to get the most expensive M4 Pro? both the M4 and the M4 Pro 14core are from Costco UK whereas the 12c is from Apple with Education discount
I’m also a software engineer, and since we’re doing this 8h/day, honestly I’d pick the best CPU I can afford 🔥 had the m1 max so far, but the m4 pro has almost 2x the cpu performance, so I’m upgrading to that. Ideally also to 48gb memory 😄
Increasing brightness to combat reflection is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. Who cares about eyesight? I’ll just increase the brightness instead of tilting my display!
I've yet to watch the video but just so you know, it scratches EXTREMELY easy, as easy as plastic (see Jerryrig video on the latest ipad pro) So I'd avoid buying that
Yet another TH-camr who isn’t showing an actual comparison between the nano-texture and glossy. How about some close-up comparisons of images and text? Compare the contrast and black levels of each under different conditions. Pixel peep so we can see the true differences other than providing only vague anecdotes.
We tried that, btw. But we found our cameras didn't pick up the level of detail you are asking for. Certainly not at 8 bit color, which TH-cam uses, and with their compression levels. What we are doing though is investing in an updated Spyder X tool to improve our display measurements for more advanced displays. Hope that helps
It was obvious from the beginning that matte is better than glossy (whatever stupid terms Apple invented). I am old enough to know that business laptops were always matte, what we were calling "multimedia" laptops for content consumption were glossy. Apple was glossy and sucked for years till now. Not better except at decreasing sharpness black levels contrast clarity and glare for extra cost. I say different rather than better. When reflections are not bad glossy win every time

Samsungs anti reflective coating is the future

Very helpful. I'll bring this up with the team

You should display the same image on all screens to compare !!!
I still value display quality, colour vibrancy and pixel sharpness over glare diffusion.
I feel like the actual solution here is to just buy a matte screen protector for like 10 bucks instead of Apple’s insane $150 upgrade
exactly!

Come on, folks are buying a macbook for thousands of dollars 150 is small part in comparison for a nice upgrade
You’ll have blooming like there’s no tomorrow, if you want to ruin your display go ahead with that 10$ and diminish your screen
@@Thz_manThat's exactly how Apple wants you to think. Congrats, you fell right into their trap
Great video as usual, thanks Josh!
ON THE TOILET!!?? 😭😂
I prefer the vibrant display of the non nano texture display
Would definitely buy and stick to nano texture. Just wish skus with nano texture were available from stores like BestBuy, Costco, etc.

Hi, could you let me know which you are clicking that are like this? Please email support@justjosh.biz
what about how deep the blacks are? I've seen in videos the blacks on the nonreflective screen are way more gray cause of the softening effect
Finally some real and useful information on that matter. Thanks.
I have it on my M4 Pro MBP and I wouldn't go back
I can confirm

@@vizualyse Very interesting, I thought I just imagined this. xD Thanks for clearing that up and it's not a problem I guess then?
@@vizualyse Thanks brother for the information. Will it harm my MacBook ?

So you are telling us that Apple has finally invented matte coating again?
they did it 15 years ago what do you mean?
It’s way less image degrading than a regular matte coating
yeah, it isn't a coating, its actually etched into the glass at a nanoscopic (hence the name) scale instead.
Exactly the same experience, matte is also better for your eye health
People hype this "whatever stupid name Apple came up like they invent it" matte coating like it's 30 bucks instead of 150 😂😂😂
omg… I’m sold on nano
Very good explanation, I bought MacBook 16 with nano and for me is worth
They actually boosted artificial reflections in Sequoia so people will upgrade to nano texture ☝️🤓

Sir did u sign a deal with chatgpt or what cause i got recommendation of your video in my solution
Wow that's super cool
Great video, you're the most sensible TH-camr I've come across in years!
sigh... I literally just placed an order for nano textured MacBook an hour ago..
So refreshing you didn't milk the video to 20 min 🤣 whenever you guys publish a video I watch them because you don't waste time!
So the trick is to not use a MacBook pro with non nano texture display
On the toilet😮😊❤!
Not worth here. The sun is always hiding behind those thick clouds and is dark just after I get up.
I think the money would be better spent on a memory upgrade.

This reminds me of the Nanotexture iMac back in 2020. When you could just buy a $30 screen attachment, Apple was charging $500 for that thing!

Correction: not as weak as plastic but just slightly stronger... Still way weaker than normal glass
Hi Josh, can you fiddle with your audio settings please? Your breathing in inhalation is rather distracting.

Grainy and hard to focus and read
Did not buy it. Use my MacBook mostly inside or in the shade.
That ugly notch isn't worth a penny
Simple answer, no. I returned mine because white colors look really bad, grainy screen. I would pay more to get the glossy screen to be honest.
It was obvious from the beginning that matte is better than glossy (whatever stupid terms Apple invented). I am old enough to know that business laptops were always matte, what we were calling "multimedia" laptops for content consumption were glossy. Apple was glossy and sucked for years till now.
