    I think it’s natural to want to know what’s inside these crypts and tombs, etc. I love the fact you peek inside them 😂 it’s a morbid curiosity but also I just like to see all the old coffins and statues etc, fascinating to know they’ve been untouched since the 1800s.
    Edit: made my comment and then you said exactly what I said about it being fascinating 😂

    I don’t think it’s disrespectful at all to look into the crypts. I think most people have a curiosity to see how people were placed and how the crypts were decorated. I myself loved the statues. No one would see them if you didn’t look. I love when people look into the crypts. Never know what you might see! Great video and beautiful graveyard.

    • @whimsygrove9971
      @whimsygrove9971 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yeah I don't think they'd have the holes in the doors if they didn't want people to look in. Obviously people are curious and are going to look...if the family's didn't want to look, they'd cover the holes.

    • @elizabethkujawinski3240

    • @Meladjusted
      @Meladjusted ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@whimsygrove9971 I don't have a problem with people looking in them, but that's not the reason there are holes in the crypts, lol.
      Crypts are typically made for entire families to be placed in (you can see shelves on the sides in some of them for placing multiple coffins), therefore they have doors on them for future easy access. Because they will be opened repeatedly in the future, they have holes for ventilation. If there was no ventilation, decomposition fluid would not be able to evaporate while gases could build up and cause problems with pressure.
      If they wanted it to be a display setting, I doubt they'd put only tiny holes you can barely see through. That being said, again, I still don't have a problem with it. I only think it'd be weird with newer burials where the person's loved ones are still around.

    Why is there such an issue about looking into the crypts? It is not disrespectful to do so imo. Many of these graves haven't had a family member visit for years. The craftsmanship one can see inside these tombs is amazing and should be shown more often. Back during a time when the families were very involved in death processes. Before morticians became a thing the families took care of it all including the making of the coffin. The deceased would be displayed in the parlor room of their house for at least 3 days sometimes longer depending on how far away family was.
    The whole postmortem photography phase was happening back then because picture taking was expensive and it was most likely the only picture of the person the family would get. I truly feel we need to back to some of these customs and traditions to help future generations to value human life again. 🤔

    18:30 - Depictions of lambs are used on children's graves. Apparently because lambs denote innocence and youth, along with the obvious religious connotation.
    Kinda a random bit of info (given it has nothing to do with Irish burial culture or anything-as far as I know, anyway), but it was very common in the US for the depiction of a lamb lying on its stomach to be carved onto the top of children's gravestones from the 19th to the earlier 20th centuries. Very common sight in old graveyards here.

    But....
    What a wonderful cemetery...a special atmosphere....so many impressive tombstones....and behind each one is a life story...people...families...destinies...hopes....someday people standed there , said goodbye to loved ones, cried, thought...
    Somehow I can't stop thinking about this cemetery right now... Whatever it is....
    (I almost got a heart attack from the shock of the white statue in the crypt 😅)
    If there was something like that here, I think I would live there and wander around... during the day (😬) 😂

    I found the bricked up ones depressing. I've told my family that what ever they do to me I want a plaque somewhere so someone like me can one day find me in a graveyard and wonder what I was like. Graveyards are lovely places to reflect and remember so we are not totally forgotten, when were gone. I love the comment about being excited in heaven because a name was spoken. I'll be doing that more often in future :)

    The steps leading to the underground vaults reminds me of the scene in "Bride of Frankenstein" where Dr. Praetorius meets the Monster. Peering into those vaults, you literally see the dust and cobwebs of the Ages. Looks like the inner gates of those vaults are quite ornate, based on the small amount seen though those holes. Imagine going to the expense of ornate inner gates that'll only be seen each time the vault was opened for another burial.

    There's a church near me called saint Peters and one of the vaults there is 1028 years old.

    I wonder what happened to that grave that was destroyed at 17:19?

    I forgot: 30 - an inner radius, 72 - external radius (35A, 35B) and a couple of central radii for 11-12 vaults.

    Some very old vaults. The statue above the vault of the Rocca family looks like Padre Pio the Saint with the stigmata (the wounds in his hands like Jesus). He was a capuchin monk. Very beautiful walk thanks Martha

    I have heard it said that we will all die twice. There is the day you draw your last breath and your heart stops ... then there is the day when someone says your name for the last time ever.
    That is when you are really dead.

    I like reading the very old headstones, alot of the dearly departed have probably participated in a few wars in thier heyday, may these souls rest in peace in heaven 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏. How odd, tombs without a name ??? 11:00 minutes, hard to visit and remember loved ones without a proper name marker? Aren't there any caretakers at these cemeteries you visit?

    That's it, I understood (I'm watching your videos again with my mother), there are only 100 vaults: in the first radius 30, in the second - 70. Forgive me for pulling you with silly questions.🤩🤗

    Is it me, or did anyone else hear at around 16:46 when he says “oh wow look at that” a faint whisper saying “yes”.
