      You can also buy little rubber bottomed cups that are made to go under furniture that fit chair wheels pretty much perfectly and allow no slip if you’re chair is on a hard surface.
      Then the only movement you get is the flex of the chair, and you won’t ruin the soles of your shoes.

      Im an FPV pilot myself and I would say its not 100% true.
      For the initial contact its okay. Learning the basics and all that kinda stuff. Yes. Some muscle memory as well. Since you need to react to different appearances.
      Like throttle down while doing a flip and something.
      Sure the simulator is off the reality, but you are not flying (or driving) the same either all the time.
      So it will be different between models as well. Not really something to complain about.
      The problem with simulator starts between mediocre and experienced drivers, as rob is.
      When you want to focus on one thing and and do it over and over again, without switching to something else.
      Then. 100% agreed. A bad sim, is worser than no sim, as you start to trains bad habits "in-depth". So getting rid of them, will be a hell of a nightmare.

    As someone who drives around in Assetto Corsa VR for fun, this was a pleasantly unexpected video to see from Rob Dahm.
    Also this was slightly mentioned in the video already, but definitely go for a direct drive wheel if you can.
    Direct Drive wheels are the best that you can get because of how instant the force-feedback is. Some wheelbases (mostly in the 10nm+ range) can produce as much torque as the steering in a real car, but even more importantly they can also convey the fine grainy details of the road through the wheel like a real car would.
    Thrustmaster has a DD wheelbase, but you can also get them from Moza, Fanatec, Simagic, Simicube, Cammus and probably a bunch of other companies I'm forgetting.

      With the money he has at his disposal he needs to invest in a Qubic rig. If hes being serious about racing, and He clearly IS. The investment is well worth it. Force feedback wheel is one thing, but actually feeling the rear end kick sideways, or feeling it loose traction gradually rather then reacting to it visually from on screen cues... Game changer. Feeling the on and off camber of the roadways.. Massive.

    • @amazin7006

      @@crisnmaryfam7344 Motion rigs are way overrated, and many of them can even make you a WORSE driver due to their overtuning which is why most racing teams don't even use them. The price to benefit ratio is terrible. It's better to just stick to the basics, which would be a cheap linear >10nmn direct drive, front and rear bass shaker, simagic brake system, and a stiff aluminum rig. All together it would be under 1500$, compared to a motion rig which alone is over $3000 for the cheapest types.

      @amazin706 you are correct sir. Got the DoF 3axis, for rally... worth every penny. For open wheel, gt and touring on pavement... it's not a valid price to performance expense. A transducer on the other hand should be in every rig. Feeling the engine, shifts and road textures enhances the experience to the point your rig feels broken without them once you get a taste.

    Hey Rob, It actually might be beneficial to get a wheel that has enough torque to realistically simulate what a real car will feel like. I used the lower end of wheels (gear/belt driven) for many years and finally had the opportunity to get a direct drive wheel - albeit, only a Moza R5 (5.5nm of torque)
    Having force feedback is one thing, but to actually have to essentially "fight back" with the wheel is a game changer. With the lower end, I never felt like I could really do what I wanted to in fear of the small motor being damaged or plastic not being able to take the force. Aside from the general performance benefits of a direct drive, they also have alot more capabilites in terms of configuration that can make it feel that much better - things like the way the steering rack feels, or the natural inertia that a car has and feeling that as you try to turn
    None-the-less, great work out there!!! Keep it up :)

    the VR headset brightness issue you mentioned could be from HDR. the headset you have doesn't support HDR, so when you switch to VR go into your windows settings and turn it off. I'd just leave the settings bar open all the time so you can switch it quickly. Tip for improving your driving: drive slower cars because when you drive faster ones you tend to rely more on power, but in slower cars you are forced to have the best lines, brake in the perfect time and use more technique rather than just pressing the throttle. Actually, about that, racing people with faster cars does the same effect and it's really fun.

    • @toddbrown4185
      @toddbrown4185 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      For improving on a regular race circuit I agree, but in this case I think he’s better off (after learning the full road) to use more similar hp cars to the rx7 for learning breaking zones and just the speed difference. A flat out corner in a low hp car might be a half throttle/coasting corner in a high hp car

    • @_RobertS
      @_RobertS 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I would say it depends on the skill level of the driver. At the very beginning it's best to learn how to drive slow cars fast. But as your skill level goes up, eventually you will plateau and not go much faster. The car sets the limit at that point, not the driver. So from there, if you switch to faster cars, you will start to improve your skills again. And then finally, by going back to the slower car after driving fast ones, you will be able to drive it faster than you did before. So, at some point I believe you should practice in something that's FASTER than what you are actually going to race. So that your own limit has a chance to be higher than, or at least on par with, the limit of the car.

I think there was a spring upgrade kit included in the package and after installing it, it was "better" but there is just no way to make braking even remotely realistic with a system that is based on pedal position, rather than force. I then ordered a load cell amplifier and a cheapo 35kg (IIRC) load cell. Never got an actual rig for it and therefore it's been mostly sitting. I do about 21-23hrs a week (not the most not the least) sim racing before bed, after work then gym then self time building shit in garage, then family time, then racing, then bed.
    what I've learned that helps a ton when I visit these tracks in real life after practicing on the sim is: turning off all the hud info so there's no floating informations for you to rely on, change the zoom and viewing angles so you have better perception of your sides and view of dash board for rpms and fuel, and if youre running with a Co Driver it would be good to have practice with them watching the screen and calling the turns while you're in vr.
    but most of all at least just turn off all the floating info. You'll feel the difference in the sim

    Yeah i recommend you get the Quest 3 if you want to do driving sims more. Better resolution per eye, newer processor(less studders) and it sits a little closer to your eyes so it kind of increases your field of view a little. I use a quest 2 myself(broke boy) but have tried the Quest 3 and really wish i could afford it right now.

      Yep, alongside a motion platform V3. Or build your own motion simulator. It’s not too bad, a 3d printer really helps. Research the systems F1 drivers use as well.

      Plus, you’ll always crash more on sims so just remember that. In real life, your survival instincts take over and do most of the work. You can feel the car begin to loose grip and will unconsciously let off/adjust. No pressure.
      Edit: and learn your racing lines, man!

    the biggest issue with sims is it feels like THE INSTANT your car loses traction, its just gone and unrecoverable, and steering angle doesnt affect it quite right except in select ones

    • @festa289
      @festa289 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This sounds to me like a setup / settings issue. Check your FOV and in-game seating position is correct. When correct, you can feel the pivot of the car on the front axle, and have more awareness and feel where the rear is. When these settings are off tho, the car can feel super snappy and uncontrollable. High aero, high grip race cars however, can snap oversteer the instant they lose traction. Check those settings

    Hi Rob, I'm going to give some different suggestions that may help. First watch a Doco on a TT Class bike racer Guy Martin and his attempt on pikes peak with a turbo charged motor bike. What he did was outstanding. The other thing is watch your AFR's as you climb 6 K feet to 14 K feet. Also a lot of Australian race drivers use the Pagnian Advanced Simulators, which have real time pedal and seat feedback. Hope you do well.
    Cheers Roger.

    I would suggest getting a vr headset because playing that far from the screen and having such a small screen is just not great, bigger screen or vr would be perfect to have a more real sensation on whats being like to drive pikes peak, also a good modder could make you a more accurate car suspension wise and with the wings in the correct spot for downforce to simulate your car better, than using a random car mod, i'm pretty sure it's not super hard to do and would make it much more like the real car, but most important is to learn the circuit which any car works for
    Also CSP extended physics do improve tyre behaviour a lot so you probably will feel that the tyres aren't as dry feeling and you won't spin out so easly

    One thing I lurnd doing swisty mountain roads is let the out side of the corner guide you in because on a on caber corner your elevation will be hier than your apex and will give you a couple more feet to read the up coming corner. It also sets you up for spins on turn ins .also slow it down and practice what you lurnd at the driving schools you got this buddy.

    What a crazy video, you're having like 1 for 1 the same exact experience I'm having with my laptop, I even have the same wheel and pedals, and have driven Pikes Peak in BeamNG, which is the main sim I play on. It really is wild seeing you having pretty much the same laptop experience though, having something like that which can so effortlessly run games, screen recording, and 3D modeling software like they do is amazing, I have a Lenovo Legion Pro 7 that has AMD's best CPU, and the 4090 as well.
    Having that same wheel though worries me, my T248 broke and yours will too, that thing's drivetrain is extremely hard on the motor bearings, and once those go, they offer no replacement parts for the T248. You'll probably get 600 to 700 ish hours out of it, then that's it, that should be plenty of time, but mine broke in several different ways before the drivetrain failed so I just hope yours doesn't have the same issues. I broke mounting points, buttons, and eventually the drivetrain. The drivetrain of that wheel also makes it super slow compared to pretty much anything else, but you're doing grip driving, not rallying or drifting, so it'll manage, but that wheel ain't great is my point, it really started to get frustrating dealing with its slowness before the drivetrain finally started skipping and eventually killed the motor.

    Get yourself a SFX PC case, 4070 GPU, Intel i9/AMD AM5 whichever floats your boat, a decent motherboard, 1000 watt power supply (I use Corsair power supplies). Point being, gaming laptops are a consumable item, by the time you are ready for an upgrade there won't be any parts left, or it will be incompatible. So instead of selling off the laptop to fund a portable cased PC you would be able to upgrade any part you wish. With your knowledge I don't see why you have not built your own yet. It's all plug and play these days.
