You cannot get a plumber any where by the sounds of it. I know its a struggle where we live too. Great vlog as usual ! You both clearly have a lot of patience and humour. 😊 its good to reflect and also look at how much you have both achieved, which is soo much.
This was really interesting and relaxed. You could also do a video together discussing 7 things you are glad / pleased about doing. Focus on the positive . You are doing an amazing job !!!
You both complement each other so perfectly.....so it's no wonder the renovation looks as amazing as it does. Hindsight is a beautiful thing, I know with my own renovation I would do things differently too!! Have a wonderful weekend xx
No! We agreed that it was too ambitious. We only have weekends to work on the house and the run up to Christmas is Mark's busiest time at work. It's our top priority in the new year.
Totally relate to this in so many ways .We are in middle of a building project and currently working on electrical and lighting with electrician which is giving me sleepless nights . It’s such a steep learning curve in so many ways . You have achieved so much . Thank you for sharing what you’ve learned . You guys are an inspiration .
Yes the two shipping containers & shed have been a blessing for keeping site tidy and keeping materials dry. They also set up a covered awning area for cleaning up and cutting old bricks which is a messy wet weather job
It was so interesting and informative to hear what you have done to the property.Dealing with all the essential issues.I think people will find this helpful.Bravo to both of you😊😊😊
So interesting! I do think getting decent trades is the main issue. I have had so many issues with them. Still fixing their disastrous mistakes! And the good ones are impossible to book as so busy. And well done on making it through what is an incredibly stressful time as a team - when you have very different approaches it can be very trying.
It is so challenging to find decent reliable trades. Like you said, it's actually getting hold of the good ones. I am quite glad we're doing the majority of it ourselves - we can rely on ourselves 😊
JUST COME ACROSS YOUR CHANNEL AND DELIGHTED WITH YOUR HONESTY AND RECOMENDATIONS FOR ARCHITECT AND PLUMBER. I AM ABOUT TO EMBARK ON RENOVATING THE RAILWAY COTTAGE I AM LIVING IN.I HAVE GREAT VISION ET BUT DEVOID OF PRACTICAL SKILLS. LOT TO THINK ABOUT. SO MANY THANKS.I AM ELY AREA SO NOT FAR FROM NORFOLK
I can’t believe you have lived 8 years with terrible cold from the floors which is 7 1/2 years longer than I would. Even now I would go buy whatever I could afford to put down and get that project over. Use the bricks in the garden.
I am so glad you mentioned the plumber situation! After moving to N Norfolk in January we were in desperate need of a plumber. We have the same tale as you - didn’t turn up, wouldn’t quote, quoted then disappeared! I thought it was personal 🙈. I watched this wonderful vlog twice, second time with my husband so we could chat about it 😆 (deep and meaningful conversations about gorgeous Norfolk pamments - we have them in our kitchen). It felt like such a treat to watch you both chat for 30 lovely minutes. More please, keep ‘em coming 🙏🏻
@@elegantlyknackeredstyle after about a month of living here our upstairs bathroom pipes were discovered to be leaking but it was too late - the ceiling came down that very night. We were devastated. That’s when we realised there are very few plumbers in N Norfolk 😆. Luckily our house doesn’t need much work, we are babies compared to you - 1949 built. We are just taking our time to make it ours. No, my husband was quite happy to watch, who doesn’t love a bit of renovation talk? 😆
I think learning French goes without saying. It would be awful to be in France without being able to speak the language. Thankfully we already have basic French skilly (Mark more than me because he used to go on antique buying trips in France).
Ohhhhh yes buy a Chateau lol
We have talked about it so often over the years. When we bought Starre Corner, a move to France was in the cards too.
@@elegantlyknackeredstyle I was looking to move to France with my kids then covid hit but maybe its time to revisit it
It's a big decision but it is always worth exploring.

Thank you. It's easy to forget how far we've come.
It's always a good idea evaluating the project. Such a fast learning curve isnt it? I think you're making a lovely home ❤
it just makes me want to take on another project (and keep on Starre Corner of course). I'd like to put my learnings I to practice.
This was really interesting and relaxed.

That's a great idea! I think there would be more than 7 things which we know we've done right.
Marks skills are equal to any builder and you get a unique home . You would miss North norfolk if you went for a chateau lol
To be honest, we have talked about moving to France for so long but I don't feel I have a chateau in me. Mark on the other hand would love it.

Hindsight is definitely a wonderful thing. I have been talking to Mark this morning about 'when we take on another project'.
Did you get a shower

8 years!?
Yes, this is not a quick redecoration job. It's a full restoration.

Thanks Kate. After I posted I thought about your builders setting up storage and sheds etc - they know what they're doing!

Mark’s a slippery eel? 🤔 Hmm! I think he does quite well working full time and progressing so well on the renovation! Time for a vacation!
He is amazing but he is a slippery eel 😂

We believe Indo things once and do things well. It will happen in good time. We've come so far in 8 years and it's 100% more comfortable than it was.
I’ve renovated a house that took a couple of years but know I think life is to short and it’s only a house
I can appreciate your thoughts

I've been making Mark watch You Tube chateau channels in an attempt to put him off. I'm not sure it's working. He seems more fuelled up than ever.
@@elegantlyknackeredstyle I watch quite a few of them, but your channel is one of my favourites x

Oh no. Please leave the brick walls!
I'm afraid Norfolk red bricks are just too crumbly
