- The Gonzaga Bulldogs landed their first transfer portal player of the season in Steele Venters, a 6'7 wing who has hit 40% of his three pointers in a three year span with the Eastern Washington Eagles. What does he bring to Mark Few's team, and can he capably replace the likely departure of Julian Strawther?
Next we dive into Cal Baptist point guard Taran Armstrong, who listed Gonzaga among his final four alongside Xavier, Creighton, and Providence. We discuss why the Zags are an excellent fit and how they can pry him away from those other schools and create an elite two-guard lineup for next season.
We close out the show discussing Roger Powell, who departed Gonzaga after four years as an assistant coach to take the head coach position at Valparaiso University.

#Gonzaga #Zags
New episodes make my day, keep it up bro!! Love your content
Zags need a big 7ft and guards that can hit 3 pointers
Yes. A rim protector. Let's get Chet back as he has 3 years of eligibility!!😂
Yes that would be nice....
2017 blueprints
@@pook7274 2017 ZAG team was excellent. They should have beat UNC.
@@joinjen3854 can't he's not eligible & in the NBA now
Well, some of these Gonzaga Zags transfers portal players may not see another March Madness game again, depending on where they go to?
You completely forgot another bonus for the Zags with Taran. Toohey coming in played on Australias under 17 team with Taran
I'm not sure if Steel Venter is the answer? Zags need a guard that can score 20 points or better on a consistent level. I like Venter height size. Points lack some what? I guess time will tell?
"Success is ... knowing your purpose in life, growing to reach your maximum potential, and sowing seeds that benefit others." --John C. Maxwell
Zags need a reliable deep shooter against that March Madness premier perimeter defense - is this the guy?
Steele’s 3PT percentage has been well above average on a large volume too (over 6 3pt attempts per game the last two years). On paper he’s exactly what we need, jury’s out still on whether that will translate to tournament level comp
Malachi smith was that guy, but Few didn’t start him 🤦♂️
@@f.r.etling Few does some odd things.
@@joinjen3854 Might still be drinking…a few…too many
@@f.r.etling I disagreed with that decision all year. Smith is 5 times the player Hickman is and should’ve been starting and playing way more than him
Zags need dudes. These guys aren’t dudes and will get wrecked going against teams like Baylor and Arkansas that play punch you in the mouth basketball. Sure they will make the tournament but I don’t see any guys on the roster that can play bully basketball.
Still hoping Timme comes back.....$ talks and he can make a boat load with NIL. I am also hoping Anton comes back as well. If we get some more transfers and freshmen we may have another solid team on our hands.
What's the word on Taran Armstrong, Point Guard? Rumors have it he's coming to Gonzaga Zags? Any truth to it?
If the zags somehow get in the big east I believe they will break through with a natty. Take it from a UConn fan. The NCAA tourney is light work compared to the big east night in night out wars. Look at how UConn dismantled the zags this year. That conference the zags play in doesn't prepare them for the tourney.
I think it’s true that the majority of WCC games don’t prepare the zags for the tourney(even though the WCC is improving) I believe the Big East would the perfect fit as a small catholic school with a strong bb program….if Big EAST was just a clever name. Most of the games would be just too far away to be worth it which is my concern about the Big 10 possibility too. People talk Pac12…which after the upcoming departures…I’m not sure it’s even an upgrade from the improving WCC. We’ll see. Big 10 looks the best to me even though there would be a couple long trips for games.
Travel would kill it. No other teams in the PST or MST zones. Barely teams in the Central ( Creighton and ???)
Yeah, doesn't prepare them. In the big east maybe they could make a sweet 16 or even an elite 8...... oh wait.
@@mikekestell3987 yes but the zags have all sorts of terrific teams that just fall short. Again I say this as a life long UConn fan. You have no idea what the conference is like year in and year out. It's not just the quality of the teams it is the variety as well as the blood feuds that toughens teams up. I've seen UConn win 5 times. I'm telling you the big east gets them ready. Oh yeah. Nova won twice also.
@@mikekestell3987 Im a UConn guy but I like the zags. Love to see them win it someday. I just see that weak ass conference as a detriment. This was really driven home when I saw what UConn did to st. Mary's. Not in the same league. By contrast uconn lost to St John's!
