To all the viewers who have been with me since the beginning, consider this a victory lap. With every video the quality, research and passion increased, and I didn't realize how evident it was until putting this compilation together. All of your amazing comments, critiques, and compliments contributed to this undertaking and I couldn't ask for a better group of nerds to share this with!!
The craziest thing about this video is that you have footage of the first game. I have literally never seen the first game ever. Thank you for your swrvice
I played the original on PS2 with my dad RELIGIOUSLY. He was an LEO sniper and the original was how he taught 7 year old me the concept of bullet drop and the importance of being sneaky. Some of my best memories.
I know a fellow history autist would appreciate this, so I have to say that “white death” was not actually a contemporary soviet nickname for simo häyhä, it seems to have been instead a reference to particularly bad winter conditions. Häyhä was, however, nicknamed “magic shooter” by the finnish press, which is a pun on the finnish word for “sniper” (“accurate shooter”). “White death” as a nickname for simo häyhä didn’t really appear until the 1980s! Wild, eh?
I love this game series. I have nerve damage in my hands so traditional shooters are harder for me to play. I love sneaking up on enemies, successfully getting trap kills, and getting out before anyone knows im there. These games are like crack to me
You might enjoy metal gear solid V if that’s the case, the game is fast paced if you want it to be, or is slow and methodical all about how you approach the game, incredibly amazing game
Just wow dude, This was amazing. I hope the algorithm recommends this video to more people cause it definitely deserves it. Also you got 1 new subscriber from it. Keep up the good stuff.
Thank you for this insightful retrospective. I did 4,3,2 and 5. Three was the hardest and most frustrating. With V2 I have a real soft spot for. Love the missions and the environment. Not as open world as later games, I enjoy the linear progression.
Ive played the 1st game along with the 3rd 4th and 5th game. I absolutely love these games. As I was watching this video, I thought back to other games involving sniping. And now I want a video like this on sniper ghost warrior games. ❤
13:40 If you play on the hardest difficulty, the last sniper rifle on the first game is a bolt action that fires much slower (this isnt simulated on lower difficulties)
Hey @Analog_Nightmare, let me give you some context as to why Deathstorm should've scared you more. The Nazis were so afraid of losing the war that they were willing to NUKE THE FRENCH COASTLINE AND THEIR OWN FORCES! The fallout from such an attack would've devastated the landing force, the Allied Navy vessels bombarding the shore, and the local marine ecosystem for most of the English Channel would've been put in the past tense from the radioactive runoff. If the Allies heard about ANYTHING like Deathstorm they would be putting people on that problem within the hour and be expecting updates every hour on the hour until it was taken care of.
Haha I completely get that, I think after so many games of saving the world it sometimes starts to feel a little old. Deathstorm is definitely up there in terms of SE super weapons though, I agree. More than the Ratte haha
one thing i hated about alot of the missions in sniper elite was that you HAD to go loud in order to complete a mission , which i somewhat hate because i try to avoid killing most enemies unless they are key targets like radio operators etc , killing everyone on the map feels unprofessional from a commando standpoint and overall meh , i get the same feel in most games where stealth is a big part of the gameplay a sabotage mission turns into a bloodbat which ends up feeling unsatisfying , and since i immediately went into sniper elite 4 on authentic plus without the hud basicaly it meant that enemy never stopped searching for me
Yeah Sniper Elite has always been a series I love to hate because every game I always have 2-3 missions that absolutely blow me away on how thoughtful the developers were on the level designs and sightlines and other times like the second level in the city in 4 have me ripping my hair out because I'm trying to get through the level having to shoot or start fights as little as possible but there's so few ways to do it on the more linear maps and I notice the NPCs especially in 4 do gravitate towards the player if you move to slow and will eventually catch you if you dont start shooting or leave the area fast enough
The limited sightlines in se5 is mostly just because of the location. The bocage in France was compared to the cqb fighting in jungles. And in some cases I'm sure it was worse.
Thanks for all the SE analysis! Part of me wants to condemn SE5 for not delivering the pure sniping joy that playing SE4 gave me, but they did enough right that I enjoyed the game immensely. Invasion mode saved SE5.
I just redownloaded 3 and 4 off a steam sale last month, and was looking for some hyper fixation content for my favorite niche franchise, and happily stumbled upon this. 4 hours of a game I've been playing since 2013 when I managed to find V2 on sale at GameStop for ten bucks, and it's well made? Yes please!
I'm glad someone's covering the entire franchise. I'm hoping for a 6th game featuring Karl but where do they go after Sniper Elite Resistance when we're playing as Harry?
Cool to have these videos in one compilation. It gives the whole series a better context. Btw. who is that balding sweaty guy who is clapping like a maniac in front of the Microsoft logo? I have no idea why, but he completely cracks me up. Also, "Frenchie" in V, Marie Chevalier has actually been a SE character since V2. She's been a DLC skin in every game. V was the first time she actually made an appearance. 😎 "Listen very carefully, I will say thiz ønly wuence!"
@@elPominator Oh, I don't think he's crazy, his enthusiasm is just so funny to me in a good way. He seems manic in the clip, but it's quite infectious. It just makes me laugh, not AT him, but WITH him.
@Dustemikkel_Rev yeah, he ran things at M$ in their golden age, in large part because he treated M$ as a tech company, one that prioritised... DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS! Since then M$ has kinda followed Disney, Sony, Alphabet/Google and Meta/Facebook in being a general "lifestyle brand" company that tries to get to the lowest common denominator in making things as idiot friendly as possible like Apple did, regardless of the experience for people who actually WORK with the tech. So yeah, Steve holds a special place in my heart for being one of the last actual nerds that ran shit in a tech company before "geek chic" ruined everything with the big bang theoryisation of nerd culture as a lifestyle brand meant to sell funko pops
Yeah, I guess it’s just that kind of game, people on PC tend to get a bit frustrated in SE (multiplayer anyway) for some reason. I think the controls might just handle better on console
honestly massive shame that V2 didn't keep in stuff like the bormann mission. shit like that is actually far more interesting to me because of the historical context with his unclear circumstances of death instead of 'nazis have a super weapon!!!1' which is done to death. i do hope future sniper elites feature historical figures that aren't just hitler even if they are just background characters. also i feel the critique of SE5'S lack of open space is pretty silly of you when every other SE has been similarly as linear, if not much worse designed and just felt like bashing for the sake of bashing the new thing. apart from that good review.
Agreed on playing with ambiguous historical context, the alternative history angle is super compelling and makes for a far more interesting narrative. I still disagree about sightlines and map visibility however. SE4 was significantly wider both in terms of sightlines and vertical scale. This doesn't make SE5 a bad game, I did my best to dispel a lot of what I thought were bad takes about the game, but I maintain that there's a noticeable step back. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!
THE ULTIMATE Bonas Level should be a V2 spinoff where you Sniper Duel Vassili Zaitsev! And it should be a true peer duel with all your video game advantages turned off
I think the Sniper Elite series would benefit from some spin off titles. I understand that the series usually revolves around the Germans and their Wonder Weapons and Fairburne stopping them, but at the end of the day it's a espionage sniping shooter. A change in the theater of war would be a refreshing taste. The Soviets have their fair share of snipers and Sniper Elite having some dlc that includes Russian weaponry and skins. I feel like an Eastern front spin off would work since you can still have allied weapons because of the lend lease that the soviet got from the UK and US. All in all, great video of reviewing the series so far. I certainly hope the next Sniper Elite game is an improvement compared to SE5. Moving away from Fairburne may seem like heresy, but it might work, who knows.
Just found this channel because of this video, but I just wanted to say that I really enjoyed 5, but the fact I could beat my second playthrough with only the welrod (yes, even the very final shot took a lot of trial and error)
PERFECT TIMING!!! With WWII in real time starting a year early and Russkies at Berlin now... 6 year build up to replay... V2!!!!!!!!!! And the original to I suppose
if only Rebellion had the balls to set Sniper Elite 6 in Berlin circa 1961. East German citizenry scaling the Wall, jumping from windows. Snipers and Spies everywhere. If only..
I rage quit this video during the SE5 bashing, I played 5 first, than bought 4, I like 4 but I really miss all the refinements of 5 and the much more realistic photogrammetry based maps. Yes slightly less sniping... but more immersive believable maps with better variety of combat/stealth encounters, the AI is also both more tanky and more cowardly in SE4 so anything other than a head shot gets punished with the ai soldier running behind cover and hiding for 5 minutes. In SE5 IF they live from being shot through the chest/neck they slowly limp to cover and will occasionally blind fire or attempt to peek out to see where you are, they also can be incapacitated and other soldiers will attempt to pick them up move them to cover and give them first aid.
Hey man sorry to hear that, I'm glad that you enjoyed what you did though, even though SE5 wasn't my favorite I can totally see how it would be for others, just wasn't doin it for me.
I loved the whole video! And the channel :) But I just wanted to say, I adored the reflexes of an empty ketchup bottle joke, I thought it did make send and was amusing 🤷🏻♂️
I know this was unintentional, but according to the letters and stuff, the scientist you saved, wernicke, is the only one of them that isn’t an a horrible person
So YT actually allows us to place where ads go, but there's also an automatic AI driven option. I personally try to place them sparingly, and in a way that rewards longer viewers (for example after the 90 minute mark they're very infrequent). The thing you mention I find takes places if you let YT automatically place ads, it either goes balls to the wall or barely places any. This isn't a job for me, so ads really just allow me to inject some money back into the channel to buy gear, games, etc.
I hope SE:Resistance is what 5 should have been. I like the more realistic take on game but i want more enemies to shoot in maps, sometimes they felt empty
I saw!! I was rolling my eyes quite a bit at the Troy Baker performance but seeing that extended trailer the other day I think he's able to get the performance a bit more subtle.
