Numb3r4 For the first time in my 33+ life I've been severely disappointed and appalled after watching a movie. This is the second time ever that I've considered walking away from the theater during a movie. And I don't even find the prequel trilogy that hard to swallow, although the initial trilogy is gold (minus the Ewoks). It was a failure but this new one out-surpassed even their ridiculousness. I think that it's a bunch of wrong decisions, all around. 1. The villains are complete and utter failure in everything they do. A Sith lord that's a laughing stock. A henchman that does nothing more than snitch and get passive aggressive. 2. Every single action from every single character in almost every single scene felt fake. Just coming out of the blue for no reason other than neatness within a storyline. People do tons of stuff that take an entire story arc to explain at every turn... so everything seems random and unnatural. Phony. Everything Solo does is out of place. Completely opposite to his character as it was so far. 3. The old villains had some semblence of militarism, effectiveness and strategy. They looked menacing. The prequel villains were goofy but they maintained some cartoony quality about it. These are goofy while looking to be serious about it. 4. Nothing makes sense motivation-wise and tactics-wise. The villain retreating from a handful of X-Wings with a company of troops and a small fleet. The New Republic acts as a resistance force - no sense splitting them. We don't get to see or care for the New Republic. The destroyed planets - we don't know if they're important and why for. We didn't know they were there. The only way to understand and explain this movie is a bunch of Disney executives, huge ultra-rich billionaires and political correctness commissars twisting Abrams' arm at every turn. It's the only way I can imagine this fine director making a bunch of decisions that obviously make no sense. So.... it's politics and short-sightedness trumping over craftsmanship and art.

For the first time in my 33+ life I've been severely disappointed and appalled after watching a movie.
This is the second time ever that I've considered walking away from the theater during a movie.
And I don't even find the prequel trilogy that hard to swallow, although the initial trilogy is gold (minus the Ewoks). It was a failure but this new one out-surpassed even their ridiculousness.
I think that it's a bunch of wrong decisions, all around.
1. The villains are complete and utter failure in everything they do. A Sith lord that's a laughing stock. A henchman that does nothing more than snitch and get passive aggressive.
2. Every single action from every single character in almost every single scene felt fake. Just coming out of the blue for no reason other than neatness within a storyline. People do tons of stuff that take an entire story arc to explain at every turn... so everything seems random and unnatural. Phony. Everything Solo does is out of place. Completely opposite to his character as it was so far.
3. The old villains had some semblence of militarism, effectiveness and strategy. They looked menacing. The prequel villains were goofy but they maintained some cartoony quality about it. These are goofy while looking to be serious about it.
4. Nothing makes sense motivation-wise and tactics-wise. The villain retreating from a handful of X-Wings with a company of troops and a small fleet. The New Republic acts as a resistance force - no sense splitting them. We don't get to see or care for the New Republic. The destroyed planets - we don't know if they're important and why for. We didn't know they were there.
The only way to understand and explain this movie is a bunch of Disney executives, huge ultra-rich billionaires and political correctness commissars twisting Abrams' arm at every turn. It's the only way I can imagine this fine director making a bunch of decisions that obviously make no sense.
So.... it's politics and short-sightedness trumping over craftsmanship and art.

He just felt that his story had been told by the end of Empire Strikes back and didn't like how Return of the Jedi turned out because he basically played no role in that movie. He also hates that when it comes to his acting career, all anyone ever talks about is Star Wars and it pisses him off because he tried to make a name for himself in many other franchises but no-one knows about anything else he has done. I think that he quite likes Han Solo as a character, he's just a little played out is all.

My mother, for some reason, didn't actually introduce me to the Original trilogy (I introduced myself) even though Star Wars is one of her favorite movies but she did introduce me to Star Wars with the prequels. But between my dad and my grandma, I knew who Indiana Jones was before I knew what Star Wars was and I was three when The Phantom Menace came out and saw it in theaters. My point in that long, unnecessary tirade is that pretty much everything I've seen him in, I've loved him in and went to certain movies (looking at Cowboys and Aliens) because of him.

I think I'd only seen Air force one except for Star Wars before, but now after TFA I've seen like every movie he's been in. Hanover street, for example, great romantic WW2 film. A favourite scene is from Frantic when he's eating paper. And he's also naked with a teddy bear, getting kicked in the face by the french police. Awesome. :D
