    Thank You for sharing this.....I know it's a older video but as a beginner rider and passenger combo this helps tremendously. 😂 We both must have looked like Rodeo clowns getting on and off the bike ninja style kicking each other!

    Thank you for addressing this issue, I used to ride much as a young person but now that I'm 62 and my boyfriend is 70 I found that I couldn't get on the bike as I used to old joints and muscles don't work that well. We tried this method and BINGO I was on....

    A motor cop taught me this years ago. I always mount from high side. It works on Suzukis, Victories, Kawasakis, and of course Harleys. I have even mounted sport bikes with this method.

    Hi Jerry, I just finished competing in a Police Motorcycle Rodeo in Wayne NJ. Around 50 competitors, including many of the nations top riders. Everyone, and I mean everyone mounted and dismounted from the high-side, (right side). Now many motorcycles fell over this past weekend, including mine, however none fell over due to mounting from the high-side. Keep up the good work and say hi to Donna from me.

    • @motorman857
      @motorman857  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Donna says hi and to keep riding safe. How did you do at the competition?

    • @tri-stateloadmaster6093
      @tri-stateloadmaster6093 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ride Like a Pro Jerry Palladino, I did well. Competition nerves lead to me touching two cones and passing on the wrong side of a cone. Out of 5 low speed exercises, I ran 3 clean. I managed to run the high speed exercise clean. The Challenge Course was three 18ft keyholes we needed to complete brake-less. I touched two cones and put a foot down. I need more brake-less practice!

    • @motorman857
      @motorman857  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Brake-less is tough. No doubt about it.

    I heard that police officers are told to get off/on the right side because they usually park on the right shoulder, and that way they are less exposed to passing traffic. The issue my wife has is getting over the backrests, which don't fold. She's only 5', and the floorboards being forward, and not under her seat makes it even more awkward.

      Do you have a question?

    • @billychaney4581
      @billychaney4581 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think his question is "how can his wife get on the backseat with his riders backrest in the way" your method didn't include that option.... I have similar problem with my Ultra it having a trunk & riders backrest & my short wife can't swing leg over the trunk or hop over the riders backrest.....

    • @motorman857
      @motorman857  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Just have your wife get on the passenger seat first. Mounting from the right side with her right foot on the passenger floorboard will allow her to not have to lift her leg all the way over the tourpack.

    • @wanderleisantosfilho5765
      @wanderleisantosfilho5765 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you - we'll try that too. What doesn't help is the forward floorboards, and non-folding backrest. Maybe i need a new bike...

      If you're talking about backing into a parking spot, don't try to back your bike uphill. Even if a bunch of other bikers did just that. Pull in, when the parking spot is up hill.

    • @ericheine2414
      @ericheine2414 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ride Like a Pro Jerry Palladino
      So if you back in, keep the front wheel higher than your rear wheel,
      Keep the kickstand on the high side. Always back down.

    • @motorman857
      @motorman857  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your complicating this. Don't back up hill. Pull in when the spot is up hill.

    Question -- I favor a full face helmet
    Why? Well, besides it being superipr in bad weather like rain or snow. If you hit the ground the geometry of your head hitting the ground ONLY where these helmets cover is very improbable. In addition your momentum will make you slide. So, during this slide and the impact your skull will be saved but your face is toast. Checks, jaw bones, nasal cavities, teeth, tongue, orbital sockets, eyes, all of it is now a prime target. Why water them or am I missing something?
    Yes, I do ride. I ride in storms, rain, blistering heat, 10 degree weather, snow, ice, and whatever else is coming. I live for motorcycles and actually get a charge out or riding I to a storm. I love bikes and my harley is my daily. So, I do have experience with fogging mask, using my hand as a constant windshield to remove wet snow, man I use the engine to warm my hands during freezing temps.

    • @priestof1
      @priestof1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ride Like a Pro Jerry Palladino wow? Thanks for responding! Why do you and police wear that style helmet when it exposes your face to a bad crash. All motorcyclist know we are 2nd class citizens on the road so why not cover the entire head

    • @motorman857
      @motorman857  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do wear a full face helmet on the street. What other people do is up to them.

    • @priestof1
      @priestof1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ride Like a Pro Jerry Palladino ok, it appears that a good majority of people on non track bikes wear skull helmets. Just fishing for a reason.

    I have a 1200 superlow. Being as it is lighter, Still cool for my wife to mount the bike that way?

    • @motorman857
      @motorman857  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Sportster sits so low you shouldn't have to put your foot on the peg to swing a leg over it.

    • @michaec1
      @michaec1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey thanks for info. Took my wife for a ride on the bike today. Your videos have helped me a lot. Much appreciated and thanks!

    • @motorman857
      @motorman857  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sure. But being that bike is so low, she shouldn't have to put her foot on the foot peg prior to lifting her leg over the seat.

    • @motorman857

      Have the passenger mount directly onto the passenger seat.

  • @showcasecharlie11
    @showcasecharlie11 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    What about bikes with backrests?
    Its like pulling teeth to get her to step up and lift leg over seat instead of swinging leg.. ugh

    • @motorman857
      @motorman857  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's a lot easier to lift your left leg over the backrest or tourpack with the right foot on the floor board.

    • @showcasecharlie11
      @showcasecharlie11 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@motorman857
      Unfortunately not for her. Thats a big lift. I tell her to stand on the high side, passenger side, hold me and tourpak, stand up on rear floorboard with right foot, the lift left foot ovee seat and sit down.

    When passenger is climbing from high side, first they do is step on the peg and grab the handlebar, that's when the bike will unbalance and fall on passenger's side. Seen more than once. Either process needs to be explained to them or just have them climb from low (kickstand) side.

    • @motorman857
      @motorman857  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Absolute nonsense. I've mounted even lowered bikes this way and never came close to tipping the bike over on me and I weigh 200lbs. You'd actually have to try to tip the bike over on you when mounting from the right. But of course, you do what you want and never try this or you'll find you're wrong and that might hurt your feelings.

    not good for all bike Harley's stand locks in place Goldwings and others do not

    • @motorman857
      @motorman857  7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yes. This is why I demonstrate it on a Harley and state in the video, that it's a way for the passenger to mount the bike, not the only way and see if it works for you.

    • @motorman857
      @motorman857  7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Keep in mind also, that a passenger can mount from the right side first, as well, and then just scoot up on the rear seat. And then, the rider gets on the bike. I came up with this because in my classes when I need to ride a student around the course, many of these guys have never ridden as a passenger and have a hell of a time getting on the passenger seat when I'm sitting in the riders seat. Some of them find it impossible. That's when I started having them get on the bike and then just slide up to the passenger seat.
