In this video I give you a few reasons why you shouldn't deadhead your Cardinal Flower plant, Lobelia, in the late summer / early autumn. Deadheading does produce new blossoms but by late summer the plant needs to conserve energy to get ready for its winter hibernation.
Do you have a Cardinal Flower? Do you deadhead it in the late summer?

Thank you for the helpful tips! My hummingbirds love my Cardinal flowers. They provide a good source of nectar.

Today I pulled out the stalk and thought it would work like my lilies did. But there were moist what seemed like Roots at the base when I pulled the tall thing out.

That’s ok if the stalk was passed blooming. This years growth and blooms will come from the basal green growth at the base. You can plant the stalk in a humus rich potting mixture and set it inside in a sunny spot. It may take. 🪴
