Hello, I wish you luck. For a plant that grows wild the cultivars we buy can be finicky. Best of luck and happy gardening. 🌻

Just bought a plant a couple weeks ago from a local nursery. It wasn’t in the best shape, so I’ve trimmed the leaves and looking to repot. I’m a new gardener and bought this as a companion plant for my vegetable container garden. Thanks for tips on soil and watering!

Cardinal flowers do well in pots make sure that the pot is an ample size so that the roots have a chance to expand a bit and be mindful of the moisture level. Good luck with it and happy gardening. 🌻

Yes, have cardinal flowers. These are biennial plants. First year it builds roots and structure but no flowers. Second year it flowers.

Hello. Cardinal flowers are short-lived perennials, not biennials. Each year flowers form from basal growth, if that growth survives the winter. Happy gardening b🌻

should this plant be cut back in the fall?

Hello. I keep mine in place as the seeds will provide food for finches. Place some straw around the base to protect the basal growth. Happy gardening 🌻

Hello. Actually they are not biennials. Considered a short-lived perennial. Happy gardening. 🌻

Hello. Not true. Cardinal flowers are short-lived perennials. The stalks grow from the basal growth each year, not every second year as biennials do. Happy gardening. 🌻
