After cutting them back, I sprayed the crown of the plants with neem oil. Luckily, my plants were able to fully rebound and put on some fresh growth before the end of the season. @@madelinerivera7445 For vacation.. then yes! It's so quiet here in Denmark. Nordic countries are known for being very still and quiet and reserved. It's all the months of darkness, I guess.
Rhizomatous plants like anemone and astrania: the former I would stick in a planter or it will run everywhere in a few years. There is a granule called Preen, made from corn gluten, that is used to suppress germination of weeds. It is a lifesaver for gravel/pebble pathways and inside all beds. I only use it once annually after annuals are planted. Should be something similar in Denmark I imagine.
We will 100% look up Preen. They must have something similar here. For now, our weed burner has been working really well. But having other options is always good, too.
I'm gardening in zone 6 middle of the US and it's so crazy that we are growing the same plants! It's really global. Also, I don't mind your playful disagreements about plants! It's normal.
What a wonderful garden tour. Your garden is so beautiful and plentiful! Would you happen to know the name of the cultivar of the sanguisorba with light pink flower? Your passion for beauty of flowers and plants is unmatched. The beautiful houttuynia took over my garden. It’s been 5 years of trying to eradicating it. It is considered an invasive plant in USA. I am trying to give you head up. It may not be as aggressive in your zone…
Thanks so much for watching! That sanguisorba is the 'pink brushes' variety. And we love it :). And yes, that houttuynia is super aggressive... it's not invasive here... but my goodness, we're having to keep an eye on it and already making plans to isolate it next season.
Thanks so much for watching! We aren't doing any fall planting, no. ...but we are autumn sowing a lot of seeds and taking cuttings of our perennials, too. th-cam.com/video/aH2r-cl7_AQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=OcalkewVJ_--gzua ...lots to do for sure 🥰
I am one who would like to see you and Lars argue. Just kidding 😂. Galardia is one of my favorites but I have found that the pollinators do not visit it. Have you experienced that. You have so many beautiful flowers if I were to comment on all that I love this would be a very long comment. I can’t believe you are new to TH-cam. Thanks for sharing.
😂 Our arguments are pretty much what you see here. And usually Lars wins (home turf advantage 🇩🇰). So glad I’ve another Gaillardia fan here 🥰. Surprised that you don’t get many pollinators tho. Hmmmm. The bees do visit a lot - not as much (now that you mention it) as some others… but nothing to worry about. Altho I will pay way more attention to it now 🤓 And thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment. It means a lot to us 😀😀
Thanks for watching! And you know... we have a red Gaillardia... I wonder if it is an Arizona Red. I'll make sure to find out! But if not... 100% agree that they would look great here. And it would break up some of the yellow (which we have a lot of).
Have you considered adding acanthus and euphorbia species to your lovely garden? They are real arcitectuaral plants in a garden. I grow a lot of similar plants to yours in British Columbia, Canada
We actually do nothing to them. They were here when we bought the house back in 2018. All we do is trim them very very hard back each year. ...the rest is just a blessing. Here's all that we do: th-cam.com/video/OKZqrMkktvk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=x2VUpuz_Z48B6H-W

We love the social system here. There's free education, universal health care, etc. We also are blessed with 5 weeks paid vacation (6 weeks in most companies), too. All of this comes with very high taxes, however. But... to have a healthy, 'equal and fair' society, it's worth it. Of course there are problems, too. ...but for the most part, we're very thankful for the system, especially because we have a child.
Can you please explain how manu of each kind do you plant together? Like the blanket flower, is that only 1 plant? Im starting my own cottage style garden as you have inspired me! Im from New Zealand (Auckland)! We are subtropical here. I dont know how many of each kind i need to plant. Thanks! 😊

If the Houttuynia reverts to green, you will have rhizomes absolutely everywhere and it will be impossible to get rid of. I am in the US state North Carolina.
It’s a pain for sure! Are you still finding it in your garden? It’s here and there in ours - should take several years to get it out completely (if ever!)
@@perennial-garden Yes, I have it everywhere in my garden, even far from where I planted the original variegated form about 25 years ago. What I have now is entirely green and about 20 inches tall. It does have a pretty white flower in mid spring but its growth will quickly smother anything near it. It does not like the cold, so it will die back completely, however it will return with full coverage of a planted bed. Whenever I dig a place for a new plant I always find a thick mat of white rhizomes a little bit smaller than the diameter of a pencil and I remove and bag for trash all that I see. I think the method for removal will have to be thorough removal of each stalk as it emerges in the spring. I have about 1/4 of an acre of it now. Its sale is prohibited in many parts of the US. One could always try to paint each cut stem with an herbicide but I do not use that method. Please begin a regime to remove all that you see in your garden and please don't give it to others.
@@paulacothren3591 Oh wow! And you're right... from what we've learned, only a chemical will get rid of it, but that's not what we want in our ground either. We keep digging it up every time we see a tiny bit and keep those areas of the garden monitored. It doesn't like the cold... so hopefully our cold winters will keep doing some damage on it. Although, I'm sure it's a long battle (like you have!). My goodness. Thanks for sharing tho! Hope we both get a garden free of it soon.
Please don't worry about white or green fly there is an old saying how do I get ladybirds 🐞 into my garden bring in the green and white fly loppens are well noted for white fly especially the first year the white fly helps because the flower that produce a sticky kind of sauger goopy that the white fly eat they don't really harm the plant but it does bring in the predators but my God you're grapes 🍇

Thanks for joining us 🥰. Ours is Sanguisorba Pink Brushes - is that what you’re growing, too? We’ve planted it in just “normal” soil in our garden, but we’ve been working the soil with compost for years (once in autumn and once in spring). We didn’t fertilize this past season. We did have to water a lot this summer as Denmark had a big drought and hotter-than-normal weather.
@perennial-garden Maybe my soil got too dry as we had no rain between may and July here in S, England. My variety is S. Obtusa. I am also growing S. Tanya, S. Canadensis Alba and S. Pink Elephant. I simply adore them. I mulch my garden every spring with well rotted horase manure. I garden on clay

AHHHHHHH! Thank you for commenting 🥰 And we're glad you can see that we enjoy it out here... that makes all the difference.
Love your garden! You both have done so much in a short time - impressive! I have been busy collecting seeds as well, which is one of my favorite things to do this time of year. Wish I was gardening in your zone, as I am in 5a & things are looking a bit sad... Keep up the great videos! Thank you!
Another fellow seed collector! Thanks for watching. And we'll try to enjoy the weather for as long as we can... the rainy, cold winter is coming quick.
Oh how I love your gardens so much!! And you have officially convinced me to try dahlias (maybe the cabana banana cabana nana ones!) 😂😂
Who names those things?! Someone somewhere does it just to confuse normal guys like us 🤣
@@perennial-garden 😂
Your garden is still looking gorgeous in September! I think I need some Helianthus. It's movement in the breeze is beautiful. Love your new toy, but I have to say, it scares me a bit! 🙀 Thanks for the tour! 🌸
It scares me (Allen) a bit, too! haha... but it works and I'm happy for that. And get those helianthus! They're also strong enough to handle some of the coastal winds we're getting this autumn without breaking.
we need more pumpkin spice lattes
☕️
This was a marvelous video. Apart from the sheer beauty, I'm learning a lot from you guys. Thank you for pampering us this way. Also thrilled with you showing us the way you organized your greenhouse interior.
What a wonderful comment! Thank you so much. And as for the greenhouse...it's always a work in progress for this time of year. It's more or less empty all summer and now starts to fill up again! We show a bit more of it here: th-cam.com/video/aH2r-cl7_AQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=tks_5969uLQe53e8 ...and will keep updating everyone as more cuttings and seeds go in :)
I feel like it would be nice to see a fall tidy up video from you guys in a few weeks! :D
We were just talking about that today - it’ll be time to get the garden ready for winter very soon. We’ll make sure to take you along 🥰
Great ! @@perennial-garden
ohhhhh my gawdddd! REALLY REALLY REALLY LOVE THIS VIDEO! You have so many interesting perennials! I love that you share all that info with us. But I had to crack up. Lars must have said "REALLY' about 56 times and I lost count with your "REALLYS" LOL! You guys are such a cute pair. And don't worry about biting your nails, my son does that too since he was a little boy. It builds your immune system. Btw, you toe nails look great, lol! Anyway, thank you, thank you...I really really love your garden! Love that Salvia Viridis!! So many seeds! You guys should get into seed selling. You'd make a ton of money!
😂 lars knows he says it too. He tries to stop, but it’s such a habit when he speaks English. Bless him 😂.
And if that’s true, my immune system must be super great. I’m just glad my son doesn’t have the habit. 😅
@@perennial-garden 🤭🤭🤭it's really cute. And his english is really great!! Hey, that's already special; to be able to speak two languages!! My parents are from Puerto Rico so I'm used to hearing accents from all over the world. Sorry that I'm commenting so much, I'm just wowed by your content. Thanks again.
@@madelinerivera7445 ooooo puerto rico! now there's a place we'd love to visit. Especially today as it's still raining and still cold 😅
@@perennial-garden it's beautiful over there but you wouldn't catch me living there. Tooooo many LOUD, extra special Puerto Ricans. I was raised here in the states, very conservative; so all that noise starts getting on my nerves. A very different culture, but it is fun! And if you don't mind the heat and bright sun, well then it's the perfect place!
Gardening is a universal language! Love it :)
I love you guys garden. It’s perfection !! Any plans for fall planting ?
Altho I will pay way more attention to it now 🤓
And thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment. It means a lot to us 😀😀
Would love for you to go more in-depth about all of the plants in your garden
Thanks for watching! And we can do that 🤓. This was our first year on TH-cam - so we’re glad to know what people would like to see.
Nice tour! The Persicaria looks really good. Have you grown Gaillardia ‘Arizona red’? I think it would look great in your garden.
I grow a lot of similar plants to yours in British Columbia, Canada
hmmmm.. we haven't but we will now! Thanks for the inspiration (and adding to our shopping list 🥰😜)
Too good..beautiful colours..Send me some seeds of these plants😊😅.Happygardening
New subscriber 🙏
Thanks for watching! And we can’t send seeds - but if you come by, we’ll share all we can 💜💜
I’d love to know how you grow the grapes. My vines are a mess and never produce like yours.
We actually do nothing to them. They were here when we bought the house back in 2018. All we do is trim them very very hard back each year. ...the rest is just a blessing. Here's all that we do: th-cam.com/video/OKZqrMkktvk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=x2VUpuz_Z48B6H-W

I love your garden! What zone are you guys planting?
Thanks for watching! We’re in Denmark, on the east coast - zone 8a.
You didn't like that white Dahlia😜❓❓ cummon give it to me!!
I would love to grow it from seeds too.
I love it ❤
Did you know ❓
Pompom Dahlias are better keeping as cut flowers .
If you wanted to cut other types for the vase you might want to immerse the cut stalk in hot water for 10 minutes you get these a little longer in the vase ...

GREAT tips! We're still learning about cut flowers -- so I love tips like that. We'll try it this summer :)
Hello! Can you please tell me more about Denmark being a social state? How is it in every aspect? Very curious thank you!
@@perennial-gardenthat’s fabulous 😊
Pros and cons... but mostly pros 😊 Thanks for asking and being interested. @@mercury_rising
Can you please explain how manu of each kind do you plant together? Like the blanket flower, is that only 1 plant? Im starting my own cottage style garden as you have inspired me! Im from New Zealand (Auckland)! We are subtropical here. I dont know how many of each kind i need to plant. Thanks! 😊
For that plant, it was only one. We've made a few videos where we break it down a bit more... let me paste one here:

Thanks so much for the encouragement and tips! We did get ladybugs after the dry spell ended... so we're thankful for them.
And yes, aren't those grapes looking delicious?! It's time to bring them in and make jelly soon. Can't wait!
hi I am newly subscribed to your channel and loving it. I love Sanguisorba but my one died. Not sure what happened. what growing condition so they like? the nursery bought mine from said any soil and easy. My poor plant didn't think so. Yours looks glorious. Do you know which variety it is please Love it!
Thanks for joining us 🥰. Ours is
Sanguisorba Pink Brushes - is that what you’re growing, too?
@@bewoodford2807you’re probably right, it got too dry. We had a serious dry season too, so we had to water the garden more than usual. Hope you’re does better this year! And thanks for telling us about the varieties you’re working with - more to put on our wish list ❤
