- I know I know it's a little strange BUT rubbing alcohol or isopropyl alcohol is a hard thing to find right now during this pandemic or the new world order as I like to call it. So I have tested a BUNCH of things to see if I can find any good alternatives I tried Mean green, Purple Power to name a few and to my surprise Vodka kinda worked and better then the others. but of course you must be 21+ years of age to try this but it's definitely a go to when you are in a pinch.

Nice! It really works well in a first rinse machine, prior to the second rinse machine, filled with 99IPA and in a particular case, it creates a desirable finish.
The ethanol in vodka is more reactive than propanol as a solvent, whereas isopropyl is a secondary isomer to propanol, and more effective as a chemical intermediate to make other compounds. This is why isopropyl is more common than propanol.
However, vodka simply costs too much to be practical, with most vodka being only 40% ethanol, where isopropyl is around 90%, at several times cheaper by volume. Everclear is 80%, but at $16 for a fifth, I save it to drink instead.
Methanol is even more reactive than ethanol. It's used in drag racing fuel, & military spec biodiesel. It costs $10 for a 1 gallon bottle, at 99.95% alcohol. Available at any local race fuel shop, maybe even hardware stores with other solvents.
This comment was made a year ago and I’m struggling to believe that rubbing alcohol was actually cheaper than booze back then. It’s certainly not now. I’m looking at a gallon of 80 proof vodka for $16 and that’s the only reason why I’m looking at this video lol
@@justinduncan2480 ... Supply and demand, and practical use. Ethanol may make a tasty & soothing beverage, but it's not practical for industrial applications. Isopropyl (rubbing alcohol) is more reactive for production applications in solvents, surfactants, & emulsifiers. It's used by the millions of gallons per day in refineries & chemical production facilities. It's used as a more effective intermediate chemical in herbicides, it's a more effective sanitizer in medical applications, & a better preservative for biological specimens. Ethanol is a one-trick-pony. It'll get ya drunk, but not so good for anything else. Rubbing alcohol has always been more common & cheaper since the industrial age began. Also, ethanol is never produced at 100% either. 92.4% is the practical limit of ethanol distillation, limited by chemical azeotrope. Concentrating it higher would be cost prohibitive, and not result in anything better than 99.9% isopropanol or methanol.
You know how some people do two cups? This might be a good idea to get most resin off then use iso for the final clean!
Exactly that’s what I do seems to work ok
Just going to keep an emergancy bottle of Ruskie Fuel in the studio for the lols.
Do it!!!!
@@ToyKings Already done!
Also, just a note, I picked up some Denatured Alcohol Fuel from Home Depot's Thinner/Varnish aisle on a suggestion when I went out to grab the handle of vodka.
IT WORKS PERFECTLY!
Def use outside and store separately possibly in your basement but I found the holy grail of cheap resin cleaners!
Ohhhh interesting!!
