- The Water Search and Rescue Training was conducted at the Philippine Merchant Marine Academy for the PMMA-PCG Cadets. This course teaches the basics of life-saving at sea and prepares the cadets for their upcoming Coast Guard Officer Course which they will need to complete after graduation.
Hey there Guys! Finally found some time to edit! I've been shooting for a week at PMMA as part of a series of Maritime Education and Training topics for my channel. Of course when we say maritime, it doesn't only mean the merchant marine. Maritime includes different groups such as the Coast Guard, which incidentally is in charge of Port State Control so we definitely get to interact with them all the time. As a volunteer firefighter here in New York I can understand why this needs to be done. I'm hoping quarterly on ship. At least once a year on base. Excellent video Cheif 😎👍

I do not impress easily , but this truly was impressive.
In the Med doing helo pax work at full ahead , 15 ‘ seas , 65 * F temp. Helo had a casualty causing a man overboard port side aft.
Now flank Bell, full left rudder , well over 30 knots. My station was the MWB. A Senior Chief Boatswain panicked , ordered the MWB lowered to deck edge and to board. The boat was like a pendulum crashing into the hull as we took white water.
Then he had us lowered away ...not at steerage way . A huge wave took out the bow sea painter cleat and bow first we went in. Now we had 7 more men overboard. I knew I was gonna die. Cud see , feel and hear the screws. Just as scary as Combat with the Marine Corps for the First Gulf War.
Suddenly all of my boot camp water training kicked in ....and I felt warm all over. God was allowing me to care for my shipmates trying to drown. ( I was the Duty Corpsman ).
What impresses me here is the PMMA Cadets swim. I’m shocked in our country that nobody swims ( sorry this Kano adopted this country) :)
And to see the high speed , low drag , rompin stomping training at the Academy is truly awesome. I’m starting to understand why graduates of your Alma Matter must be such sought after Officers.

6:50 ooo I saw the life boat training tower! Can you show a drill where they drop the life boat into the water?! I have to imagine that’s a a major jolt when you hit the water!

I played it on the phone, laptop speakers and headphones and it sounded fine. Not perfect due to some small noise but the narration was very clear. I've experienced a similar issue on some of my videos when played on a TV. So probably it will depend on the setup.

Pwede basta college graduate. Pero priority nila pag maritime graduate.
Do you need to be a good swimmer to be a seaman?
It's an advantage.
I have a question regarding the salary. When an officer says he earns 3000 a month for example, is that only for the months onboard or for 12 months?
While onboard only.
Chief MAKOi And would you say the salaries are good even though you are only getting payed for 6 months for example?
For the lower ranks, their contracts are usually 9 months and they usually go on vacation for 2-3 months. Officers have 6-8 months contract and usually go on vacation for 2-3 months but they could go back to work earlier if they want. For me, I work around 8 months a year and what I earn is still more than enough to have a very comfortable life.
