    Here's the Oathtaking Day video for the Cadets of PMMA Class of 2022. It took a while for me to edit because I was actually a bit sick on the day I shot this and then on the following day, I lost my voice due to heavy coughing. I just recovered a bit of my voice yesterday so I finally got to record the voice-over for this video. Anyway, this will be the last PMMA video I will make for this year as I will be leaving to join my ship very soon. So stay tuned for a new season of Seaman vlogs! I have a lot of episode topics planned out and for sure they will be better than my videos from last year! Don't forget to hit LIKE and if you're not a subscriber yet, hit the SUBSCRIBE button! ⚓👍😀

      Good day chief,
      Pwede po patulong? gusto ko po sanang mag apply kaso nagdadalawang isip po kasi ako dahil hindi pa kompleto yung requirements ko. Certificate of no marriage nalang po talaga before ko ipapadala sa admissions office. It would take days for me to process and acquire my CENOMAR eh tapos yung application form deadline ay papalapit na po, August 31 na ang cut off. Ngayon ko palang po kasing nalaman ang process ng admission eh atsaka I'm also a graduating student of AB-Philosophy wishing to proceed in this area.

    When these PMMA cadets graduate, they will be as well trained and qualified as USMMA cadets, able to assume junior officer deck and engineer positions on a Phillipine Navy war vessal or any merchant marine ship, anywhere in the world. US Navy, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marine Officers have nothing but the highest respect for PMMA graduates. Graduation from the PMMA is a golden ticket to some of the highest paying jobs a person can be employed to perform. With this high salary comes hard work, long hours, great responsibility and long periods of time away from your family.

    Chief, alam nyo po mrami akong nrealize x mga vlogs m sa pmma... i used to study n a maritime skul. Bt i quit because i cnt stand the i think 'inhumane' treatment that i didnt understand back then. Bt, aftr i watched all your videos i am determined to change my ways. Like what ur frnd said: discipline, attitude, and brain... now, i am studying BS pharmacy with this things in mind. Thank you chief. Back then i really hate the officers who yelled at me,let me do stuff i dnt like, etc. bt come to think of it... now i am inspired by an officer.

    Bravo Zulu
    Your video’s just keep improving exponentially.
    In the USN Boot camp , when we finished , we had what were referred to as “ Grinder Reminders “ , when we un-covered , there would be a pink demarcation line where the sun did not burn our skin dark , ergo a “ grinder reminder of marching on the grinder.
    These young Men and Women got burned too...they obviously had no access to whitening soap :)
    They really got squared away in 30 days. I’m quite impressed.
    When will they not have to brace in that painful manner ?
    Again , maraming maraming salama Po for all of your hard work

      Thanks! This will be my last PMMA video for this year as I'll be joining a ship in a few days. It's actually their first time to wear the uniform as they have only earned that privilege on Oathtaking Day so their faces are burned without lines yet 😄. They will earn "carry on" status on Recognition Day. That will be around May next year.

    • @ChiefMAKOi
      @ChiefMAKOi  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Partly due to tradition but to put it simply, since the plebes are the lowest ranking cadets, the awkward posture is just part of training them to know their place within the Corps and act according to their station, even if it's uncomfortable. They will maintain those until the time they are "recognized".

    'Kinell, Chief - this is the MERCHANT Navy?? It looks far worse than the UK Royal Navy, and these are supposed to be civilians... PT and marching?? Oath taking?? Whatever for? I was in the UK Merchant Navy many years ago when it was the greatest merchant service in the world. As an engineer cadet you did one year at sea, then two years OND/HND, back to sea for a year then the final 18 months workshop practical course, after which you got your Diploma in Marine and Electrical Engineering. This allowed you to go to sea as a Junior Engineer/electrician, once the Board of Trade had "Graded" you (cadets had the highest grading, followed by heavy engineering apprentices, light engineering etc). From there you got the requisite sea time to get your "tickets" and move up the ranks to Chief Engineer. At Marine School just about the only regulation was that you had to wear grey trousers, white shirt, blazer and tie with company badge. There was no marching, PT, uniforms, oath taking or anything else more suited to the armed forces. Saluting? Never saw any need for that... At sea you wore the company uniform, which was usually pretty informal apart from on passenger ships.
    I'm amazed at this, and am wondering on the worth of it all - must ask my nephew in law who is Filipino and has presumably gone through all this.

    • @ChiefMAKOi
      @ChiefMAKOi  6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I know it might seem strange or excessive but that has been the training method used at PMMA for around a hundred years now. And the results have been very good as PMMA graduates have paved the way for Filipino seafarers to get a lot of the opportunities they enjoy now. It's the leadership and discipline training which makes a lot of difference. Thanks for watching and I'm glad the video piqued your interest! 😀

      @Stephen, they also get commissioned as Naval Reserve Officers upon commencement and could be activated in times of war or national emergency.

    • @SanBrunoBeacon
      @SanBrunoBeacon 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Stephen, with all due respect, the PMMA is a highly regarded school for training merchant marine, Coast Guard and Navy Officers. In the United States, we have schools that are exactly like the PMMA. One is called the USMMA (U.S. Merchant Marine Academy):
      www.usmma.edu/about
      As is true at the PMMA oath taking, saluting, hard physical exercise and strict discipline are required at the USMMA and Cal Maritime Academy. Why? Reason 1 -- Because these USMMA cadets are also going to be commissioned as an officer in one of the branches of the US Armed Forces. Reason 2 - If you can't hack the hard discipline at one of these academies, you probably aren't cut out to be an effective merchant marine officer. The tough discipline at these schools weeds out the weak midshipmen who do not stand up well under pressure. Do you really want to go to sea with a merchant marine officer who falls apart under pressure?
      As to whether or not all of this discipline is worth it; well, if you want to be a PMMA or USMMA Academy graduate, all of this discipline and training is worth it because if you don't go through this training or fail the training, you will not graduate :-)

    • @OperationEndGame
      @OperationEndGame 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Merchant Marines were also activated in times of war to work in conjuction with the Navy ... See WW2, USMM were commissioned in naval logistics and supply transports across both Atlantic and Pacific...
