I actually have some research on that. The US Navy and the PMMA (formerly PNS) have close ties during the American era. The first commanding officer of the Offshore Patrol (pre-cursor of the Philippine Navy) was Rafael Ramos. He is a PNS graduate.

I took the entrance exam in PMMA and passed and was subject to medical examinations. Unfortunately, I failed psychological tests as I was deemed aggresive in nature. Being declared unfit for admission, I decided to move on to other career paths. I am now a registered civil engineer so all is good now for me. 😄

It was also my dream to join the PMMA. My dad did not approve because I was then a very skinny kid but he eventually gave me permission to apply. Unfortunately, I was deemed unqualified during the physical exam. It was where I found out that I have color blindness. I never even knew before that. It was a major disappointment for me.
I ended up taking and completing a BS in Computer Science degree and then worked as a systems developer. The good thing is that I really also enjoyed that kind of work and had a good career.

I belonged to PMMA batch 1985. Unfortunately I did not finish the school. I was suspended for a year for answering the test questions for my classmates. I had a chance to go back but I chose not to because I was immigrating to the US. Though I joined the US Navy, I regretted that I didn't finish the school in PMMA. After the Navy I joined the US merchant marine as an unlicensed engineer. I was accepted due to my Navy experience. I eventually able to pass the 3rd engineer licensure after completing 1,080 seatime. I'm now 57 I hope I can still make this as a second career.

Undergoing such training develops a certain kind of dedication that is difficult to achieve outside of a military type training. Few will understand the logic of subjecting oneself to such procedures, but for those who underwent such trainings or similar ones, know, that what we learned, will always be a solid foundation for our lives. Watching this makes me long for those times when I was a cadet. Albeit it was in highschool, and in the rotc. I was never able to pursue that aspect of my life, as I took my college degree in the premiere state university in our country. But I will always look back the days when I was a cadet in Highschool, and in the ROTC as part of the SSB and MP. The physical and metal hardships we went through during those times, helped in shaping me as a person. And if fate would allow, and in another lifetime, I will pursue that career. For a part of me yearns to be in that setting, a regimented life, thanks Chief Makoi for proviing a glimpse of cadet life. And even though it might seem tough, hard and exhausting, it surely builds character. Something one will carry with him/her for the rest of theirs lives.

There's a lot of room for improvement. But there are a lot of challenges in implementing them as well. First and foremost is the budget. I've spent 2 years as Professor and Disciplinary Director in PMMA so I know first hand how difficult it is to work in a government-run institution. I'm proud to say that during my time, I have made a lot of improvements in policy and Leadership and Discipline training.

Thank for your useful documentary film. It gives a lot knowledge to me.
At present, i am a Marine & Cargo Surveyor in Vietnam. I meet many cadet, C.O, C. E and Captain officer from Philipines, Myanmar but i've never heard they told their stories. I don't know it really discipline and tough from the begining like that. Really hat off all of you.
By the way, can i have a question, why the probe must Stand up straight and face thier face to the sky ? Can you help me to explain that? This is the first time i see this gesture

Work hard vs. Work smart. I go for the latter. :)

Chief makoi, binibawi ko na yung sinasabi ko sa video Chief. Yung sinabi ko na"hindi na siguro babalik" was my simple thought saying "I'm still thinking" Chief. Probationary midshipmen Buendia and Gonzales will be back Chief. After a month, I thought it would be as easy as forgetting that you failed the short quiz at class but then it was too far from that. I did have regrets that I failed and I can no longer afford spending more time thinking about it. I want to be part of the long blue line. See you soon Chief.
