    Thank you!! I was about to ship mine back to Radioddity. Time to get back on the air!

    thanks! I used to have a screwdriver antenna on the BMW motorcycles. Icom 706 mkii with the radio base in the back and the front zip tied to the windshield base. However even a smooth 4 banger has frequencies to vibrate the radio into no sound! After 2 times to Watertown, SD for a repair company, I decided with the tech that the radio would not go back on the BMW. Well over 100,000 miles for the Icom on 3 different beemers. Xiegu g90 has taken over the tank bag. Then getting into digital and finally seeing signals on WSPR now I have a small computer, inovato quadra and hopefully get those bugs figured out!
    Happy New Year!

    Hello, holy mackerel what an AhHa moment!
    I had the Exact! same thing happen to me last week with my new g90, As I'm trying to learn about all the menus in this sdr radio I somehow must have inadvertently got it into split mode and I had the same exact issue, what I did until I figured it out was set both VFO's to the same frequency so at least I could transmit and receive on the same frequency, it took me a couple of hours of TH-cam videos and G90 cheat sheets from online until i stumbled on to what I had done.
    Man I was scratching my head hard for a couple hours!! lol
    Enjoying your ham station startup over video, as I'm in the same boat. We just moved back to our home state of Idaho in retirement, and am trying to set up a little home ham shack all over again, with hoa restrictions and Attic dipoles, joys of ham radio! lol Best of Luck in Poland!!!😊

    Thank you for this, it is very useful. I have had my G90 for six weeks operating mainly mobile using Ampro antennas - 20 and 40 meters. I've had a couple of those panic 'what have I done' moments and said 'flip' or similar several times. It's probably soon I'm going to inadvertently slip into split mode and wobble again. It's a great radio, I really like it but it gets so warm.

    Thanks for taking the time to record and share this video. Now I know what to do if ever I fumble-finger my way to "split mode..." :)
    My shack consists of an IC-7300 on my desk and a full-sized G5RV at around 60' center, and 40' at the ends forming an inverted-V.
    Mobile is an FT-857D and an ATAS120 trunk lid mount. It also has a battery box and LiPO4 which will run the rig for about 6 hours.
    Portable operations are done with a Xeigu G90, and a 100-watt external linear amp and bandpass filters which will suppress signals from bands not in use. I also bought the GSOC large touch-screen control head but haven't had the time to try it out yet.
    Since I live within the boundaries of the Hot Springs National Park, I could easily run a POTA every day if I felt so inclined! :-}

      I did that day 1 with my new G90. my first HF rig, tech class, I was on 10m and somehow mashed the split button and was unknowingly calling on 40m. oops.

    Very interesting video. I have many ham radios including the FTDX101D and the G90 is one of my favorites. So flexable and with the 20W out can be used in so many situations. Ive used it in the mobile and have had contacts to europe while driving on 10M.
    Your video also shows the challenges that an american ham faces while moving to Poland. I would raise your antenna higher off the ground if possible. Keep up the good work and let us know how you make out. 73.

    hello my friend and welcome in Poland ! I returned to ham radio after over 45 years. I prefer CW and i was surprised after years to find out that my " personal codec"installed in 1970s was revived and with some problems but it works. I bought a XIEGU G 90 and I made a HF20a antenna. Last year I have some interesting contacts on CW with Hams from K to VU . It is great low budget(and dimensions hi!) equipment and I am glad that brings you a lot of satisfaction! VY 73! I was all set to buy an FT-818 just before Yaesu discontinued them so not expecting any more made in Japan QRP rigs (the 705 doesn't interest me). This model seems to be the best way to go. They just dropped the price under 400. Radioddity has some great bundle prices now. I checked out the factory online and was pretty impressed with the setup.

    ….. Friend, I’m in the same boat as you! All of a sudden
    what was working - was NOT
    working. I lost about two days to downtime. Nothing
    worked. Things looked right, but something didn’t quite look 👀 right.
    I started researching…. Everywhere On YT that I could think of. I even😢 lookedat Radioddity, where
    I purchased my radio from.
    I finally found a vid that said to look for a little up and down arrow on the left side between the upper and lower freqs. I followed directions to clear split mode and Bingo-Bango!

    I had a problem with my G90, that I do not know why it happened: i was using the antenna tuner on 28.400 Mhz with a magnet mount antenna that I had sitting on top of a large metal file cabinet. I had used this antenna before, and used the tuner antenna tuner with it before with no problem. But this time, as it began tuning for the antenna, there was a very, very loud tone coming out of the radio speaker!
    The volume control had no afect on the sound. when the antenna tuner finished tuning, the sound quit. I then used the Antenna SWR sweep function, and again, the speaker was emmiting a very, very loud, deafening tone that did not quit as long as the sweep was going on! I quit the sweep and the sound went away.
    I checked all my settings, trying to see if I had something set very high, like Rf Gain, transmit power, etc. I could not find any setting that seemed to be causing this. I turned RF Gain and Power down.
    I had only been listening for traffic on various bands, and had not transmitted with the radio. The radio was a little warm, but no way would say it was hot. i tried the antenna tunner and sweep again with same results: extremely loud tone from speaker.
    I knew something was wrong with the radio, so i disconnected the power from the 12 V battery i was using, and disconnected the antenna, in preparation for sending it back to Amazon. The next morning I decided I should document with a video, what the radio was doing, so I could send Amazon that information if they needed it for the return authorization. I hooked everything back up, and when I ran the Antenna Tuner and the SWR sweep: everything was normal! no loud tone from the speaker! not knowing what was wrong, I still returned the radio to Amazon. I cannot think of anything that I could have done to cause this. Voltage to radio was within specifications, and antenna was tuned to the frequency before hand.

    I've owned G-90's for several years now and love them. I had two and a friend talked me out of one of them. I still use my 3yr old G-90 for digital with the XPA-125 amp. I used it at Field Day 3 years ago and accidentally ran it below 12v and it locked up. Radioddity customer support gave me the solution and it's still working fine today. I had to send my amp back for repair once and they paid postage both ways and fixed it and got it right back to me. I also had a DMR HT that suddenly stopped working after 2 yrs and they replaced the entire radio with a newer model. Who does that these days? I almost bought another G-90 during this last sale and might when they go back on sale. Advice to new owners... keep them cool. They tend to run warm to hot. The fan base helps. EFHW antennas accept bends in the wire and still work. I build and use 49:1 transformers exclusively and have an NVIS setup around my wood fence and a number of friends use my antennas in their setups. Good luck.

    I too have a G90, but I've been trying to make my first contact with my 817 on QRP! Been using the Chameleon F-Loop but under a metal roof, not having any luck getting it resonant w/o a tuner? I am also flying solo, no Elmer here either, just videos and books! One topic at a time!!! Getting ready to cross the CW / Morse code line !!!

      I don't have any experience with a loop antenna. Being under the metal roof will present problems. Locating near a window could help. There is a lot of info on homebrew antennas out there. Good luck. 73

    • @macgyver5108
      @macgyver5108 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yikes... 😳That metal roof is not only blocking nearly ALL your RF signal from going anywhere up and out into the ionosphere or anywhere else very far, but it's also _BOUNCING_ that RF signal right back into your own body if you're also in the same area! ☠The roof also blocks any signal from getting IN too as well as causing induction in your system and bad SWR... Antenna rules 101: mount them _outdoors_ if possible, on a higher level by a few feet or far enough away from any big chunks of metal (even metal roof gutters/metal flashing) and high enough above any people, pets or living quarters so you don't slowly cook yourself or give the neighbor's cat RF burns depending on the RF exposure calculation tables for that setup. Good thing the G90 is only 20W max, but still enough to cause health problems if you're practically "sitting" in a faraday cage with it on for very long.

      I bought the x6100 last week, after being happy with my g90 for 2 months. I love them both. You only want to connect an external speaker to the x6100 to boost the audio because the internal speaker is somewhat weak, but seen the size of the thing it's understandable.

    I bought 2 g90 radios from people who didn't understand how to use this radio which I'm still trying hard to figure out ! First setup came with everything,amp ,power supply, fan , interface etc for $700 and second one radio and fan $370.00 new in the box. Ask around,there out there. If you brick it, you can un brick it doing firmware update. Keep it stock unless you need to fix a problem, update will change what some buttons wwill do , which confused me trying to learn everything. Hope this helps ! AA2BD 73

    Just for reference "XIE"-GU is pronounced with a hard Z as in Zion, so Zi-goo. _ANY_ time you coil up "extra" wire or coax anywhere in the feedline or antenna it creates an inductor coil in the antenna and can wildly alter your SWR and performance. Split mode ("SELF DESTRUCT MODE") is used ALL the TIME for long range DX and especially in noisy conditions, so you can _call_ for "CQ" on _one_ frequency and LISTEN for replies on a slightly higher or lower one, same idea as with local 2m repeaters having an input/output freq or even contacting with the ISS out in space using 2m/70cm for I/O freqs.😉

    • @steviejanssen
      @steviejanssen ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, beeing a ham since 1989 I've been thru quite a number of Yaesu and Kenwood radios, and I must say that Yaesu isn't all that great for what you pay, I think that all of those Yaesu's I owned, any one of them at least once had to go thru their horrible service at one point. I never had problems with Kenwood, and I can't talk about Icom because I never had one because they were/are not so avaliable here as Yaesu.
      I bought a Xiegu G90 a month or 2 ago, and I'm so happy with it that I bought the X6100 as well for QRP operation on the go.
      Wonderful little radio, by the way, this little X6100.
      The thing is that for the price of an Icom or Yaesu, you can buy 2 or 3 Xiegu's, and they offer a great service and support community.
