******* I just bought this Radio from Amazon and just learning all the buttons and features, and I came upon this Video !! a BIG THANK YOU !!...I have a Ham and GMRS license but always love new Tricks, like adding "CB" to a radio :-) :-) **********
It's a great transceiver, I've used it for a while and it's performance and functions are really good, quality of build is brilliant and ease of use too... Great radio, and turning it down to 5 Watts qrp, I've worked all over the world... Great video.
you may not realize it but doing what you're doing, being a Video-Gate in your skip clips videos, is cutting edge use of technology/radio and it is inspiring. Thanks for making all of your content.
I want to add external speakers to my Xiegu G90 transceiver. What relatively inexpensive brand of speakers would you suggest? I was under the impression that external speakers would not work with this transceiver. I found this video extremely informative!
Great Video John, I got one on my bucket list. I heard you a few days back on 38lsb. You were busier than a one-legged man at an ass-kicking contest. I tried but you must have had half a hundred calls for you. LOL. Thanks again for the review of the radio. Always helpful. Have a great day 73s from Northern NY202.
Most ham rigs are fairly well designed, meaning there's a reason for everything. The heat they are worried about here is from the 20 Watt RF output stage, especially if it's being used in a digital mode with a high transmit duty cycle. Those RF transistors are probably heat-sunk to the bottom plate.
@@bobdillashaw4360 fm is totally different platform and trans recv are in complete different fashion A lot of the " newer " DX radios come with FM already to go some my locals ( as well as me) have the FM band radios the background noise is almost nill no matter the conditions very clean but there is no pep carrier or nothing
Got one of these radio really love it, had it about 6 months, i opened it up so i could use it on 11 meters. Works great for both hf and cb. You can see this being used on my youtube channel.
I'm thinking of getting that radio they sound pretty good on the air are you happy with that radio so far and I think I can run that with a linear by just turning down the wattage of the radio how low can the wattage go looks like the Mars Mars is very simple on that radio very easy to do
It's a good radio, But I think the receiver is to noisy. the mars mod is very easy to do, just remove the diode with the big white arrow next to it. I don't use the AM mode, so I don't know how it performs on AM. I am not impressed with the build quality of this radio, when I removed the case screws they pulled the threads out with the screws, so I had to use over sized screws to put it back together. in the end I think you would be better off to buy a used Kenwood, Icom or yaesu for the same money and you'll have a much better radio.
I have one of these and love it. But about the add on fan. When I run mine on a power supply at 13.8v, the top of the radio gets smoking hot after time. Like, really hot. I bought one of the fan/stands. It was an open box item at HRO for $45. It keeps the radio, even the top, extremely cool. I don’t know how since the fan is on the bottom, but it works very well. When I run the radio on battery, it never really gets very warm and I don’t use the fan/stand, I just use some 3d printed legs to hold the front up.
Mine was stopping a lot when scrubbing through frequencies, but after the update it rarely does that and often recovers by itself, earlier I needed to restart it as the interface for cganging frequencies was clearly stuck. They cleaerly have bugs in software and there has been no updates for months. The update took adjustments for a waterfall display, it is now always on auto it seems. And preamp looks like is working differently. Or they just changed how rf gain feels. I cant get less noisy receive like I get on old yeasu 857D by turning down the gain. It might be just very noisy receive on g90 or the software on it is still not ok. They also messed up AM broadcast receive previuosly with an update, lol. All that display is really a treat, when you can see some part of the band. I use my other radios less, because having visual is so nice! I wish I could go wider thogh for seeming signals, like using rtlsdr for example, as most often cant see all the band I want when hunting for signals
I was thinking on getting one this weekend then I ran into your vd, which pretty much sealed the deal. By the way, after the mod of removing the diode, what specific freq were added to the radio? Thank so much for all the info you share in your VDs.
Question... Is there a way to program memories in this radio, and if so, can you program them with Alpha-Numeric tags? Such as the CB channels 1-40 and the "A" channels also? I remember a few of the various channels like 27.195 is actually the 19A or "RC" channel for radio control devices back in the day. But for those who don't want to have to rely on memory, that would be good if it were available. PS - if you wanted to get your HAM Radio license, check out HAM Radio 2.0 channel. I went through the General Class videos for about 3 months in 2021 and got my General Class license just by cramming every other night for 3 months. They've got the Technician Class "classes" as well. I'm slowly working on my Extra Class, too, now. Just wanted to throw out some encouragement because you're obviously very intelligent, it would be very easy for you to go through and get licensed as a General and then you'll have access to not only 10m voice and then 50MHz and up, but also the full range of worldwide HAM "Shortwave" bands as well. Zach, N2JZS A.K.A. "Salty City Firefox" - 1995
I have alot of trouble finding information about the dimensions of the unit while the display is detached... it all takes into account while the head unit is directly plugged in. Please help? :(
I love mine. It is a great QRP transceiver. Works well out the box. I do use mine with a pair of amplified computer speakers. It sounds much better. Have a great weekend. 😊
John the waterfall format on that radio is for digital. PSK-31 Phased frequency keying. IT is used on the ham bands. That sounds like a sdr HF radio. Just be careful to stay within the bands you are on.
XFC button.. When you are operating on a repeater and monitoring the receive frequency, if you press the XFC button, it lets you monitor the INPUT/TRANSMIT frequency.. That's what the XFC button does on the Icom anyway. (Don't quote me on that though)
Nice review. F.Y.I. WPM in the key menu. is Words per minute .. For C.W. Morse code.. I live in Thailand . I sit outside my home on a evening using this radio with a 2 pill amp maybe 250w pep and talk to Northern Europe and the USA on a regular basis.. On 20m and 40m
Don't forget to check at just before sunrise and also just before dark which is called the GRAY LINE for the incoming worldwide skip? For New Zealand remember their channel 1 is 26.330 and above on the 0s, not the 5s. If you remember to try this at those times you are subject to hear anywhere in the world and if barefoot, the built-in tuner on this rig will tune your beam about anywhere between 25 megs and 31megs. It may be a little while before the worldwide skip starts but it will and my friend you are ready now to work the world. And yes if you just buy the book, make a flask card of the questions on one side and the correct answer on the back, just reviewing these flashcards a few hundred times, missing an answer here and there, you can remember the 75 percent it takes to get your ticket.
But does it have TalkBack LOL it will probably take me a while to learn how to run that one you got a pretty nice collection over there pretty impressive 73 S420 Ohio standing by

Too small. Couldn't help saying that. Makes me think of that guy in Canada somewhere that says he's talking on a "Fisher - Price" radio. I'm a little bit tired of hearing him say that too. Good video. 330 Rubber City (Akron, Ohio).

Thanks for the info

One other question how how does the radio sound on AM
What do you think about fm cb radio coming to the us? We already had that since the 1980s here in the netherlands
