Every radio manufacturer needs to read the room and install powerpoles in their new radios, since every ham out there pretty much mods their radios for powerpoles or builds cables for powerpoles.
G90 on the beach, fresh seafood, local beer, hard to imagine a better day. I think I need to plan a trip to Rhode Island! Thanks Walt... keep them coming!
Tempting me to get one. And as one ham tuber says, "If you're lost in the middle of the desert, set up an antenna. Someone will come walking through it within 10 minutes!"
Just got a notice that my very first G90 has been shipped! Can't wait to get it and give it a try. I ordered after seeing how much you enjoy using yours, Walt.
Guy with the metal detector reminded me of a recent experience I had a park. 😂 First, maintenance almost ran over over coax and counterpoise with the lawnmower then I had a couple gather around it with their dog. I need to start bringing my little collapsible traffic cones again.😂
I’ve had several Xiegu. My g90 is the one I’d never sell. Now I guess I’ll have buy the new g90. Love my Xiegu x6200, but g90 is still better. Thanks for the video.
Well, since I did not get a G90 earlier, fair game to get one now! Thank you, Walt! Needed this video. We (Pinellas County, Fl.) are looking at a Cat 4 (Cat 5 as I type) headed our way. Antennas are down, yet again and the home is boarded up. Here we go again!! -73 KQ4KIO Talmadge...
Walt, I took mine out last Saturday. 17 ft wire on my Crappie pole with 3 counterpoise. I made contact with a Net in Illinois from Western NY. Then I realized I never turned the power power up! I contacted on just one watt! I love this radio already! Dan KE2CYV
I’ve had the G90 for 4 years now. It is my Pota radio. It works great in the mountains at 3k in elevation in Pa or in Florida and the Dry Tortugas National Park. It turns every wire or homebrewed vertical antenna I hooked to it. KC3PMX Greg
Aloha Walt, I truly loved your live stream earlier today, late morning here in Honolulu. First time a live stream that wasn’t at 2-3am HST. My Vietnamese wife is a really great chef and I ❤ her Salmon dishes. I’ve missed her so much for the past week as she and all of her childhood friends are touring Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Salt Lake City for their high school reunion. So Walt, I bought my first G90 about four years ago from bd7-Maple on eBay and then I bought a second G90 used one earlier this year from a fellow soldier station on JBPHH. It has an updated firmware as compared to my older G90 but doesn’t have the Anderson PP connectors but did come with the mounted fan tray. The G90 is just a super easy radio to set up and get onto the air, plus the SWR Meter and built in tuner is fantastic! ❤ So as a project, I bought the manpack kit for the IC-705 from the same eBay seller bd7-Maple, whose name is Frankie, speaks perfect English, moved back to mainland China to take care of his mom over a year ago. I’ve been buying transceivers from Frankie for almost two decades now. I learn a lot from your videos because we both have the oceans to our advantage and I learn tricks about antennas and counterpoises from your videos. ❤❤❤ Todd de WH6DWF 73’🇺🇸
Your videos make me regret selling my G90. I have a Yaesu 891 and decided I'd keep that for my POTA activations. Your food stops after your radio time on the beaches are really great. I usually find a place that serves food and beer after I do an activation in my area to do my logging. Love your videos and hope things are getting better for your wife. Steve, k7ofg.
Video started out, I hope you wouldn’t see any differences, wanted to see if it was a good as the old one. Glad to see it worked well right of the box.
Nice work. I got one a week ago and hooked it up to a 'new' diy 17 meter vertical dipole at 28 ft peak built from the parts of two old tv antennas and QSLed Trinidad off Venezuela coast at 18 watts at 5x7 2750 mi from MO. He had a multiband vertical at same height and 300 watts. Then I fried a celabratory 'pigsicle' (candied porkchop) on George Foreman grill.
Good to see the out of the box settings performed well. Oh the joys of trying to see displays in bright sunlight. Wouldn't it be great to have one that was full color indoors but have a switch to display like a Kindle when you're outside!
Walt, I have a G90 myself and love it. I've learned a ton from you thanks. You're a bad influence. Now I want a second G90! I'm envious of the power pole connector.
Well, well, your numerous videos have convinced me to pull the trigger and buy one of these! It's on the way from Radioddity. The guy with the metal detector, and your comments, LOL!😂 You seem like a great, happy guy, I'd love to have a beer with you!
Hello Dennis - That's great to hear, you will have great fun with it. I use mine mobile with on OPEK multiband mobile antenna and get great results all-round. I have my mic gain set at 12 or15 and use the audio compressor and I get very good audio reports. On CW the G90 is great. 73 de Ger
Excellent, the upgraded software on my G90 was a great improvement. Just passed my full exam; will be taking my g90 and a power adapter to run it from a hire car next month from San Diego. M0NMT
I too have the updated G90 with the power pole connection and updated firmware and I LOVE IT!!! I purchased the G90 because of watching your channel. The tuner will tune anything! 73 Chris VA3COJ
I had a G90. It worked great. Never should have parted with it but got the 'itch' to get something different. Sure miss it but I'll have another eventually.
Great video Walt! I was able to run my G90 the first time right out of the box. I think the biggest difference between your old G90 and the new one is that the filter control is different. You can't control the left and right sides independent of one another on the latest firmware. If you old G90 was firmware 1.73, the new firmware had digital USB and LSB settings. I've been making contacts all over Europe on 10-meters. Have fun with the new G90. I'm going to buy a second on at some point because I love this radio so much. I broke through some big pile-ups on Sunday and my contact were surprised that I was running 20 watts and a wire antenna. You can't beat the built in tuner. Thanks again...73...Hugh...KN6KNB
Another great video with two of my favorite topics, radio and food. I had a good Sunday on the low end of 10m to California from Maine. Thank you for your videos. KC1TWE. Have a great day.
HI Walt, congratulations on the 2nd G90. I still have my G90, it was one of the first that came into the UK. I am in the process of putting together my next Enthusiastic Steve TH-cam video, it includes a shout out to you and your channel as i know many over this side of the pond have yet to discover you and your channel of great content. All the best Steve M6WVV aka Enthusiast Steve south UK
Hi Walt. That is a great update. Glad the new G90 is working well. You do indeed have a lot of background noise / QRM / buzzing! I would have thought that being on the coast, away from things, might have been a bit quieter ! Great work though. 73, Mike.
Just got my first g90 about 2 weeks ago and have been using it on a 17ft whip like you did in the video. It has been great for me as a newbie in the POTA world. I will say the ATU in the g90 will match it on 40 and I may a few contacts, and it will match on 80 but with all the losses no one cod hear me. Glad you are enjoying your 2nd g90 as I am enjoying my first. Take care.
I don't think it's "loss" on 40 and 80 as much as it's low efficiency from using 1/16 of a wavelength on 80m. Try taking about 53-55ft of wire and clipping it to the top of your 17ft whip and running it as an inverted L or a sloper. Thats about the 71ft of a common "random wire" and it may work a little better on the lower bands for you if you ever wanted to do nvis.
Glad the new G90 is working out for you, I will be interested to know if there are any major differences between the new and old model because I have a 2020 model G90, still in its box unopened, due to health issues but I'm now well enough to unwrap and use it. I love the non-radio pieces which are entertaining, informative and gives a more complete picture of your operating conditions. Do some radio, then do some bites and beer... perfect day!
Walt I've been waiting for you to do more on 40 meters so I can talk to you from NY while you're up in RI! 20 is right in my skip zone for your QTH. 73 bud

S glad the new g90 works so well. I hope the guy with the metal detector found a treasure. I’m going to get some seafood this month. My birthday was the 4th, wanted some then but wife wanted pizza. She’s disabled so she gets the say-so.😁
