Could Warcry Bring "Mordheim" Back In Spirit - Skaven Vs Mercenaries For New Age Of Sigmar?

- Some rumours swirling around the internet are concerning a new edition of Warhammer Age Of Sigmar Warcry and the possibility that it could well turn into a spiritual successor to Mordheim. Whilst it wouldn't be the original game, it could bring back the Human Vs Skaven dynamic and fit into the new edition of Warhammer Age Of Sigmar very well. What do you make of the ideas and would you dive in?

Would you like to see Games Workshop pit the Cities Of Sigmar and some "mercenaries" against the Skaven as they threaten to overrun a Dawnbringers Crusade city? Do you think it would make for a good new set for Warhammer Age Of Sigmar Warcry?

To paraphrase a well known saying : isn't every model is a Mordheim model? I know I'd like to use the Inquisitorial Agents Kill Team as a basis to a Cult of the Possessed warband.
That would be a great idea :)
After cursed city came out my miniature collection took a slant into the grim dark aos direction.
What id love to see; in Hollow King the main city is a ruined elven settlement with ramshackle human wooden buildings Ooo and eternally reincarnation ravens that are the undead residents of this certain underworld.....lots of bird bones everywhere
I do like Cado Ezechiar first book - it is properly awesome and made me want to get the mini! There are some great grimdark vibes in the mix for AoS at the moment that's for sure.
As someone who is just now looking at getting into Warcry/AoS I have to say that I love the look and feel of Mordheim (don't know anything specific about the gameplay) and would be very tempted to buy in if I could play in that environment.
Yeah I think it would do really well. It could create an interesting new environment for future Warcry campaigns
I have no interest in AoS but a real spiritual successor to Mordheim (campaign focused rather than match play focus) would immediately get me interested in the game
Indeed - I think it would get a lot of folks intrigued in The Mortal Realms
Mordheim was one of the few GW games I didn't buy into. Been waiting for them to bring it back.
It will be interesting to see if it comes back in some form
@BecauseOfDragons There was another GW TH-camr who semi-predicted next version of WarCry would be Urban based. Then speculated it could be mordheimish.... her name was "something" Howl. Think first name started with a D. I listen while working so I miss some things.
wild corp hunters and the underworlds hexbanes are my new witch hunter war band...great looking team
Great choices :)
Mordheim was a product of its time, coming out in 98/99 with Y2K looming and all the questions and doubt that had. These days, play Frostgrave or Warcry. I’d enjoy some city terrain for Warcry and some city fighting rules, but see no need for a completely new game.
Oh yeah - it would just be Warcry but it would be a change of setting to give that "feel" of Mordheim without actually bringing it back.
It would be cool if GW added city fighting rules to Warcry and released some plastic houses to go along with it. The OPR rules for City Fight, and Command Points could work great in Warcry.
It would be very cool indeed - I think it could be a neat nod to Mordheim indeed. Will have to check out those OPR rules you mentioned
@@BecauseOfDragons agreed, if you do check out the opr adv rules remember you don't need to turn on every advance rule section, you can pick and chose what you want to add to the base game without breaking the game.
OPR?

@@BecauseOfDragons oh all these acronyms leave me lost. I am pondering mordheim or something like that. But is it not too late ?
I think it is nearing the mandatory time for GW to republish the game to retain copyright regarding the name of a game needs to be in use every so many years lest it slip out of trade and become publicly available. Heroquest in spain is a perfect example of this.
Anyways, judging by the great work they have done combining the best elements of mordheim and MESBG into titles such as the "Legends of the..." series, I would be intrigued enough by a mordheim redux to pursue that even though warcry is my only GW game I involve myself in. Mostly because I am sure I could easily transpose models back and forth between the games.
Regardless of whether they do it or not, the new skaven coming out will make a perfect opportunity to recreate mordheim using warcry if one were so inclined. The campaign system isnt as meaty as mordheim, but is no slouch either, with many various scenarios to explore to get that mordheim flavor.
But until GW start releasing terrain again that was at least as good as the azyrite stuff for warcry and AoS, then we will have to rely upon third party stuff. But considering how awesome 3d printed terrain is nowadays, it may be best to go that route regardless of what GW does or does not produce.
Yeah I am hopeful that something good comes out of this and as you say, the Skaven will be perfect for good ol' Mordheim anyway! I am very tempted by a 3D Printer just for terrain purposes to help fill in the gaps within my collection.
Some form of tie in to Mordheim around October this year for the 25th anniversary wouldn't be a huge surprise. They'd want to focus people onto boxed warbands rather than conversions as that is more their thing these days. Still would be cool to see.
That would be a good idea - I imagine we will indeed see something specifcally themed if this idea turns into something but yeah, eager to see what's on the horizon.
I remember some hope early on that Warcry could be Mordheim for AoS, but was more locked down, and perhaps basic, to help balance the game. It's possible the next edition will move closer to Mordheim in feel, but I'll be surprised if we get something like Necromunda or the original Mordheim. They'll want to make the game as open as possible to the AoS factions, and that will require a degree of simplicity.
All that said, I am interesting to see what they come up with. Warcry has become a way to release new units outside of the usual release schedule (like Kill Team) and that's always a good thing.
Yeah I think it'll be primarily focused on Skaven Vs Cities Of Sigmar to begin with in the "new edition" set if they make one. From there they will open it up to the idea of the other factions vying for control of a shatterd/ruined Dawnbringers Crusade city I would guess - give the Mordheim feel but without it being too limiting.
@@BecauseOfDragons the key to success will be if it comes with a good campaign system. The old tree structure was okay for Chaos warbands, but they'll need something more robust for games fighting over a city.
Would need more fish!
They are doing some fun things with Gargoylians so you never know!
Yes, next question haha no but seriously I intend to use the warcry hunters and the underworlds warband for witch hunters in mordheim!
Great idea - they work so well, especially with the doggos!
It never left.
Very true of course (and I've continued to play it since it was created and all through the intevening period after it's "death"!) but I mean within the context of something more "official" from GW in this case
