Love this review. It sounds like the Lance has supplanted the Aetos as the best value at the $200 price point, which says a TON! The Aetos is such a nice casting rod at pretty much all the practical fishing distances. You gave this rod very high marks for accuracy; you did also for the Greys GR80. From a pure performance standpoint, which do you prefer? Thank you in advance!
I am looking for an 8 wt for streamer fishing. I am between this greys lance and an echo lift. I have a greys streamflex that i love, and i bought it based on one of your great reviews. Any recomendations? thank you!
I am British and greys is a fantastic manufacturer and has a great name and reputation in the U.K. it’s owned by its big brother company Hardy and everyone knows who they are and for good reason. Make some of the best rods and reels Money can buy.
@@Tridentflyfishing I use the GR60 range and have 2 of them. I’ll be picking up a Lance for sure. I was considering pairing it with a fin cassette reel unless you have an idea if a Lance reel is in the pipeline? All my tackle is greys and I have 2 GTS600 Reels and a QRS cassette reel
As always, Ben provides another great review. Bought a 3 weight thinking it was made in S.Korea. The tag says it is made in China. Thinking of returning it to Trident.
I'm stuck between the Grey's lance and the hardy aydon single hand, was gonna get a 6# aydon and then 3 Lance's 5/6/7# is the hardy quality worth it? 1 6# do it all or 3 sperate cheaper rods 🤔
Ben, this is a great review. Simply because it shows that low priced rods can deliver a great caster. However the whole scoring system shows it's weakness here. Too much emphasise on looks, components, etc. which gives a misbalanced view on what is really important like how does it feel when casting, how accurate is it. Maybe you should consider bunching them separately.
Components and build quality are important factors to a lot of anglers, so it's something we have to take into consideration. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment!
@@Tridentflyfishing I don’t think cosmetics aren’t important but if you put those points separate from the casting points, rods that are exceptional casters can stand out rather than disappear in the rating between nice looking rods that have mediocre casting abilities
Do you really need a £120 line to bring out the best in it? Can you not recommend other lines that will match or bring out the best in this rod at a cheaper price?

Greys rods look very nice! Never casted one but sure I will like to.
You need to get your hands on a Lance!

Actually they are both owned by an American company, along with Fenwick Shakespeare and a bunch of other stuff.
great vid like always , thank you.
Glad you are enjoying the content!
Greys Lance Vs the prior GR80, what do you think???

Is the Lance made in china? 😢
Will you be reviewing the Lamson Velocity or Radius rods?
Not as of this time. So many rods out there that it's tough to get to each model
Would you say the Grey's Lance is a better all-purpose trout rod than the Fenwick Aetos?
I wonder if it's the old XF2.
What is the weight of the rod? Oz?

Tough choice! Have you had the opportunity to cast either one?
Thanks for the great review. Really helpful.
Thanks for watching, Drew!

I agree. Who buys a rod with a view to it's resale value?
Whats the best buy a gr80 streamflex for 300$ or the lance for 200$. Thinking about pairing one of them in 5wt up with a tital reel.
If you like a slightly slower rod go with the Lance
How many oz reel will balance this rod ? Thanks
Any 5wt reel will work fine
Compared to the Aetos, GR60 and GR80?
A little quicker than the Aetos and GR60. Maybe not quite the range of the GR80.

Mastery MPX
@@Tridentflyfishing so basically any line half size heavy?
@@trevorluft6032 yes
Can anyone recommend other 1/2 weight lines to use with these rods floating, midge tip, intermediate etc?
Just bought 9ft #5 and two 9ft6 #6
Man Ben you ripped T and T, Scott Sector and Loomis NRX more than you did with this rod. I’m confused 😮😂
Where are Greys fly rods made? In Korea or China? Thanks.
China
Same factory as the rest? Or do they all have their own specs and tolerance. If so I’ll just go with a maxcatch premier
