Another good video, cracking idea with the drive wheel/sprocket, just one. I’ve got 16years experience on armoured fighting vehicles and to future proof this you may need to look at something other than bolts for track links, we use a rubber bush with a central pin and even they generate considerable heat and wear. Also add rubber on the metal road wheels between the rim and the track or it will be a real teeth rattler and these will also generated a lot of head and wear through. When ours lose the rubber on the wheels they disintegrate the road wheel in no time coz of the heat of metal on metal.
Keep going through THOROUGHLY enjoying this build

There will be teeth rattling anyway in this design as there is no suspension and no belt tensioning :-)
But it will hopefully not go fast enough to require a visit to the dentist afterwards.
I bet it will be fun tought!

Having the opportunity to write comments isn’t an open invitation to criticise the work of others. Some of what is written below is a shameful disregard to someone who has a vision, a lot of skill and is prepared to have a go. If some you negative know-all’s channelled your thoughts and comments into constructive encouragement, who knows, this guy could be a great engineer some day

I also am proud of his dedication, but watching him attach a slip differential to a two-track tank was a gut blow ^_~
Also, as a machinist, imagining the weight distribution calculation and resulting deformation of a Steel V-threaded bolt into a crudely drilled thin-depth Steel "bearing bore" more than made me cringe, before I even had time to think about the resulting unfastening of the nut after the threads fail and bind.
I just wish I could lend him a hand. Poor chap is putting a ton of labor into this project!

@@IAintScaredOfNoGhost Yes you're right, it won't work but he needs to work through that and either find out the hard way or realise as he develops his plan what will work instead. As Edison famously said "I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work"

Very nice, but I think you need a track tensioner. Usually is done by allowing the return wheel to be moved back and forward, through a screw. You could probably get away by designing a special link, shorter or longer, wider gaps between 2 adjacent track links that would serve same purpose.
I believe your track tolerances between track and road wheels are a bit too tight. You will have dust, pebbles, tufts of grass, mud, etc adhere to the tracks, which will put a lot of strain on your wheels. Its possible that during use, those screw heads you used to attach the links will erode quite fast, allowing for some flexibility, but also you might lose some links. Time will tell.
Keep up the good work !

thanks for the video nice fabrication work. i feel your design has issues in track and suspension all those bolts are wear and failure points have a look at any heavy equipment on tracks or any tank out there the tracks are pinned .both for ease of maintenance and reliability as the joint is multi parted and more than one section of the joint can fail with the track continuing to function. i think i saw one wheel as tension adjustment for the track but no suspension on your road wheels ..it will be a stiff and rough enough ride as is more wear and failure also less steering control. hope to see you address thees issues for a superior design and final project thanks for the video

I would lock the differential by welding, split the rear axle and use two CVTs, one per track.
The CVTs need to be modified to be able to select the ratio manually.
Mount a steering wheel and select with the steering angle the ratios of both CVTs - in opposite directions.
You need a brake caliper per side and a master cylinder per side and you can mount a split brake pedal for the driver. This way you can brake one track completely, making very sharp turns.
The engine should have an RPM governor, so you select with your throttle just the desired RPM and the governor adjust the gas accordingly. This way you don't have to constantly adjust the throttle.
I would use an inverted throttle pedal, so when you don't press it, it goes to full throttle and when you press it you decrease the throttle down to idle. Additionally I would mount a lever on the dashboard which can adjust what the full throttle of the pedal is. This was you can set the engine to an optimal RPM by the lever and still react quickly by pushing the gas pedal if you hit something unexpected in the terrain.
The RPM governor will do the rest of work, so you can concentrate on steering and slightly adjust the desired RPM up and down by the lever in the dashboard.
Also 300 cc is way to small for this vehicle, go for at least 600 cc and 20 HP.

Observation: Using a "Automatic Centering Spacer Device" (like a pyramid shape) on the paddles you put on the wheels, to center the drive paddles in the slots will keep the tracks from binding so often.
The small Pyramids will also give your drive paddles more structural resistance to Torque, by spreading the load a little more.
    Translated to Croatian by Google

Im not gonna make fun of your voice or your method I'm instead gonna give so a tip. From an engineers standpoint the sprocket of the tank needs some more strength since it deals with most friction. Although grease helps with the friction and reduces the stress it won't last long. I say put 2 trapezoid pieces in between the teeth of the sprocket. You can do this since your guide horns on the track are on the outside. These trapezoids should keep your teeth on your sprocket from being pulled out of place. Good luck on your building. Making a tracked vehicle is a huge undertaking that most people don't understand the complexity of. The first tank didn't come from thin air and isn't still as simple as many may think of it, as primitive as it was. Good luck and don't let other people slow you down.

I hope you don't mind me sharing my opinion, but I see a problem in the design. Don't get me wrong the machine looks beautiful, and I wish you all the best luck and I hope the problem I'm about to point out doesn't actually manifest, but here is my concern: Now, in order for the tracks to work, those bolts cannot be too tight. In-fact, they will loosen as the tracks move. And due to vibrations and the sheer movement of the tracks, nuts and bolts will soon start to fall out. The good thing is that you have enough room on your bolts to put counter nuts. When two nuts are tightened against each other it'll be much more difficult for them to become loose and fall off. I'm guessing you already knew that and this is why you put longer bolts...
    Cheers! :)

      Definately.
His drive sprocket design is also quite unorthodox but I'll be very interested to see what he ends up doing there. That is one of the parts that wears really fast in a a tracked drive, together with the runners. It is also where the stress loads up.
We always split and joined the belts in the front, between the top wheel (often the tensioning wheel with rear wheel droven designs) and the front bottom runner. That way gravity helped with joining the segments. I guess his belts are pretty light compared to tank threads.
It is a fun build, and will probably not be driven that long, or in anger :-)

Заведомо не будет работать, либо будет очень плохо. Зубья неравномерные, очень плотно = будут перескоки, будет слетать на поворотах, будут заклинивания.

Impressive. Very impressive indeed. But what about friction/lubrication ? Also you'd better secure the nuts. Still impressive. :-)

I suspect those bolt heads on the inside of the track are going to be come a problem, when it comes to turning the "tank" under power and them catching the rims, plus the soft bolts will wear away quickly.
Using a mild steel flat bar to make a track is not a good idea, slight bends in them will make the track unusable. You are better of getting your hands on old spring steel, like leaf springs. Tracks are the most crucial thing on a tank, you can't drive the thing reliably and not get stuck without a good set.

Track pads on the bottom would make the tracks last longer and could be replaceable.....great work 👍👍

I think I would use to differentials because what you’re going to have is one track running while the other one is not running it’ll skew the left or the right depending on which track is driving Maybe chain drive both of them with a clutch system that will allow you to release one side or the other

Wow!! Very nice job you did there!! But still bothers me the fact that you didn't put suspension springs in the rear wheels bar. Anyways, you are rocking on this project!! Keep it on man!! Cheers from Brazil!
