Harbor Freight Computer Safe Logic Probe Automotive Test Light Review

  • Today we review the Harbor Freight Computer Safe Logic Probe by Cen-Tech. Is it just a Fancy Automotve Test Light or more? I will go through the features and details about this CenTech Logic Probe and show you how it works and how you can use it. It will help you diagnose electrical problems in your car, riding lawn mower, trailer, tractors and many more items from 6 volts to 24 volts. Before you pull out the big dianostic tools like scanners and so forth, first see if it may just be a small problem like a short, or broken wiring. That's what this tool is good for.

    Today we look at a simple yet very useful diagnostic tool. The Harbor Freight Computer safe logic Probe. It's better than a test light but just as simple to use. Do you have one? Have eyou ever used one? I'll show you how this puppy works and then you can decide if for less than $10 this is something you would like to add to your tool arsenal.

    Very good video - especially the fact that you stated it can “revert” to a standard test light by using only one connection.

    Thank you. Answered my question about needing to use both positive and negative. Great video and here's another sub.

    Man what a great review. Did not know which type of test light I needed to purchase, now I do. Appreciate the extra at the end to modify your connections. Keep it up.

    Great video. Helpful to know which side of the devices pass 12v or not. Didn't think of that.
    You also simply connect the cables to a long set of jump cables.

  • @sailson8612
    @sailson8612 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The best way to "EXTEND" the wires is to use jumper cables to the battery and then the logic probe etc to the jumper cables 🤙

    Definitely a winded video BUT you answered my question about do I have to use both clamps to use it or not and for that Sir I thank you 🙏🏼. I had to watch 4-5 other videos before I found yours and got my answer. I don’t make videos so you did much better than I could, thanks again 💪🏼👊🏼

      I made that video when I was just staring out as a content creator. I have definitely tightened up my presentation since then. Glad you enjoyed the video anyway.

      @@richroc7 No need to apologize my friend. I did not take any offense. I am not some silly snow flake that triggers at the slightest thing. Trust me I run into a lot of offensive comments on this platform and yours is far from offensive. I was merely agreeing with you. A smart man acknowledges his shortcomings and does his best to correct them. When I started my channel I was no where near as prepared when making videos as I am today. End result was that I would ramble a bit. Today I spend a lot more time preparing for when I turn on the camera and as a result I think my videos are more informative and definitely more concise. So no worries my friend. I hope I can make more videos that can be helpful to you in the future. Have a Merry Christmas. Cheers!!

    Excellent Video!!! Excellent Test Light. I like to Play It Safe when using a Test Light on a Vehicle.
    I Have One and its a Great Test Light. Straight Forward Operation - Please Read The Tester's Instruction Manual First!

    This is a test light. It is basically a yes or no test light made for low amp circuits.
    I am a professional auto tech, and I use mine daily. It is far quicker than dragging out a scope to look for low amp circuits. I have a Harbor Freight one and a Snap On one. They both do a good job.

    Good review. I almost took it back. It has no instructions. Decided to keep it once you showed me how it works. Confusing device though. I like how it has no battery or bulb to replace.

    I have the same ancient cheap probe, this one looks much better. I'm gonna keep it in the car along with some quality fuses.

  • @kevinhumphrey932

    There's a little more to this if you have powered relay circuit and probe the cold side of the fuse this tester will show a short to ground and there might not be a short to ground because the relay is back feeding the wire in order to check that circuit you need to remove every item that is on that particular circuit

      Just ran into this a day or two ago. Confusing at first so definitely something to watch out for with these types of probes.

    Does the clamp have to go on the metal part of the let's say positive battery terminal or can you just clamp it to the cable ? I found these don't open wide enough to clamp to the metal terminal

    • @ModernDIYProjects
      @ModernDIYProjects  ปีที่แล้ว

      It does not need to be directly on the battery terminal. It can be on any positive power source you find in the vehicle. That is why I suggested using the cigarette lighter as a source of power.

    can I connect this to another battery instead of using my car battery ? like I have a spare 12V 7AH battery that I can use.

    LOL I own one of these and I thought it allowed me to put power somewhere. Since it has a positive and negative clamp I thought I would have power at the end of the probe. Which I thought made no sense at all because certain things in the car don't take straight 12 volts so you would probably blow out half the shit trying to see if it wasn't getting power to the tail lights or whatever. I guess I should have read the instructions before I threw them away. Thanks a lot for the video I will be using this test like a lot more often. I don't think the one I got was a Harbor Freight brand but I imagine they're probably all the same

    The only problem with the LED test light is if the light goes out you can’t change the bulb !
    Then you will throw away money down the road.

    • @ModernDIYProjects
      @ModernDIYProjects  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You can always solder in a new LED but if you cannot, then it cost less than $10 for this light. Most people can afford to buy a new one at that price.
