You're a kind-hearted man helping us all get back to the roots of Blues Robert Johnson's fantastic I've never found anyone that could actually help me learn it until now
could not agree with you more; just right amount of explanation suggesting he knows his students/audience and doesn't go into explaining every little detail- great teacher
Fantastic lesson, thank you so much. I feel like I have learned more in the last 25 minutes than I have in the previous 25 years. You have got me addicted to the guitar once again, no more picking it up now and then, no more doing anything else, now that I can play this song the way that Robert Johnson played it I'll probably never watch the T.V. ever again. Thank you, God bless you.
Amazing how Robert Johnson was able to play with an element of percussion, bass, rythm, and lead, simultaneous in his playing making it sound like more than one person is playing, way ahead of his time
Tom, can't thank you enough for this lesson!! You've opened up my mind. I'm so grateful to all the talented black men who gave us a piece of their souls through their music & their culture!
I guess TH-cam is making me revisit songs I tried to learn back when I was struggling to get good on guitar .Glad to have learned this back in early 2016
I'm a bit late with my comment but here it is. I'm aghast anyone could "thumbs down" such an excellent free video lesson. It's obviously a "bread on water" exercise in creating interest in the DVDs but Mr Feldmann doesn't hold back and shares the techniques RJ uses in many of his pieces. He also does it very well. Some comments below refer to the feel of the playing and getting that across in a video is worthy enough. I've been playing/teaching for c40 years and I say this is bloody good. The only thing to add is that after learning someone else's interpretation of a RJ song, listen to the various takes available and hear the differences. It's about style not rote! And there aren't that many opportunities to hear alternative versions of the blues greats. Cheers.
Holy crap man!!!! I've listened to RJ's complete recordings at least once a week for the last 25 yrs, & been tryin to play these tunes for all those years, some I'm happy with like my Versions of the Spanish tuning songs, some I'm not so happy with ie: my versions of the standard tuned songs, I've bought quite a few books, audio lessons, & video lessons over the years. I got something from some, but very little from most. You have just nailed every sound in every bar of this tune!!
Thanks Greatly! It took me quite some time to get this song down and you were certainly right when you stated you learn this song and other Robert Johnson songs will come much easier. I just learned Love in Vain and it took like 2 nights...yee-haw! And that's really because or your teaching talents, thank you Mr. Tom Feldmann!!!
Great video. Great lesson. And free! Worth everyone's time to learn this song. So much goodness packed in just a few minutes. Thanks so much for putting this out there.
Just thought I would let folks know that Tom and Stefan graciously post these videos to help folks get a start on these styles and techniques. But please remember, ultimately they make part of their living selling their instructional videos. I have a half dozen including Tom's , Stefan's and John Miller's all from Guitar Workshop. They are all Excellent like this lesson. When you think of what you get compared to in person lessons the prices are extremely reasonable.
You just feel the blues. I hear people playing the guitar but I can tell they just read notes, You really feel it. I love to learn blues. Old style dirty blues.
I first learned figure style from stefans how to play blues vinyl. Now your together onthis supreme channel the two best teachers ever thanks. Recently got a martin d28 reimagined it goes with this channel and the lessons are priceless thanks again tom
Amazing. Thank you so much for sharing this. Having this up on here for free really means alot to the future of guitar. Keeping the roots alive will help the tree of music grow stronger. Please know that you have my utmost appreciation for sharing this knowledge. Can't wait to grease up these chops!!!!
Seriously, Robert Johnson sold his soul for this stuff and we get it for free... how can there be dislikes?
paul neale you get dislikes from soul-less Christians
+Francis Kane Or just by fuckin morons, mate. A lot of different people dislike things because their jealous, sad excuses for humans.
+paul neale Clever!
You're a kind-hearted man helping us all get back to the roots of Blues Robert Johnson's fantastic I've never found anyone that could actually help me learn it until now
