My pleasure!! Could spend a lifetime learning from RJ's stuff. Every time I revisit his recordings I pick up something I didn't hear before too. Appreciate you stopping by!
Just a wonderful lesson. Nice tabs! Late at night and early on in the day I'm fooling with Robt. Johnson's influences, so timeless! To hear you clear those harmonies up and explain the alternate timing then I play them on mine today... I sit and listen to my guitar singing back a little time in the room with Mr. Johnson and you! This was fun... thanks Kyle!
What a great lesson. I like the way you explain what he’s doing without sucking all the fun out of it. Clapton when asked how good RJ was said he feels like he needs another player with him to do them justice and the stuff he did with the vocals going in opposite to the chords is far out
Yes indeed! You didn’t get to the biggest difference between what is played and what HE played, the solo. Great stuff! Will plan to follow you on Patreon
The point is that if you talk like that too RJ he certainly be surprise, I don’t think he knew theory, more about transmission and feeling. Ì’m quite sure he never exactly play twice the same
Kyle I been playing for 5 years 90,% acoustic I'm recently started to try finger style. Is your patreon a good place for a beginner or would it be to advanced for me. I struggling with this style and I've searched online but can't find the way for me ...I thought I would ask, thank you
Hey Roger, to be perfectly frank, it’s probably more geared for the advanced, or for people looking for new insights. The main bulk of the content is tabs for my TH-cam videos and sharing history about rare records. That said! My big goal for the year is to offer an intro course to fingerstyle, geared toward the beginner/intermediate. And I wanna make it free. Soooo, look for that! As it develops I’ll share it here on TH-cam in videos.
@@isaiahneeposh2835 That's what I've always heard those symbols Kyle showed early in the video called. I grew up in a small town known for hobo traffic in its day.
Thanks!! Man i have been listening to alot of RJ and while yes it might sound repetitive the well of licks slide playing little chromatic movements and fills is pretty amazing 95 years later he is still an influence on alot of people that says alot
This is crazy I was coming home from gathering grocery's today and I was listening to the Eric Clapton version of kind hearted woman on the CD me and Mr. Johnson. That CD is in my top 10 favorite cds
No way, I love that! Right after I put this out the Washington Post put out that new bit in Mack McCormicks RJ collection. Must be something in the air!
John Fahey spent a lifetime meticulously copying/studying the Old Blues guy's tunes down to dropped bars/beats just like you did. Like I say - "Skip James probably had a hiccup or had to fart and dropped a beat". The difference between "Academics" and "Living" the Blues. But I do appreciate you noticing the details because that's where the beauty and uniqueness lie.
Dude! So my original idea for the tab was just to put "swing feel" at the top, but the amazing this about RJ is ability to go from straight to swung, measure to measure. So good! But yes, to your point, that would probably be the best way to put it. Thanks!
No, you right, speedadjusted (slowdown) versions match their tunes, some words appear where they were chewed up or incomprehensible, and the voice is more natural!
@@lesavdesabonnes when i was in my late teens I bough his double album. It. was 2 CDs. I wanted to see what everyone was raving about. I played it and to me his voice sounded like a munchkin. I felt something was off. These, corrected clips sound much more like a grown man singing.
Calling bs on this one, you write feel on a piece of paper. Your chords are incomplete and your missing notes mostly due to you have no idea. Stick to country and vestern
I B wondering, could you do better? He's got a great video here with a lot of time and effort involved and some bloke comes along and slams him for writing his own facts by his own hand on his own thread and so I call out ("luckylion") for being less than kind and w/o any facts to back up his own statement. I hope the three of us argue this out in heaven someday a long time from now. Blessing to the best and the same blessings to the worst equal portions to the fat guy and the skinny guy! I love good and I love bad because I have a little of both under my skin everyday!
@@MrPHart You are correct sir, my comment was extreme to say the least. It is also correct I have little understanding of how to get vids on here ( that is something I can only dream of ). I have no defense nor argument and will rewrite my comment please stand by.
@@MrPHart Watched it again and his arrogance, and self appointing ideology is unbearable. Mixed with claims everyone else plays it wrong, and he's here to show how he's also playing the tune how he perceives it. I certainly hope Robert joins our debate as I play this different to everyone I have jammed with.
Dude, that’s a 100 year old guitar from savers! I have a video about it somewhere in TH-cam too, but I’ve been meaning to make an update too. It’s an old Lyon and Healy.
“if you go phrase by phrase…thats the closest you can get to sharing air with the guy.”
very very profound
😂 things get a little metaphorical around here sometimes!
THANKS FOR PLAYING IT RIGHT. I HAVE BEEN STUDYING RJ FOR DECADES AND YOU NAILED IT.

I remember Keith Richards said listening to Robert Johnson was like listening to Bach.
Definitely can relate!
@@kostringworks I played some Bach pieces before choosing guitar, the all musical travels were different, excepted musical passion for both of course.
I've been trying to play this song for decades and will continue to do so. Thanks for this breakdown. There's a lot of very cool insight here.
Hope this helps in some way or another! It’s def a “lifetime” kind of tune.
Abosolutly tha best breakdown of Robert's masterwork ... thank you very much ....

Well done lad!🎉🎉

Thanks Andrew!! Yeah I try to keep my dork-analysis light hearted, cause it can truly be just as fun as playing sometimes!
Supposedly Keith asked Brian "who's the other guy" it's just him he said
great analysis, subscribed
Thanks dude! Hope to see ya around the comments!
This is one of the best guitar lessons on TH-cam. Subscribed. I am so happy I found your channel.
Ah shucks! Glad it helped!
Brilliant mate. Been playing this for years without knowing those subtleties... Thanks.

Gah, dude I know. The vid was getting so long already, but yes, that part’s so sick. See ya on patreon!!
I really like the style every videos the right amount of technology and old school
Thanks dude!
Great Video. Thank You. BTW what brand/model is your guitar?
Thanks! It’s a Lakeside, one of the many brands produced by Lyon & Healy in the 20’s.
Good stuff! Thank you. To return the favour, at 5'42', the chord that is a fret down is B Diminished.
Thanks!!

I mean he wrote the song it makes sense that no one else plays it like him 🤔
Or can?
The hobo alphabet wasn't on my TH-cam bingo card today. Thanks for the pleasant surprise.
What’s the hobo alphabet?

He’s a great example of doing the work to understand the music and reinventing the genre at once!
‘Swung eighth notes’ is the apt phrase.

I did not know Tony Hawk such a great grasp on the guitar!? ;-)
Aw shucks, I was just feeling comfortable learning from Tom Feldmann. I even started adding my own flourishes. 😅
Ha! Dude his stuff is amazing too though, all good!
Cheers Kyle. Great job there 👌🏼
Perhaps he got bored playing the song the same way every time?
Dylan is a bit like that
Dude thanks! It was a really, really fun one for me. I like to think that times were just generally “looser” then. Generally and musically too.
Is that a tiny guitar??? What are we seeing here?
That’s a 1920’s small bodied guitar. They call it a parlor guitar!
the recording was sped up hence the high tuning and the munchkin voice
That is a theory for sure!
