    Planning on going to Japan and attending the Tokyo Games Market at the end of April, and this video is is so brilliantly useful. Looking forward to checking out some second hand board games as well now - wish more of the Australian board game shops had second hand sections like this.
    Thanks for the excellent video.

    Hi Amy and Maggie! Really glad to hear that you guys had a fun time in Japan, and great that you got to hang out with Monique and Naveen too. We are living in Tokyo, and made it to the Tokyo Game Market this year for the first time. What a great experience it was! You also picked up a really great haul of games. Shibuya is one that I am particularly interested in trying out. Thanks for all of the great content and keep up the good work! Cheers!

    Missed you both in TH-cam land. So I watched all 38 games covered! And let me guess, you like trick taking games. 😂 That is hilarious about Luciano but at least you got to see him if not understand him. I want to visit Japan again one day (have been to Osaka and Kyoto but not Tokyo).

    Hope they bring you much gaming joy!

    KINGs Tricktakers may sound intimidating but you’ll enjoy it if you like trick taking games. Backed it on KS and received it 2 months before the estimated delivery date! The drafting of roles is just the tip of the iceberg. With only 5 tricks per round (3 rounds total), every trick becomes crucial as everyone tries to meet their bids. The tension is palpable! Add the different combination of roles each round and you have an amazing trick taking game!

    • @ThinkerThemer
      @ThinkerThemer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Eee! We love trick taking so can't wait to try this, even if it is a bit intimidating. Love a high tension game though! Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts 😊

    Such great tips for the game market!
    We went to Japan recently and I went to about eight game stores in Tokyo alone, some of them multiple times haha. I can still see the eye rolling every time I mentioned a board game store!
    DT west, TGM and Essen in one year? You ladies are the ultimate relationship goal right there!
    Hope to see you soon and try all the quirky games :D

    Hi, what a great trip you had. Gee, how many trick taking games can there be? New top10 list maybe? I only once made it over to Tokyo, for tooo few days; 3 only on a stop-over. Wasn't even able to find a shop with great and expansive Go-stones. (I need a new set, my old ones are getting fewer, and some are shipped off.) But I need to go on a historical Go-trip (with museums etc.) to some other cities in Japan. If I manage time (and extra money) for other game-shops - that will have to be seen. Great video.

    OMG Nana Toridori is gorgeous!
    I LOVE Skull King! A friend who is usually very good brought this and we played and I crushed. I was honestly shocked as he's usually one of the best players I know but apparently he had never played it before. But the tension of the pirate, mermaid, and skull king cards was nervewracking.
    I'm very glad we do not eat the hamster.

    A bit late here, but I thoroughly enjoyed this video - so much so that I watched it twice!
    So many good games! So happy / jealous you were able to find Nokosu Dice. That game is so good! I'm waiting for my TGM order to make its way over and I'm regretting not adding Peas to it, so now I have to make a new order.
    Hooray for Boast or Nothing! That's one of my favorites... I played it four times at DTW. :D Nana is weirdly good. The rules sound so... not good, and I dislike memory games, yet I love this game!
    Perfumery... I love this game so much. I think you will BOTH love it because the theme works well, but the mechanisms are fantastic. Plus cute wooden tokens. You were called away to another game when I started teaching David and Edward.
    Yokohama Roll & Write is *excellent* - I think you'll really like this one as well. It's a meaty roll & write.
    Thank you for sharing your travels with us!

    So game 6 has some similarities as woodcraft for modifying card value. Ok, sounds neat and Halloween theme is fun.

  • @inezkestens5561
    @inezkestens5561 ปีที่แล้ว

    I had been thinking of expanding my smaller card games as I tend to gravitate to big "themed" games and I picked up Trio ... and with Nana I was thinking ... this sounds familiar? 🤔
    And indeed it's the French Version that I have, not as cute but really as fun :)
    I also picked up Parade as a Monique& Naveen recommendation but that one I haven't played yet. But damm, I didn't know Japan had so many boardgames 😭. I really tried to find some lesser known stuff when I was there as art style wise I think I have the same taste as you :)
    But it was mainly manga, figures and an unholy amount of trading cards from Fire Emblem but yeah maybe it's for the best because I made sure my ticket had 2 suitcases included ... and I left with one ... but else I would have been so over the weight :D
    Hope you have fun at Essen this year. Do bring that extra suitcase ;)

    Amy, can you please explain why 5-3-5 is called 5-3-5… 😅 Glad to hear you had an awesome trip and scored some great games!! 🥳❤

    • @marcelineleiman4330
      @marcelineleiman4330 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The deck is made up of 5 cards each of numbers 1-5, 7-9, 11-15. Note there is no 6 or 10! Each grouping of numbers is separated into a “suit,” though the suits are more about helping see what’s in your hand and aren’t important for gameplay. This creates no more than a run of 5 cards in the first and third suit and a run of 3 in the second suit. That’s why it’s called 535!

    • @ThinkerThemer
      @ThinkerThemer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hehe yesss Marceline thank you!!! This slowly dawned on me when I was taught the game at Dice Tower West. And by slowly I mean...far too slowly... 😂 which I think is what Shelby might be referring to! 🙃 In my defence I was very tired. Lololol.
      Thank you both for watching ❤️

    • @truelifetales
      @truelifetales ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ThinkerThemer I taught this at Geekway and as I splayed out the cards and explained that they're separated into sets of 5-3-5 (hence the name of the game!) I did not catch that I had actually laid them out into sets of 5-3-4 which caused some initial confusion - a quick correction - and then continued ribbing through the rest of the weekend. From that point on, whenever I was teaching any game - at some point I'd be asked: "Yes, but why is it called 5-3-5?" Also: looking forward to playing B.O.N. with you!

    What? No Aqua Garden or do you have it already? Aqua Garden isn`t available at all for the western country market.....let`s hope that they will schedule another KS for this game incl. expansions in the near future....
    About "Schadenfreude": You are exactly wright. Schadenfreude is a German word (I´m from Germany) and it`s the joy over the misfortune of somebody else. A good example would be: Playing Galaxy Trucker and you laugh about the destroying of somebody elses ship....as an example from the gaming world.
