Its interesting how much the difference between "how can I make it realistic" and "how can I make it look realistic" can change a process, and product so much. Very often I find myself getting caught on useless, unnoticeable details, while ignoring basics, like how a good lighting setup might render those details invisible anyway.
Totally, I’ve learned that you need to have your final result in mind along every step of the process so you know what details are important, and yeah I learned how to use lighting to my advantage during many tight deadlines :)
Yes dude this is sick! When you started playing with the camera settings I was about to type YOU SHOULD GET LENS SIM and lo and behold you got it! Perfect render my dude
Meanwhile I have to listen to industry pros using professional software only available to pros as they laugh and mock people using blender and after effects, and yet look at these outstanding results. Show me any scene from any big budget film that looks as realistic.
Thanks! I think I set diffuse bounces to 12. 2048 render samples were necessary. Wouldn’t have needed so many samples but lens sim adds a lot of extra noise. No special render passes, just did a little grade and added grain in comp
My heart almost stopped when you put subdivision on the high poly bark.

What was your process for compositing both the trunks?
What was the process to composite both the footage and blend it?
Whats the render time of such animation?
