I used to think it was unrealistic, but Zuko getting severely ill after making the decision to free Appa makes sense in a PTSD sense; I've known abuse survivors who genuinely have extreme physical reactions to things that would have, in the past, gotten them punished. It's exaggerated for storytelling effect, but that's a real thing PTSD can do. Zuko had been conditioned from a very young age that betraying his father and his nation is the most unforgivable thing he could do; he was publicly maimed and humiliated and banished from his homeland just for disrespecting a general and questioning a military decision, imagine what would be done to him if they found out he had made a deliberate move to give the "enemy" the upper hand, especially when his direct orders and last chance at "redemption" was to bring down said enemy.
The battle against the Earth King's guards is definitely one of the most insane fighting moments in the series, just Toph turning the huge stairs into a slide to get rid of all the guards climbing down, and then forming a platform for Appa to go up like a funicular or inclined elevator is incredible. And yes, the badgermole throne is epic, though I love the Fire Lord's throne because all the fire around it makes it look so menacing. Even more so when Azula's on the throne banishing everyone. The Earth King's palace was based off the Forbidden City in Beijing, which yes, IS that big. It covers more than 7.75 million square feet (720,000 square meters), separated from Beijing by a moat and a 33-foot-high wall with gate towers. The Forbidden City was constructed from 1406 to 1420 and was the former imperial palace and winter residence of the Emperor of China from the Ming dynasty (since the Yongle Emperor) to the end of the Qing dynasty, between 1420 and 1924. The Qing dynasty's rule was toppled in 1912 by the Republic of China, but they remained at the palace until they were evicted in 1924 after a war lord coup by Feng Yuxiang against President Cao Kun. The main building in the middle of the Earth King's palace was inspired by the Forbidden City's Hall of Supreme Harmony, where Ming and Qing emperors hosted their enthronement, held court, and wedding ceremonies.
Phil LaMarr did a fine job as the Earth King! I just think it's fitting that the man who played Samurai Jack, the son of an emperor who sets out to free his kingdom, gets to be the monarch himself. It's quite funny that Long Feng describes them as an "anarchist cell" and listening to them will lead to the Earth King's demise when....that's exactly what happened to Kuei's daughter Hou-Ting in Legend of Korra after trusting the Red Lotus, an actual anarchist group. Zuko's dragons resemble kundalini in Hinduism. Kundalini means "coiled snake" and in Hinduism, it's believed to be a form of divine energy at the base of the spine. This energy in the body, when cultivated and awakened through tantric practice, is believed to lead to spiritual liberation. A pretty dark thing in this episode that not only does the Earth King show he was unaware of the war, he’s unaware of the air bender genocide. Most people in the Avatar world during the series recognize Aang because they know the latest one should be an air bender. However, the Earth King doesn’t think of Aang as the Avatar, just a regular air bender to him until he is told so.
Whenever Azula slightly widens her eyes after hearing of the invasion, I always wished the Earth King would notice it, even if I logically knew he wouldn’t because it’s _way_ too subtle for him to see. Even when caught off guard, she’s simply just incapable of breaking character while impersonating someone else.
@@BonzoDrummer I think the eye color point is more of a coincidence than an intended piece of lore in the Avatar universe, but that’s as much as I can say about this.
when you said "Oh no! I forgot that the dai lee gets here" sounded SOOO MUCH like when you said in the show "Quic everyone in to the tunnel" then Sokka said "It's so dark down here, I can't see a thing" then you said "Oh no, what a noghtmare" YOU DIDN'T EVEN HAVE TO PUT EFFORT Toph is my favorite chharacter dsjgsdjf
06:28 I'm touched that the recording of that part sticks with you 'cause it's actually one of my favourite comedic scenes from the whole show! Not an explosively funny moment to everyone but I laughed so hard🤣
10:16 I’m actually surprised she said that considering her relationship with her mom. I thought she wouldn’t care, it’s good to see her actually excited to see her mom.
10:31 awww 🥰 ❤ I love when Iroh says stuff like this, RIP Lu ten and ozai’s normal life (if it was ever really there) best Iroh line along with “even in exile, my nephew is more honorable than you”
3:32 can you remind me of an episode of lower decks where one of the characters was going on a mission that she had no information about it and everybody on the team was grabbing the bad guys knocking them out and her character is like sorry and everybody else is like apologizing to the enemy you're playing some psychological warfare I don't remember what he said
13:48 I always wonder why katara never asked to see them, since they’re friends, which is why Sokka should’ve stayed in ba sing se instead, he would’ve went to say hi to suki. I wish that happened, but then there wouldn’t be the cute reunion 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
12:34 I’ve rewatched the series so much in the last few weeks, so this isn’t a surprise, but I got scared last week when I watched it. I once saw a comment that said “it’s funny how Zuko’s worst nightmare is looking like Aang.” Even though it actually has a symbolic meaning, still funny
11:44 anytime Aang starts a sentence with “katara…” I’m like, tell her Aang, and I imagine the whole thing, and then Sokka interrupts. If you’ve seen my other comment, you would know, I’ve mentioned nightmares and daydreams multiple times already, but I just have to do this “baby, you’re my forever girl” 😂
11:09 this line is ironic, considering what happened when he tried to do his chakra thing. Also, I was just reminded of nightmares and daydreams, you should try chakra sandwiches.
We're just glossing over the fact that Toph is imprisoned in our end recap? I'd say that would constitute as a bad thing resulting in splitting up! (Sure, I know what happens, but as of now, we don't "know")
I never realized as a kid that when Zuko dreamt about having the air nomad tattoo it was like a little foreshadowing for the reveal of Avatar Roku being Zuko’s great grandfather
The letter had said Toph’s mom was in Ba Sing Se, so she didn’t really have to travel far like Aang and Sokka. Of course, once she escapes, there will be some traveling involved 😂
8:02 It was also fun hearing your voice in Legend of Korra as well. Yes you did sound and were older at the time but your voice was still distinctly iconic and lovely to hear. 🎉❤
My sister did give me a water bender Roman bowl but our A-whole older brother broke one of the choke sticks. I was going to get my sister a fire bender bowl plus I'm 30 years old
Yet another good episode. It gives us a sense of progress with long feng finally getting exposed and the characters composing a good battle strategy, letting the earth kingdom know how serious the war is, and leaves us on a pretty exciting cliffhanger to see how the season ends. Excited for these next episodes.
I always felt so bad that Toph was tricked mainly because I really wanted to see her reconcile with her parents. What did happen though is still good though cause we all know what's about to happen! 😁
It's also cool because much later when the comics came out, Toph's father got to witness her being a strong Earthbender and realized he was wrong to treat her the way they did in the series.
“Then why is there a fire nation insignia on your construction project?”
Long feng: 👁️👄👁️
11:31 this was adorable, I love their relationship. Sokka is so cute 🥰
I know they kept it a secret, but the earth kings’s obliviousness to everything is so funny to me 😂
Always loved the subtlety of Aang passing the scroll to toph and her immediately and wordlessly passing it to Katara.😂
lol
Toph growing up to be a tea connoiseur, truly Uncle Iroh is proud.
Had Toph not been captured, she would never have founded metal bending.
I like to believe she would've eventually anyway under other circumstances.
And if Bosco didn't lick aang The entire world probably would have been burnt to the ground.
The paths we follow.
yesss! so true

Sometimes i forgot Mr. Krabs voiced Long Feng

1:45 "I've seen enough of Ba Sing Se, and I can't even see" That's the best line of the entire series..
OK! That earth kingdom jersey is everything! 🤩
thank you! i love it 🪨🦾
Whenever Azula slightly widens her eyes after hearing of the invasion, I always wished the Earth King would notice it, even if I logically knew he wouldn’t because it’s _way_ too subtle for him to see. How about noticing her eye color? It's a huge unacknowledged plot hole that everyone has an eye color matching her nation of origin.
@@BonzoDrummer I think the eye color point is more of a coincidence than an intended piece of lore in the Avatar universe, but that’s as much as I can say about this.
I can’t wait for you to react to the trailer!!
it was sooo good! i'm so excited
7:59 To quote Linda Belcher.
Awww, pewbertay!
LOL XD
Great reaction as always Michaela. Next episode we get to see Toph inventing Metalbending. 🥰
when you said "Oh no! I forgot that the dai lee gets here" sounded SOOO MUCH like when you said in the show

"Oh no, what a noghtmare" YOU DIDN'T EVEN HAVE TO PUT EFFORT
Toph is my favorite chharacter dsjgsdjf
This episode changed my life. I didn’t know what it was called, but, yeah, ego death, totally real.
06:28 I'm touched that the recording of that part sticks with you 'cause it's actually one of my favourite comedic scenes from the whole show! Not an explosively funny moment to everyone but I laughed so hard🤣
huh I never really thought much of the moment till now
I love the earth king, and how he’s so desperate to ride appa 😂
10:16 I’m actually surprised she said that considering her relationship with her mom. I thought she wouldn’t care, it’s good to see her actually excited to see her mom.
Can't wait to see you react to the new trailer of the live action. It looks perfect...
I know it's an Earth Kingdom jersey, but Michaela looks 🔥🔥🔥 in it.
OMG I love your shirt! Is possible these are still being sold or they long overdue?
8:47 Sokka thinking he made a good joke is nearly funnier than his ACTUAL good jokes
My favorite episode. Thanks for reacting, as always!
thank you for watching! 💚

Water, Earth, Fire, Wind, Heart, GO PLANET...
Oh wrong show...
Gotta start a football club called Earth Kingdom FC with those jerseys! 🔥😤
12:08 katara may say that she doesn’t see him as a brother, but lets be honest, she definitely does.
8:48 Sokka's Best Line Ever!!!!

Damn that jersey is so cool! I wish I had one
please react to the live action trailer ms. toph
Azula…!
I love your videos. I would love to see your reaction to the new ATLA Live Action full length trailer that just came out.
Can you also react to the trailer??????
We're just glossing over the fact that Toph is imprisoned in our end recap? I'd say that would constitute as a bad thing resulting in splitting up!
(Sure, I know what happens, but as of now, we don't "know")
I need you to react to the new trailer that Netflix released for Avatar the last airbender!!! (it is incredible)
Did you check out the new trailer
2:28 feel like the writers could've phrased that better in the script because having you say that as a child is crazy
Love the jerseys from box lunch. I have the aang one
12:43 this part was hilarious. Did Sokka not think “what girl is he referring to?” Or “he’s talking about katara, isn’t he?” Or something like that?
I remember most moments out of my brain
Huh, never saw those jerseys before. I only have some neat 4 elements glasses that I got Comic con once.
I never realized as a kid that when Zuko dreamt about having the air nomad tattoo it was like a little foreshadowing for the reveal of Avatar Roku being Zuko’s great grandfather
See, I'm only halfway here right here, because of *THE TRAILER*!!! AAAAHHHHHHH!!!!
You probably already know they have dropped a new trailer for the live series
I agree with every word you say mommy
14:56 Sokka is visiting their dad, not Katara.
Ahhh I really want that jersey haha but really hard and really expensive to get one from my country 😭😭
I knew from here 8:42 that they were still in his side
Toph has always reminded me of a peanuts character 😅
I knew he would be nicer, but Zuko’s starting to scare me 🫣
The letter had said Toph’s mom was in Ba Sing Se, so she didn’t really have to travel far like Aang and Sokka. Of course, once she escapes, there will be some traveling involved 😂
I wonder if Bumi has a jersey
11:52 the squeaky noise 💀
Здравствуйте Микаэла!!! (Hello Michaela)!!!
My Cabbages!
I was going to get my sister a fire bender bowl plus I'm 30 years old
Zuko’s nightmares scare me so much, but I hate ursa, so idrc what happens to her 😊
You gotta react to the live action avatar the last airbender trailer ASAP 🙏
"In my brain", where else would someone have memories? Sometimes Michaela Jill...
I hope she does a reaction to the official trailer.
8:03 Toph, you forgot that you voiced Ming in the first season!
Nice
She's got beautiful eyes👀
Please react avatar the last airbender netflix official trailer
💚 trailer de live action reaccionalo por favor 💪
YES that’s what I was thinking
You should get Dante Basco or someone else from the show to join you for tea time with Toph
Yet another good episode. It gives us a sense of progress with long feng finally getting exposed and the characters composing a good battle strategy, letting the earth kingdom know how serious the war is, and leaves us on a pretty exciting cliffhanger to see how the season ends. Early ish I’m never this earlier
Love the hair flip at the we'll figure a way to escape. :P Also, it's Sokka that gets to see his dad, not Katara. :)
The most intense battle of the series is 2 seconds away and “…and today’s tea is…” DUDE!!!
You will do a reaction to the full trailer? 🙏🙏🙏

Woohoo
about hearing yourself getting older, were the episode recordings done in sequential order then? i guess i had the idea that they werent
I wonder, if someone in the Avatar universe had made a play about our world, would Toph be the voice actor for you?
