Question, why the usage of AI art in this video? I agree with you, but that's a pretty big contradiction.

6:25 This Actually Wasn't An AI Cover, It's Stolen Content Using The Cover Of AI, Which Is Even Scarier To Think Someone Could Get Away With. (the original is arranged by The 8-Bit Big Band, and it appears that the "A.I" cover was taken down)
(Edit: i compared the two in the past, and listening to it within the video it does sound different, so i'm not sure if it's compression or a reupload with actual ai in it, but the original version of the video did not contain AI content)

Regarding the AI covers, I love that Schlatt actually learned how to sing and made a _real_ vocal cover of My Way (which got copyright claimed a few months after release), sounds amazing, and is working on a Christmas album. If anything positive comes out of AI, I would imagine that it pushes certain people to create more, to put real effort and time into making a better, more human version of what the machine does, or make something that only a human could make.

@@pizzarellayt if you listen closely, you can hear robotic artifacting in his note changes. Whenever the singer goes off pitch, there is a slight delay before the program corrects it for them. I heard it quite noticeably a few times throughout the song.
I get why he did it. It makes sense. But it explains why he sounds silky smooth compared to his normal voice

So I'm biased here, but as a veteran of the Vocaloid and UTAU community, seeing this rapid evolution of AI as a means of vocal imitation has been both fascinating and terrifying. In our sphere, artificial covers are nothing new; UTAU has been used for it for as long as the program has been around. But every cover was made by hand through splicing and tuning individual syllables of audio that you went and gathered yourself. It was tedious as hell, and the end result still sounded pretty artificial most of the time. But people still did it, because they wanted to hear their favorite character sing their favorite song THAT badly. It's so strange hearing these AI covers now, because although sound-wise it's everything I've been yearning for for years, it also feels incredibly hollow. The vocals sound more human than ever, but it's because the human element has been removed from the creation process. I feel like I've made a wish upon a monkey's paw.

And not just only in the music spectrum. As an animator, seeing AI practically replace some of our jobs is heartbreaking. The creativity and passion put into making animations just gets seeped away into the abyss. Its just an empty void of professional art that wasnt truly created.

I totally agree with this, as someone who's passionate about putting animations out there. There are so many ideas and passions out there that have yet to be realised by so many people because of the fact that whatever can be made will be drowned in a pile of ai content. This is incredibly discouraging to me and others, and will continue to be, for so many people. I feel that just not just people in the industry now could be affected, but possible future animators and creatives in the industry too, honestly.

I have a mixture of feelings about this. AI covers are definitely a weird sort of puppetry, where we are reaching through time to ensure the performers we love still dance for us. It's a sign we want so much more from these artists long gone, but instead of appreciating their art, we try imitating their work. But, when I think about the intent of these covers - mostly for humour - I find it difficult to condemn indiscriminately. I don't think it's an indictment on the human race that we are curious about new technology and like to laugh. But I also hope people do go discover or know the original work that is used in covers they watch.
Also, I don't think anything will kill the innate human drive to create original works and I think the quality will always show no matter what. So I don't think this spells doom for music, I believe people will always seek out original works. I may be naive to say AI won't bring about 'the great replacement' of music but I'm certain it will remain a sideshow piece.

As a creative I've found solace in the fact that AI is a thing nobody will stop & there is no point in worrying anymore. It's going to keep getting better & more convincing over time, and there's next to nothing we can do. I can personally only try to adapt to this landscape and take in what helps me with my work or my day to day life. I think we should all drop down our morality highground hats and stop pretending that if we completely deny AI it will go away, and instead try and steer this AI craze in a positive direction that benefits us all, not just giant tech companies.

Composer here, people likely will want to pay for music written by humans. AI music kills culture, there was no passion in its production, and therefore no value. Even beginning music producers put more passion into their work than AI. There is a reason for why people become "fans" of certain artists. It's because something they make identifies with them, the same can't be said for AI "artists".

I mostly don’t like AI beyond those funny shitposts made with AI like music covers n whatever else people make shitposts with AI. However I am also very much against copyright, I think copyright does more harm to small artists than it could ever help as I believe from what I’ve seen that it exists primarily to protect the “intellectual property” of big corporations since they have the capital to A) expend the time and resources on copyright, and B) lobby to extend their control of their copyright.
I firmly believe that art would be better without copyright and that “intellectual property” should be shared. And so that means that even though I have a moral stance against things like AI art, my firm copyright abolitionist take means I think AI is a necessity. People need to be allowed to make AI with anyone and everyone’s art so that people can be allowed to make transformative art like TH-cam Poops or reviews or whatever else without the legal stink of copyright.

So to say someone's reputation is uprooted, while accurate in a certain regard, is only really a matter of perspective, because I promise that if you dig up frank and ask, he'll have nothing to say on the matter. Looking at what AI can already do, it does kind of worry me, but as RandsomwaveRBLX had said, it would be better to move it in a positive direction instead of ignoring it, but it is at a point where it is very in between "Oh this is good" to "Oh this isnt... this video is great. i agree with a lot of the points you make. ai is scary and there's so many things that don't feel fully humane or right to be doing that are happening every day. i like parts of your editing style as well! i'd like to say, though, you can take this in whatever way you want, but from a viewer's perspective, but i am going to (hopefully politely enough?) nitpick 2 certain editing style choices i found overwhelming - the meme/audio clips in the middle of sentences, and the multitude of different gifs playing at once can be distracting and feel less coherent. but overall, i really enjoyed this video and it was nice to see someone bring attention to this in the format you did. thank you :)

I remember seeing this video where it was basically taking the big iron song, and turning it into an insult directed towards a comment saying how disrespectful the genre(?, subcategory maybe?) of big iron songs that are basically cutting lyrics and rearranging them into different words and sentences
And then I see this video, which reminded me about that video, which just makes me think that even AI just does what the people did; getting snippets of vocies and mashing them together into new words and sentences, as well as the AI doing some heavy lifting to make the song not sound so choppy with the big iron ones made by actual people.
But even then how these two scenarios are similar, the ones made by AI are just following instructions, while the ones made by humans are actual commitments of effort and creativity. One puts words in the mouth of people, usually without their consent and may even be dead, while the other takes those original words from people and mashes it into something that has a basis on the people they are taking the words from, but churning it into something more original and "human" recognizable by it's unique flaws that an algorithim could not repeat unless being instructed to do so.

In simple terms sure they can add their voice to any song because its just music but changing their personality and LYING about what they did because the internet distorts thing so much. And finally to close it off ai is just a mimic and has no weight. Remember power is given by the people as we do with words. So don't let it scare you and don't let it take your rights away.

I feel that Ai is actually keeping alive the legacy of the artists that have passed on, keeping their memories alive for hopefully generations to come. Ai keeps these names, like Frank Sinatra and others in the public consciousness for just a bit longer than they might have been otherwise, though using their likeness without permission is definitely sketchy and especially profiting off of them is not the greatest thing either but this is happening and it will continue to happen, that is just how new technologies are. Eventually we just have to accept the reality regardless of if we like it or not, we can of course fight against it and delay it but eventually people will just stop caring as more important matters will take precedence and this issue will just be forgotten and in a few generations it will be the new normal alongside "normal" music.

While I agree with the points about AI stealing creator's works without compensation, and about AI ruining reputation. And I do believe that there needs to be more regulations against AI. I have to disagree about AI ruining Legacy and originality
First off I do not believe that AI has done enough damage to Artist or brand by simply creating a fun cover. If anything I'd argue that it spread more awareness about certant artist. Let's be real here, how many of modern day teenagers/kids listen or even know of Frank Sinatra? Even if out of every 100 teens only 1 will not only listen but fall in love with Frank's music and decides to take music on a more serious level because of these silly covers, that would mean that out of about a million people who watched this cover, there would still be about ten thousand people who decided to seriously pursue music. But even ignoring that, do you seriously think that nirvana's legacy will be destroyed and they will be removed from rock and roll hall of fame, because some kid made a Kurt Cobain cover of gangam style? With the amount of impact some of these artists have made, I don't think AI covers are going harm their legacy in any way. Especially since after a while the novelty of all that will fade away and AI covers will become way more niche.
I also don't belive that AI voices (and AI in generall) is an attack on human creativity. Just because someone is using AI doesn't mean they don't any put effort into anything else. There are a ton of Vocaloid songs that use AI voice synthesizers that, in my opinion, are genuene master pieces like Lagtrain, Disappearance of Hatsune Miku or that nameless Kisaragi station song. This isn't only about songs though, Shadok used AI voices to voice act in their web show "Loveweb" (and it's pretty good, I highly recomend it), way before AI became a hot topic and before Shadok had the funds for real VAs. So who's to say that if, for example, Trent Reznor or Weird Al release their own way more in depth AI voice programm without any moraly questionable problems, nobody's going to use it to create genuenly good and original stuff.
So if there are going to be more regulations about AI that will make it perfectly moral (like not allowing companies to use AI to fully replace humans, not allowing companies to train AIs on work of artists that didn't give consent), I believe it could be used as an amazing tool that will help people create genuenly good stuff.

I've had the same opinion on AI covers. I heard one In a random video out the blue and immediately skipped to the end of that part. One time I was looking for a TTS and came across a AI cover maker... thing instead and was slightly insulted because If I really wanted to make a TTS sing I would open up Audacity and edit It around, and then open GarageBand and use the vocal transformer to smoothen It out (I've used It before to humanize TTS a little.) It's a long process, but It's better then making a robot do the whole thing and be lazy while It shits It out. Is this comment necessary? Not really, but I thought I'd have to say something.

Culture and values are constantly changing, but it is known that "there is nothing new under the sun". My thought is that it is pointless to hold on to ideas like "copyright" and "legacy" because, especially in recent times, they have not been able to hold their own against the will of the people. I do think that it is interesting with AI to imagine that it will outperform us in so many aspects that we would consider it a "higher power" or something of the like. Robotics obviously will play a large part in the advancement of that though the original meaning of the word "robot" is quite inevitable. Perchance. Oh you like to work? You have survival instincts that can be tapped into that force your work to be more productive? It really is too bad we had that Industrial Revolution to cement our culture and values in producing to no end. It is unlikely the human race will ever recover.

is it weird that i find it less problematic to use singers that already died (like sinatra)?
(btw i think AI voice covers aren't something that should be profited off in any way shape or form, but don't have all that much problem with them just existing as long as they don't have influence over/on the original artists)
I don't think a dead person can have their reputation destroyed in such a way. because they aren't here anymore, they also can't have a fall from grace. At most their voice does, but never the person themselves.
I do also think that Sinatra hasen't been this popular in decades and is a singer that younger generations wouldn't be exposed to as much if it wasn't for the recent outbreak of covers of his music or using his sweet and silky voice.
Ontop of that AI covers like these are very much a temporary thing like all other memes on the internet (99.99% of the time) and they drown themselves out in the shear number of them that are out there.

Yeah…AI is here to stay lmao. Push back all you want, the cat has since left the bag-look at the singularity subreddit or any AI news coverage on YT and you’ll see how AI is not only improving the world as we know it, but isn’t leaving just because an oldhead said so or calls to action to stop it. Times are changing, and being a Luddite about it is, for lack of a better word, useless. I myself don’t think AI art is good, most of it is pretty bad and even slop-like, but even as an artist, I recognize that it’s here to stay regardless of what I think, which is generally what you *should* do.
AI won’t trump or replace “real” art (whatever real and AI art/music is, the line is slowly being blurred), hell you didn’t even talk about Udio or Suno AI, which are more important to your argument than AI covers that will eventually become more advanced sure, but think about it like this-vocal AI moves at a snail’s pace. It’s been nearly 3 years and RVC is still the only good way to make these covers. Elevenlabs is still, after almost 3 years, the only voice cloning tts AI that you can potentially use for VA. OpenAI’s 4o Voice model is still closed off to the rest of us and are not open source. Udio AI and Suno are the actual heavy hitters, as they can create competent, good music with good enough prompt engineering or even simple prompting. Those AI are actually “dangerous”, but aren’t treated as such because you and I can make decent music with a couple words and a specific feeling. Which is how it’s gonna stay, and how you view that is depending on your side of history you want to be on, so to speak.
