Look at where you are,
Look at where you started.
Let this be the first chapter, where you decide to stay, that would be enough!
Emma Smith This comment made my day
Galaxy Bagel same
Autumn Kalista I know we as humanity don’t deserve you Lin Manuel Miranda, but keep smiling and that would be enough.
The fact that your are alive is a miracle.
*Just stay alive that would be enough*
Lin-Manuel Miranda,
you rewrote the game
the world will never be the same
kalboraph it wasnt a rhyme but a quote/ its A. Ham, sure you now know
and the worlds gonna know your name WHATS YOUR NAME MAN?
"I don't know about God but I believe in Chris Jackson!" SAME LIN SAME
they made this line into a shirt. Look up Lin Manuel Miranda on Ellen he wears it there
Nope
So his first time around, he beat Alan Disney God Menken. Then 8 years later, he beat Andrew Lloyd King Of Theater Webber.
First came Shakespeare, but we're going to be known as the Lin-Manuel Miranda era.
How lucky we are to be alive right now.
please andrew lloyd stiff ass white guy webber can kiss my ass
jacquiebrownjb so true 😭❤️
My jaw dropped when I saw Alan Menken. The fact that Lin beat the guy that wrote the soundtrack of my childhood is just so... I can't describe it. I am so proud of Lin and to be in the era of his work and influence, along with Alan's, is inspiring and humbling all at once. :)
it would have been a fucking sin if ALW's hack score for School of Rock and Glenn Slater's shit lyrics had won the Best Original Score lol.
as of 2020, ALW and Alan Menken are now EGOTs, i hope Lin joins them soon (he just has to get his Oscar) and he'll be a MacPEGOT (he'll have one hell of a record if he succeeds)
This speech is phenomenal but why does this look like it was filmed in 1994
2008. Dark times.
one-er TRUE
you mean 1776? ok sorry,
This is normal quality for a standard definition TV feed from 2008.
wait it isn't?
"Just won his first Tony." Wow. And now look at where he is.
Look at where is his
Look at where he started
he won 2 more 8 years later for Hamilton
It is Unbelievable! And Hamilton blows In the Heights out of the water
@@manuelorozco7760 In The Heights is my fav choice out of both but i appreciate your opinion
@@inisialf8908 Thank you. I love Lin i really do but i cant get over how he has developed in terms of versatility
2008 was not that long ago but this clip looks so ancient
2008 was 8 years ago already what
+Kyra Lexmond Avatar was made in 2008 soooo your face.
You're right. It looks like it could've been from the late 90's!
Ikr
We went from "HD" being 480p to 4k in such a short time.
Can we talk about Lin working with Alan Menkin now on the music on the live Little Mermaid movie. Lin Manuel Miranda life is always just coming full circle.
Jahaja yes
If you can't beat them, join them. Disney always recruits future talent
It’s so surreal
@@aserr5660 We Can use an original Pasek and Paul score for Disney right now
Parts of this video that deserve special recognition:
Lin and Vanessa fist bumping
Robin actually crying
Alex Lacamoire
'I don't know about God, but I believe in Chris Jackson'
The fact that we have Chris Jackson makes me believe there is a God. LBS
Lin-Manuel Miranda is so important.
so is my ass. but maybe him a little more.
I love how the Cast of 'Heights' was more lively & loud than anyone else...just like a true latino family. :')
Lin's success comes from:
-Making up your acceptance speech
-Testing out material in the white house
-Carrying a little Puerto Rican flag with him wherever he goes
noted
this is the best acceptance speech i have ever heard
And then he did the one for Hamilton...
He has the best acceptance speeches honestly, the one he did for Hamilton was just fucking beautiful
as of 2020, Lin still holds the record for youngest winner to this day, He was 28 years old when he won for In The Heights (he is now 40)
holly shit it’s been that long ago when in the heights came out
@@amiah9058 I was 15 when the show came to Broadway
Jason Robert Brown was 28 years old when he won "Best Original Score" in 1999 for "Parade." I love LMM, I'm not trying to take the record away from him...But he shares it with someone else. (Unless you want to be super picky and go by EXACT age because JRB was 28 and 11 months, so a little older than LMM, but I think that's being a bit picky. Most of us stopped counting months when we were children. LOL)
I only know that because "Parade" is so big right now and I had a moment where I realized that JRB wrote it in his early to mid 20s. 🤯That's incredible! You'd think that show was written by someone who had lived a long life and experienced a lot of things. He was practically a kid!
ALEX LACAMOIRE IS THE CUTEST HUMAN EVER. NO ONE FIGHT ME ON THIS.
i agree!!!!
Amandine De Simone agreed!! Lin smol bean can and will beat anyone!!
Let's be real. Thomas Kail, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Anthony Ramos, and Robin are all cute.
AWWW I JUST NOTICED HIM
OMFG I think i fell even more in love with Lin Manuel Miranda!!!! He fucking freestyled his award speech?!?! Who does that? Mr. Lin Miranda that's who!!!
Yep. I thought this was amazing when I thought he wrote it, but of course this man freakin freestyles his acceptance speech!
@@pandamonika Practice What You Preach
I'm not from Puerto Rico but the moment when he dedicated his award to all latin people and showed his flag almost makes me cry of joy!!!
Arriba los latinos !!!
I LOVE HOW HE INCLUDES A RAP EVERYTIME HE WINS AN AWARD :D
Everyone ready for a repeat of this this year?
Oh hell yes
Alex Lac is the cutest lil bean ever next to linnamon roll...
The fact that the Little Mermaid is his favourite Disney film makes it all even more special :) Lin is amazing and I want him to live and create forever.
Me in 2020: So he's been doing this since 2008
Damn.. Respect.
Respect the fist bump at 2008 and 2016
Respect the art, the genius
The relentlessness
Respect the man, the legend. The true wordsmith
LIN MANUEL MIRANDA
Lin is a force of nature
So glad to see Usnavi didn't throw away his shot.
I just saw Hamilton on Disney Plus back in January. Even before seeing it, I could understand that reference
I BELIEVE IN TONY NOMINEE CHRIS JACKSON
YES! USNAVI BUSTING THE BARS!
The Hat quote is from the Pulitzer Prize winning Stephen Sondheim/James Lapine musical "Sunday in the Park with George," which chronicles George Seurat and his painting "A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte" and is about art, artists, and the struggle of creation. In the song "Finishing the Hat," Seurat says after finishing part of the painting "look I made a hat where there never was a hat," which is a statement about the wonder and joy at making art.
"I don't know about God but I believe in Chris Jackson!" Is my new religion
I cannot deal with Lin's voice when he gets emotional like it's just too much omg
This makes me so frikking emotional. I'm crying right now.
FUKING LEGEND!!!
RIGHT BOO? I NEED A REVIVAL
It's ridiculous how many times I've watched this video and *still* get goosebumps.
Words cannot explain how proud I am of him
Isabel Hernandez pride is not the word you're looking for

Such a great speech with the best lyric from musical theater ever written 'look I made a hat where there never was a hat" incorporated. Well done..
Ugh, Lin. I am so proud of you! You have so much heart and Broadway is lucky to have you.
seeing this in 2020 makes me even more proud of him. he changed the game for musicals & how we tell stories. they will be taking about him long after this moment. “there’s a million things i haven’t done, but just you wait, just you wait.”
In the Heights is a near equal work of beauty as Hamilton
Coming here to remind myself that Lin was always great and good, and talented and kind hearted.
Spoken like a true broadway hearted person
Best speech!!! Miss In the Heights!! Please bring it back!!!!!!!

History has its eyes on you, Lin.
The two new trailers for the upcoming ITH movie sent me here. I remember watching this Tony telecast at my Grandma’s house at age 15. Lin has an awesome way with rapping. And can you believe he and Allan Menken are doing the Little Mermaid remake together?
