She didn't reply for ages and I'm just sat there thinking 'I've scared her away with my new fandom, haven't I' I saw her at school and asked her why she hadn't replied and she just said she didn't know how to and I'm there like 'XD Yep, I've scared her off with my new fandom haven't I' she likes Hamilton and DEH but she hasn't managed to properly introduce me to DEH yet and I think I failed with ITH but she's still the biggest Hamilfan I know (other than me and about equal to another friend I've got who's actually going to see Hamilton but also knows a few ITH songs) Also, I love your profile picture XD

He started writing in college, yes, but it took years of refining, rewriting it, and having multiple other talents working on it before finally, years later, we received the definitive version of In the Heights.
this show is absolutely brilliant. I got to see it 3 times with the original broadway cast. i wish people would see this as a separate entity from Hamilton. It was nominated for 13 tonys, won 4 including best musical, won the grammy and was nominated for a Pulitzer. I'm so happy people will get to see more of Lin's brilliance when the movie comes out next summer!

3:07 not a criticism, but i just noticed that this detail was lost in the movie as they went with a different kind of setting and choreography. When Vanessa starts singing about leaving town when she gets money, Usnavi gets sad, but Benny notices this and starts singing his lines to distract Usnavi with happy thoughts
Honestly the sad part is Lin is always the worst actor in his plays. He's such a talented creator but in terms of actually performing, he's the weakest. Everybody always outshines him.

Actually hard agree. I love both of them, I don't actually find myself listening to songs from Hamilton without friends and whatever. In the Heights is so musically and fantastically complicated that similar to Hamilton I can hear different things everytime I listen to it. I think Hamilton is more somber though since Burr is reflecting on Hamilton's life and the founding of a severely flawed, yet beautiful country. In the Heights is more optimistic and feels much more alive, like the whole city is the main character

People who love this should see his new play coming out in July, "Hamilton"; was just as good but this time about the founding fathers of our country. LIn-manual is a genius imo.
Ok so I'm way too many years late but I just listened to the soundtrack for the first time and damn... I think I prefer this to Hamilton. And I really love Hamilton. But you can really feel the heart in this and connect with the characters. There's a slight detachment (for me) with the fact that Hamilton is happening so long ago. But... I'm also a broke college student trying to figure out my life and I feeeeel this.

I watched this for the first time in 2021 and it made me cry my eyes out. I have never been able to watch this show online or on stage but i have listened to the soundtrack a million times and that was exactly how i imagined it to look. The cast looks so young compared to now. If i cried at a tony award performance, i have no chance at the new film.
I had the honor of seeing this entire original cast in the Broadway show over 10 years ago. OMG. It was absolutely fantastic. Lin definitely is a genius.
This was the first Tony Awards performance I remember seeing on TV, when I was 12. I clearly remember hearing Karen Olivo sing, and think "who is she, and how is her voice so perfect?!" Even now, this musical remains one of my favorites. And Karen Olivo is still a vocal angel...
What’s interesting to see is how different Chris’s performance is as Benny vs Washington. Benny is loose and funky. Washington is obviously stern and serious, as a general and the first president of the US. Shows his talent!

I watched this for the first time in 2021 and it made me cry my eyes out. I have never been able to watch this show online or on stage but i have listened to the soundtrack a million times and that was exactly how i imagined it to look. The cast looks so young compared to now. If i cried at a tony award performance, i have no chance at the new film.

I had the honor of seeing this entire original cast in the Broadway show over 10 years ago. OMG. It was absolutely fantastic. Lin definitely is a genius.

This was the first Tony Awards performance I remember seeing on TV, when I was 12. I clearly remember hearing Karen Olivo sing, and think "who is she, and how is her voice so perfect?!" Even now, this musical remains one of my favorites. And Karen Olivo is still a vocal angel...

What’s interesting to see is how different Chris’s performance is as Benny vs Washington. Benny is loose and funky. Washington is obviously stern and serious, as a general and the first president of the US. Shows his talent!
