Hooper casually did 235kg for 24 reps Broscience time: In a 1rm calculator, Z's comes to 493.5 kg. This feels about right for peak Z. In a 1rm calculator, Hooper's comes to 429 kg. (probably below Mitch's peak squat) If we reverse the calculations, Z's 493kg squat should be equivalent to... something north of 30+ reps. the calculators online don't go that far up and probably aren't accurate after 10reps. In conclusion, younger Big Z would eat this record for breakfast. P.S: 2 years ago, Z did 320kg for 12 reps in the gym. which comes to about 448kg 1rm. Perhaps he could still beat it if his knees allow. It could be a fun collaboration to see if either of you can break it.
Respect for squatting 525. Let’s focus on the depth. Tom Platz squatted hams touching calves on every rep. Major difference in a full squat and a powerlifting depth squat. You're a beast, man!! Awesome work! I got tired just watching you push anything past 10. Wenning's spotter looked super sus, btw, with his forearms glued to his pecks.
Finished absolutely torching myself with a 290x5 AMRAP on low-bar today, and almost all of your high-bar reps looked easier than my first. Killer set man; I'm feeling crazy inspired to keep pushing right now!
Great shit ..i got 308 x 3 on low bar as well couple days ago n i keep feeling like pushing even more . I want to hit 350lbs before year ends for a 1rep max . hopefully i get it
@@lukecullins9934 you definitely have that in the tank! I hit 340 for a single a few weeks ago. Felt like RPE 11 but managed to get below parallel and grind it back up. Ready for that 350 club myself later this year. Hope you smash it 💪

This is deffo the best attempt since Platz himself.
That said, I do believe we need to give Platz the props he deserves: his depth and torso angle have never been matched!!
Of course this moose dude squats are crazy but when the depth is not there as in Platz case, it shouldn't be considered "record beaten". It's a different thing.
torso angle?
Yep. No one has squatted with quads like him. Way too much glute.
correct. you can squat 525 for 24 reps and that's impressive but if you're not squatting olympic style, ass-to-grass, you're not beating platz record.
@@FistfulOfGabagool olympic weightlifters don't wear squat suits
The world's strongest man taking the record in such a volume oriented record without any prep for it is ridiculous.
Edit- damns folks I was just saying it's impressive 🥺
I mean, Strongman is a volume heavy sport.
@@saintvino1772 Not to the degree that they're doing 20+ reps very often but I suppose it has more volume than powerlifting and weight lifting
@simondean5227 well yeah but Mitchs marathon base helpstoo.
@@saintvino1772 Yeah that's part of the reason of my comment, Mitch is more versatile than you'd expect from a WSM winenr
@@simondean5227 He is versatile, yeah, but that doesn't apply in this context. In 2019 WSM, Martins Licis did 340 kilos for 9 reps. In 2017 WSM, Eddie Hall did 15 reps with 317.5 kilos. Brian Shaw, Big Z, Martins and JF Caron all did 13 reps in the same comp. I'm sure all these athletes can do what Mitch did today. Strongman as a sport has a lot of events where they have to rep out squats and deadlifts so it stands to reason that they would be good at it. Also, WSM had deadlift for reps in both the heats and the finals so it's not like Mitch wasn't used to volume on a lower body exercise.
You truly are a great human being such an amazing role model and I’m a 41 year old family man dad who trains fan of wsm and bodybuilding .

Awesome feat of strength. The world of strongman is really getting the shake-up it needed with your arrival and dominance.
Dominance? Right now he’s a quieter Eddie hall.
Mitch ---> WSM, around 145 kg BW ( 525 = around 1,66x BW ), knee pads, lever belt , half squats, 1'30" to do 24 ( doing more what we would call breathing squats )
Platz ---> Around 70% of Mitch's BW ( 525 = way over 200% BW ) , 1 minute to do 23 reps, ass to grass ( around double distance than Mitch ), no knee pads, classic belt
Not to knock Mitch's performance down, just goes on to show how insane of a feat of strength this was 30 years ago...
Would love to see you try the Brian Shaw blob circuit for grip strength. Thus far, he is the only one that has been able to complete it.
Yeah - this one is cool
brian shaw is 6'8, his hands are probably like 10% larger atleast than mitch' so it'd be extremely impressive if mitch could perform similarly
@@justinjagt7633I’m wondering if Brian actually has big hands or not , there’s no actual information about his hand size

Dude…..that was an insane feature of strength!
That damn 25th rep was just an inch deeper than all the other 24 reps before, that‘s what did cost you the 25th rep and breaking the record.
I‘m sure that on a really good day and with a cheering counting crowd you would even go above 25 reps.
Lots of love from Vienna.
Coach Nemo
Impressive that platz did it at a far lower body weight
Awesome. Having those random gym days to show out and do something cool is what makes it fun for me. Glad to see it’s the same for legends.
I mentioned this in a live, but deadlifting your mile time would be an impressive feat of strength and conditioning. I think the challenge was started by Allan Thrall.
Alan Thrall actually did a program called Run Fast Squat Heavy. The goal is to back squat in pounds the equivalent of your mile run time on the same day. There is a whole ebook program. I did it after I saw Alan's video. A very cool challenge for sure!!
Sorry but this man is ridiculous. Yes he's a unti but nowhere near the size of other strongmen. It's sick
So 5:00 equals 500 pounds?
Not right now for me haha, maybe some day
That would be a pretty impressive one!
should he jog a 9:00 mile and then pull 900 or push the mile time and then just pull whatever?
That marathon background kicking in! So impressive, I did a measly 225x20 and was GASSED. Can’t imagine the feeling after this!
I cant even begin to describe how strong this is.
Incredible. Have to admit until 2022 WSM I had no idea who you were but I and a whole lot of other people know who you are now and I'm a believer that you ARE the real deal !
Seriously impressive, just like the entire year has been! 👍💪🏆
King ! What a grinder, great effort and mental strength - well done !
Dudes like this are why we have legends.
What so impressive about this dude is he looks like a beast for sure but by no means does he look as freaky genetically or size wise as 99% of the previous worlds strongest men, looks far more normal in comparison and yet absolutely holds his own even getting his own WSM title which is a testamate to how smart his programming is and staunch mindset
High bar, squatting low and narrow stance. That was insane feat of strength.
no
That's called a proper squat
What we just witnessed is an absurd level of strength and ive shared the video with several friends, but I wouldn't call that a narrow stance OR that low of squat depth; several wouldve been questionable as far as powerlifting standards call for. I would not nitpick this at all if it weren't for having seen this comment, lol.

Great work ethic for the high reps, keep it up!
It would be cool to watch you do something similar to candito 500x20 deadlift maybe like 600plus
Incredible work Mitch! I feel like ranting.
The most impressive squat I have ever seen was Big Z doing 329kg for 15 reps on the WSM axle bar.
Hooper casually did 235kg for 24 reps
Broscience time:
In a 1rm calculator, Z's comes to 493.5 kg. This feels about right for peak Z.
In a 1rm calculator, Hooper's comes to 429 kg. (probably below Mitch's peak squat)
If we reverse the calculations, Z's 493kg squat should be equivalent to... something north of 30+ reps. the calculators online don't go that far up and probably aren't accurate after 10reps. In conclusion, younger Big Z would eat this record for breakfast.
P.S: 2 years ago, Z did 320kg for 12 reps in the gym. which comes to about 448kg 1rm. Perhaps he could still beat it if his knees allow. It could be a fun collaboration to see if either of you can break it.
awesome awesome. thanks for the content Mitch!
Respect for squatting 525.
Let’s focus on the depth. Tom Platz squatted hams touching calves on every rep. Major difference in a full squat and a powerlifting depth squat.
Not taking anything away from your feat! Impressive. Comparing it to another’s feat without recognizing the depth….misses a BIG factor.

Very impressive. Both Mitchell Hooper and Matt Wenning are ridiculously strong. That being said, their depths are not the same as Platz. Who did it high bar, not low bar as stated.
Again, this guy is the worlds strongest man winner, a beast!
But, there is no comparison between these squats and an Olympic ATG squat. They're just not the same, that's all.
IMHO
Of course Tom Platz is a lot shorter, so he had a definite leverage advantage. Just some observations, all the these lifts are incredible.
Bruv isn't even going to parallel! Platz did ATG! The record is still held by Platz
That's insane even for powerlifting depth. Regarding the record set by Tom Platz we have to keep in mind Tom did olympic squats so to challenge his record you'd have to perform the more difficult variation (ATG).
Tom had also full powerlifting gear on, squat suit and knee wraps under pants.
Tom was under 200 lbs body weight and did deeper squats, so Tom is still the rep King.
