      Jake Dougherty check out my two most recent videos. I’ve got 3 spawns of F2 Rio Estrella myrnae growing out. I can’t guarantee any of the ones that I currently have will be available due to the fact that I’m going to hold some of them back I have a lot of local demand for them but they breed like rabbits for me so getting more won’t be an issue.

      @@ASAPpetinfo well that's good news, I was hoping they would breed like black convicts. I'm holding out hope someone may have them at the GCCA in chicago next month but I'll check those videos out, we'll have to see if we can work something out if you ever have extras

    I have officially kept all but altoflava and spilurus
    Also quick cheat sheet for pronunciations
    How I say everything:
    Amatitlania (ah-mah-tit-lah-nee-ah)
    Altoflava (all-toe-flah-vah)
    Kanna (kah-nah)
    Myrnae (mur-nay)

    Open to corrections if I got the proper pronunciations wrong
    Also the sajica are on the Pacific coast

      @ASAPpetinfo  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am missing a few more species than that, but I have kept at least half or more out of the three genera. I eventually want to cap off the whole list though. Spilurus is the last Cryptoheros species I am missing. Then I am missing a couple Amatitlania after that. For us US keepers getting altoflava is all but a dream sadly.
      And I appreciate the pointers as well! I definitely won’t go out of my way to say your pronunciations are right or wrong. I know a lot my pronunciations, especially that many years ago were bad haha. Although I hear so many people pronounce it all different ways. As long as it’s spelled right, no harm to foul. Appreciate the feed back and comments!

    Would these be ok in a 135 gallon with 5 trimac juveniles? Or would a 40 gallon with a pair work

    • @ASAPpetinfo
      @ASAPpetinfo  18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@cichlids253 Most of these species stay in the 4”-5” range, so a pair would do great in a 40g together of any of these species I talk about.
      As far as with the trimacs, it’s hard to say. I’m growing a group of trimacs right now, the largest being around 6”-7” and mine will not tolerate other fish. They really don’t even tolerate each other. It could work, but there’s a lot of factors at play like the size of the trimacs and the size of the convict type fish you want to add.

      @@ASAPpetinfo right on thanks for the reply yes my juvis are max 3 inches and are already fighting with each other in the 135 got the 40 today just need to get a heater for it the new fish would be 2.5 inches so mainly about the same size as the Trimac

    Great video... thanks for the info. it helps explaining all the reclassifications.👍👍 I I I understand why they split up the cryptoheros group, if it will help save some of these endangered species then its worth it. I still like saying CRYTOHEROS because its just fun to say, lol.
    Amitilania, is fun to say too,
    I will have to get used to calling them by that name.
    Northern =Crptoheros
    Southern=Amatilania
    ...does make it easier to remember the splitting of the group. ☺ Thanks again... more long videos explaining these reclassifications would be great... thanks.

    In 2016 a paper was done, it was found out that HRPs, nigrofasciata, and siquia don't have enough of a genetic difference to be considered different species and thus go under the name nigrofasciata because nigrofasciata is the older name

      I was put into play only a couple years ago so a lot of people have not heard the news yet. Not to mention most people look over the convict complex Because they think its a "boring" group of common fish, but they can in fact be very colorful and interesting. Not to mention rare and endangered. Thanks for watching and stopping by the channel man, have not seen you around in wile!

    They are all the same species, just local variations. They all can be interbred and the offspring is not sterile. Ichthyologists just want to name something. A long time ago in the 80s I breed hybrids. Meeki, Convict and Spilurum all in one fish. That created a hybrid looking close to a probable ancestor. This is a problem with all Cichlids that lay eggs on stones. Those eggs doesn't get stuck on water birds feet and spread around all the time like Cypriane. So it creates a lot of local variations separated from each other. Basically you can take any variant and move to a new habitat and a hundred generations later or even less you have a new species. Humans are guilty of moving fish around for a thousand years at least and in karst areas, any sinkhole was seeded for human consumption long ago. I claim you could classify all different color variations of Carassius Auratus(Goldfish) as different species as well with this Cichlid reasoning. DNA doesn't prove anything either because you can see difference even in such a stable species as Perca Fluviatilis(Yellow Perch).

    • @ASAPpetinfo
      @ASAPpetinfo  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The old argument of “if two species breed and their offspring are fertile means they’re the same species” hasn’t held any water in a very long time.
      You can see this observed in cichlids possibly more than nearly any other group.
      For example, breeding a managuense to a dovii will result in fertile offspring that you can then breed to another fish, however managuense and dovii are two fish in the same genus, but very blatantly two different species entirely.
      We could go a step further and look at flower horns. Mixed with trimaculatum, midas/red devil, various veija species and then some. For a while it wasn’t common to have fertile males, but now having a fertile male flower horn really isn’t anything special.
      There’s a virtually an endless list of cichlid crosses that I have seen, both in and out of the same genus that will produce fertile offspring.
      I even know a cichlid breeder that currently has a red dovii X festae male that is being bred with a red texas.
      4+ different species of fish, from 4 separate genus’s, and two separate continents that are still producing. And that alone breaks down that entire argument about the genetics. Genetics aren’t that simple, DNA and RNA are two hugely important things to look at when classifying fish.
      If we based it off of who can breed with who, and whose offspring are viable or not then the entire taxonomy of fish would be pointless. We’d have dovii, labiatus, carpintis and festae all in one genus, and obviously that’s nonsense.
