My favorite cichlid is the Severum. There are so many different titles and colors. I absolutely LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED this segment! It was nice to see all my favorite TH-cam channel in one spot! My second favorite cichlid is the Oscar.
I’m gonna have to say my Brilliant Turquoise Discus for the color and markings. As far as personality goes that would have to be my Red Spotted Gold Severum. Very interesting to see everyone’s choices, though I already knew John’s answer lol!
Same with Primetime aquatics, the Geophagus is really a stand out cichlid with its distinctive pattern and colorful hues! A peaceful community fish that could fit in a not so huge tank for less maintenance.

I agree with John from KGTropics, my all time favorite cichlid is definitely the oscars. They remind me of puppy dogs🐕 when they see you. I call them the water dogs.

I just picked up an Electric Blue Acara - my first cichlid! Just so happened to find the channel from your short about good tank mates for them. Loving the content so far. My EBA is beautiful, extremely active, and seems quite intelligent. He lives with some platies, corydoras, and a bristlenose pleco in a 40g. He doesn't bother the fish except for the platy fry, which I don't mind. A few still survive, and I made my community tank all female platies after raising a few batches of fry. Waiting for them to stop having babies so I can selectively breed them again.
What a great video. Gives a different perspective. I always had African cichlids. Kind of getting tired watching fins nipped. I moved from mbuna to haps. Even haps are chasing/nipping fins each other. But they are very interactive and have some character. I have decided to get a planted aquarium like Troy. Hopefully from custom aquarium. But I am doing some homework first. I am voting for all the species in Troys planted aquarium.
Kribensis, close second is severums. It's a difficult choice because I love'm all 😁 My most long lived favourite pet though was a Texas cichlid named Genghis 😊
My 1st Choice when I started in this Hobby 52 Years ago was the Oscar. Today 52 Years Later I Would say it would be the Venustus Cichlid. These guys are so Beautiful and Personable.
The humble Firemouth for me! I've got a soft spot for anything Thoricthys, but I love Firemouths. Their colours are so vibrant, they can hang out in groups without murdering each other, their display flaring is so entertaining. They also substrate sift as well, which makes them a good hard water alternative to Geos.
Great job dude, I too love my cichlids, I used to have a six foot American cichlid tank, but now I keep peacocks in a 345 litre tank, and I have 9 fontosa cichlids in another tank with 11 fairy cichlids. If I were to choose my favorite cichlid, I would say venustus. A Great fish, with a wonderful colouration . Lobe your video, please do more, kind regards

I’m a ex army veteran ten years serve. I originally got tropical fish for my PDSD. I have loads of army brothers who suffer the same, the price we pay for protecting our country. Keeping fish what ever kind they are has a relaxing effect on the mind, we all need to chill out from time yo time, life is more stressed as every year passes. I’ve watched many of your videos, plus other fish videos by other fish keepers in the USA. And the uk. I’m wondering if you can help me, I have a 3 foot aquarium which has a background which is covered in algae , the rank is empty at the moment. It had fish in it but now they are gone in to a larger tank. I’m going to set up this tank to a community tank, but I keep to remove the black-green algae which is very stubborn. Is the an easy way to remove and clean the rocky artificial background which has been silicone glued in. Any suggestions would be most appreciated from you. I started keeping fish back in the 1970s so a long time ago. I will look out for more of your videos as I find them very interesting. P.s. So many amazing cichlids out there, but one of my favorite fish of any kind is the Oscar cichlid. They have beautiful colors and patterns, and their personality and behaviors are so fascinating. The fact that they interact with you, and can be kept with many other kinds of fish is great, too.
great, great video and my favorite cichlid of all time are the Altum angels bcuz I can imagine having a diy 500 gallons full of them with probably 200 schooling fish 👀👀👀👀💪💯
Because of you guys Jason and John I am able to probably care for my fish. That being said Oscar, Uaru, leleupi, frontosa, never mind I can’t choose I have to many favorites.
I was just at a local fish store today to show my mom what Koi they have, because we are going to get a few soon. While there I showed her several other fish, but definitely pointed out the Frontosa to her. They even have a big circular display tank, with large mature cichlids in it that I do not think are for sale and they have several large Frontosa in there. I love the Frontosa, but there were several other great looking good sized African cichlids in that tank.
Very interesting topic. I honestly don't think I would be able to choose just "one" favorite, I have many favorites: I love my Geophagus, my Acaricthys Heckellis, my Uaru, Severum, the Mesonauta Ignis, which I think is a very underrated cichlid. Then from Central America I love Firemouths, Vieja Argentea, Jack Dempseys... Sorry can't pick just one... Love them all! Uhh and I left Apistos out... rude of me... Crenicichlas?...
There are many great cichlids, so it is hard to choose a favorite. All the favorites in this video were good choices. My favorites have been African cichlids for over 40 years. I do not currently have any cichlids tanks, so I don't have a favorite at the moment, but Electric Blue Jack Dempsey's look really good.
I love the amphilophus species they're so personable and you can treat them just like a dog with reaching in and petting them and they are like your best friend
I'm doing a 65 gal PLANTED TANK (cruicial to the topic) and am searching for a cichlid. My current choice is the Electric Blue Akara in gropup of 6 but I still struggle. Any recommendations over plant gentle cichlids?
