I don't know how the heck Eviternity is not S tier. Absolutely the best level design I have ever layed my eyes on. And its a huge amount of content. Never played Speed of Doom. Might need to check it out

Although I would place a lot of these in different spots, I absolutely loved hearing your opinions! This is a great set of all time classics too. You picked your first wads well. My top 3 would consist of Lost Civilization, Struggle and Stardate 20X7. And none of them are on here. You've got a lot of great experiences ahead of you still!
Thanks so much I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Yeah I still need to play the Stardates, Lost Civilization and Struggle. I've heard those are great. I think I put too many WADs in the A tier haha
No matter what your stance on doom mapping / wads / mods etc. is, the fact that hell revealed 2 is doo doo dog shit will bring the entire community together every time.
For me, I would put Hellbound, Ancient Aliens and Eviternity on top because they aren't terribly difficult, they are just right long and all have their own themes and they play it amazingly. (Hellbound as going through nicely detailed urban areas, Ancient Aliens for colourful insanity and Eviternity for realm travelling)
Thanks a lot for this Tier list; I'm revisiting Doom and it's custom-wad community after many years and this offers a great path to follow. Speed of Doom has been really fun.
Cool list. I would like to see more of these. It's really hard to search for wads and mods in general on here that aren't total conversations. Those seem to be getting all the attention now. I just recently got into modding after playing Doom since 1993 so trying to find the best megawads.

Great list! A lot of my desert island WADs are in your list as well! Always nice to see a fellow Speed of Doom enjoyer haha. I've been wanting to play Struggle, Lost Civ, and Nostalgia for a while. Those look amazing and I think they're right up my alley.
I havent played much, but Plutonia will always be an A for me, it was the thing that made me love challenging doom. Its why I even bothered to check out pwads, because it just said "theres so much that can be done with doom's combat", its the only IWAD i replay, and will be the only IWAD that appears on my channel.
I wil always commend Plutonia for how surgical it is with its monster placement. Even today it's the gold standard of doing a lot with a tiny monster count.
Some of my favourites (and what I'd guess you'd rank them at). Good Morning Phobos. Pretty pleasant to play, not too difficult, good ost. B rank. Combat Shock 2. For excessive slaughtermap action. B rank. Hellbound. Very atmospheric and chill. A rank. Jenesis. B rank. Slaughterfest 2012. A whole megawad full of slaughtermaps. C rank. Vanguard. An episode wad almost done in Valiant style. Very action packed. B or A rank.
I've heard of all of these and have them in my WAD folder. Can't wait to play them I've heard good things about all of them. I should have mentioned Slaughterfest 2012 since I did play that a long time ago. I love the infinite BFG you can get in that WAD. Good Morning Phobos is one I really want to play soon! I might start that when I finish Sunlust. Also really looking forward to Combat Shock 2 since it reminds me of one of my favorite WADs, Sunder.
TNT Evilution is my favorite out of the 4 official wads, for me its great maps like Wormhole, Steel Works, Mount Pain, and Heck eclipse the mediocre and bad maps. I guess doom 1 and 2 are too easy for me but Plutonia is too hard for me, so TNT hits that sweet spot
Nice! TNT is definitely a good balance inn difficulty. There is a lot of good maps in TNT. I especially love some of the early ones like Metal and Stronghold. Also love Caribbean, that might be much favorite TNT map.
Indeed! Cyriak is incredibly talented and creative. He is one of the best mapper in the Doom scene. He also made an amazing WAD called Overboard recently.
Okay, I'd like to throw in my few wads/total conversions I've played in over a decade of doom, new and old. Stronghold- Different game modes from your dad's doom but it's an absolute blast and would have deffo been a riot had I figured out multiplayer for DOOM. Skulldash- Lots of running around and tons of action. The 1024 series- Simple concept, based on game playable area. The levels are well designed and pleasing to the eye. Winter's Fury- Need I say more, this is one of those og conversion maps. A sequel is in the works and I think a demo(?) is out BTSX series- While it can get a bit overwhelming with the "Magnum Opus" theme running to all the absolutely spruced up and sexy techbases, it's definitely worth playing. Episode 3 is finally in the works after so long. Antaresian Legacy- Such a blast. Enough said. Reliquary though is not for the faint of heart. Zen Dynamics- Another partial conversion.A little rough on the difficulty sometimes, but still great. Whitemare 1 and 2- A snow themed wad. Great for christmas ig. The JPCP- the doom community from anime land do make absolute bangers. this is one of them. Aliens Colonial Marines, Golden Souls, Ashes 2063 are some more partial/total conversions that are great to sink your teeth into. I've played way more than this but these are the good ones that come to mind. Thx for that Deus Vult placement, I thought I was insane for not liking it when I played it a couple years ago.
Thanks for the recommendations! I can't wait to lay BTSX and JPCP and Zen Dynamics and Whitemare. Also really looking forward to playing Antaresian Legacy, I hear the new weapons and soundtrack is so good in that one!
I have fond memories of the '94 Aliens Total Conversion and also I think there were a couple Evil Dead/Army of Darkness wads. They were both perfect fits for the game and I wonder if some of the standalone AvP and Evil Dead games would have been made, were it not for the free proof of concept.
I'm close to completing most of the dean's list. I'm about to finish schythe 2 (stuck in afterlife 2), then move onto sunlust (beat SL with saves) I'm uv max Pistol starting them all. Struggle is my favorite wad of all time for wads with custom weapons, if you like valiant, struggle is a treat.
Good luck with Scythe 2! Afterlife 2 is the hardest map so once you're through that it's smooth sailing until the end! And what an end it is, probably my favorite finale of any WAD I can't wait to play Struggle, I've heard it's incredible and the clips I've seen of it look so fun. The soundtrack is also amazing.
best of luck with God Machine, I hope to join you in the journey to single segment UV Maxing sunlust one day.. but here I am steuggling with Rush, so a bit of a way to go!
Plutonia 2, PRCP, and the Doomer Boards Projects. The last one is a series of speedmads usually under 10-ish levels but sometimes can go up to half a megawad. Quality varies but the good ones shine well.DBP 60 is out and it looks pretty good.
I'll have to check out the latest DBP that sounds awesome. I love those projects. I played Plutonia 2 a couple years ago and it's an absolute blast. One of my favorites for sure. I can't wait to play PRCP.
@@jikissgamer Good DBPs I can recommend are 28 (if you like Doom 3), 29 (bit spotty and map05 is a prick, consider playing on HMP for better fun), 37 (the wonderful AUGER;ZENITH), 50 (no caveats) and 59 (the incredible Zeppelin Armada, even more classic than 37).
@@DinnerForkTongue Augur Zenith looks amazing, that's been on my list for a while. I'll check out these others too. There are so many gems among the DBPs.
HR1 & HR2 are so polarizing. I feel like people need to step outside themselves and understand these are the OGs. Not everything started off as Skillsaw and I feel like people hate on it too much. Respect your elders, ya know? I also love MM1 and 2. I’m a sucker for that 90s core. Great list. I pretty much fully agree with you here.
Thanks for watching Tony! I actually plan to properly play Hell Revealed 1 and 2 someday since I've never beaten them. I actually really like a lot of Hell Revealed 1 maps though, I did a UV-Max of 24 a while ago. Another 90s one I want to try is Requiem, have you played that?
Yeah! It’s dope! Huge fan! Unholy Realms is awesome too. I’m replaying that now. And I always recommend ALT. It’s so strange but it pulls you in. It’s got some amazing maps. It’s like Bloodstain. No one really knows about it but if you play it, you’re like wow, this is great! Check it out.
@@tonyd6665 Will do! I actually downloaded ALT recently and have been meaning to check it out! And I've had my eye on Unholy Realms for a while after watching some speedruns of it. Thanks for the recommendations!
My list is very similar to this. Except that I would put SoD and Scythe 2 in A. While on the other hand, I would put Valiant, AA, Eviternity, Heartland, Sunlust and Struggle at S tier. Also I would recommend to check out Eviternity 2 if you haven't. It looks like a great sequel so far.
This is a pretty solid list! If you're looking for more fun wads to play, I suggest Plutonic Visions. It's a Plutonia themed wad that offers a good challenge
This is a pretty solid list, and seems like you're a pretty experienced/knowledgeable player to boot. You should rank Memento Mori 1/2 and Requiem if you get the chance. PS what is the track around 5:55? Sounds like a Mark Klem track but can't pinpoint it
Thanks for watching! I definitely plan to play Memento Mori and Requiem, I've heard those are really fun. That song is indeed a Mark Klem midi called Underdeath, it's actually from map 8 of Requiem. I know it from Sunder though cause it's in that WAD too.
I have a soft spot for HR 2 but I barely do full replays of it. I mostly play a selection of maps that I consider the "highlights" kind of a best of the wad. A lot of the maps are ugly as shit and unfun like the early like 10 levels or so. But there are also gems in this wad some of my fav levels ever like the Map15, Map20, Map26, Map27 and Map29
Nice! I do plan to properly play HR 1 and 2 in the future since I was never able to beat them in the past. I definitely like several maps in those. I remember map 32 being really fun in HR2, that giant slaughter map. I also love the soundtrack of HR2, those tracks by Thyrbse are so good.
My personal S tier: Eviternity, Ancient Aliens, Going Down, Sunder, Sunlust, Deus Vult and I'd add MSCP. I could be stranded on an island playing just these wads for life xD. But for DV tho I don't get the hate, I feel like the only thing that didn't age well is the fact that edginess is not cool anymore. Sure the quality does decrease in part 3 with a lot of it feeling like padding, but visually and conceptually it's an easy S to me. In my (unpopular) opinion the other early 2000s wads like AV and scythe (1&2) aged much worse. They're great for their era but I feel 0 urge to replay them today.
Deus Vult was fun! By aged badly I was mostly referring to all the references like goatse, Saddam Hussein and Bin Laden, those are all very mid 2000s. I mostly love Deus Vult and I think I would raise it a bit higher in retrospect. I'm a much bigger fan of AV and Scythe though, simply because i like the MegaWAD structure. I do gotta check out Micro Slaughter soon! I've heard it's super fun.
@@jikissgamer Yea I get it but all that stuff is in the secrets which also do a good job to also have a theme of their own and don't interfere with the main map theme. I know it's nostalgia for me too since it was one of the first wads I played but anyway :P And yea check out microslaughter. It's its format that does it for me cause I love slaughter but many maps get tiring from the grind and the difficulty (especially when you're no doomgod).
@@eircK Agreed! It actually took me a while to warm up to slaughter maps but I started to appreciate them more after playing some of the famous ones. Speed of Doom in particular made me a fan of slaughter maps, that has some really fun ones. Microslaughter and the Combat Shocks are some of my most anticipated slaughter WADs! I will probably start those once I wrap up my current playthrough (PRCP).

Yeah I unfortunately forgot to include that one! That was one of my earliest WADs actually. I remember really liking it! Map 22 in particular was awesome.
@@jikissgamer Yes good map! The puzzle like nature of DOOM ZERO as a whole was really fun and I loved the story concept - ending was a perfect tie-in to 2016. Ancient Aliens and Blood Stain are next on my list. And I pray they make an Eviternity 2!
@@observantdreamer Agreed! Ancient Aliens is freakin incredible, you're going to love it! Absolutely stunning visuals and music in that one. Bloodstain is also fantastic, but I must warn you it is suuuper hard. I suffered quite a bit near the end in that one, but I had a great time with it overall. Good luck!
DOOM 1 and 2 are classic, love me some WADS, mega WADS, and complete overhauls, but without OG DOOM, we wouldnt have those. Nice tier list, can you do one for mods as well? Liked and subbed thanks!!
@@jikissgamerhe was making one XD, but now he has some super important medicine job, maybe when he retires he will return.. in like 2054. Doom 12 will probably be out by then
Yeah Sunder's original 14 maps actually released way back in 2009 and then the creator took a long break after that. Then 10 years later he returned and added 8 new maps to Sunder for a current total of 22 maps. One WAD that reminds me of Sunder is Combat Shock 2, that's one I'm really looking forward to playing.
I'm suprised the wads are higher than the main games considering their not from the original makers but then again because they arent considered canon I havent played them.
Because the community has preceding experience, plenty of time and willingness to create without compromises of creating a commercial product, fan mappers have picked up the original design and refined it _to a razor's edge._ You may come to Doom for Doom, but you stay in Doom for the wads.
Yessss. I’ve never even heard of Doom/2: “the way ID did it;” most of these I haven’t heard of actually. Just the list of names would be cool. I usually just copy/paste the names into google then type download at the end to get the wads. That’s super easy to do.
@@anthenyiscool2758 Nice! Doom 1 and 2 the Way ID Did are excellent reimaginings of the original two games and I think they're perfect for people who are new to custom WADs. They're not much of a challenge compared to something like Sunlust but they're very fun and nostalgic!
I don't know if you have played enough WADs for a tier list yet. You haven't played any of the NOSPs, Combat Shocks, Back to Saturn X, Fractured Worlds, Breathless, Dimensions, Okuplok, Abandon, Hardfest, Entropy, Dance on the Water, Frog, Toad, Frog and Toad, Crumpets, Stardate 20x6, Stardate 20x7, Swim with the Whales, Italo Doom, Microslaughter Community Project, No Chance, Magnolia, Slaughter Max, Flotsam, Occula, Profane Promiseland, Cryogenics, Death in Excess, Capybara, Cosmogenesis, Toilet of the Gods, Haste, Overboard, Axolotl, Not Even Remotely Fair, The Event Horizon, The Master Levels, or Summer of Slaughter. And I would personally recommend My House.wad as well.
That's kind of the problem with Doom WADs in general tho isn't it? There must be thousands of WADs out there worth playing and I have a backlog of them spanning probably decades if I decide to play them all. A lot of these you mentioned don't really appeal to me though, like SlaighterMAX, Cosmogenesis, Frog and Toad and the like. And I'll admit that I'm just not a good enough Doom player to get through those without a trillion saves haha. I much prefer stuff like Sunlust and Valiant which feel like proper games, rather than just one large combat arena after another, however I'm not against ever trying them. I would love to experience every WAD ever made but this list here (while I already regret some of my rankings lol) is just the result of 2 years playing Custom WADs. I have played MyHouse though! I made two videos about it. I played that after I made this video which is why it wasn't included.
@@jikissgamer Sunder has the best slaughter fights like the basement in map 32 and the cyberdemon rush in map 20, Dimensions has good ones too, map 2 being the only non slaughter map and arguably map 32. Most slaughter fights are easy and boring, especially when the clean up devolves into circle strafing for ages. Even Eviternity has some good arena fights, not all incidental combat, easier sure but good. Demon, Chronology, that one hell map, that one room indoors in that snowy medieval map, and the final fight in Aragnorisis come to mind. Although I generally prefer small, cramped fights like in Italo Doom, Sunder map 19, D5DA2 map 55, the final fight in Curvular, or like the first fight in Outhouse from Slaughter Max.
@@jamez6398 Sunder is my favorite Slaughter wad, I can't wait to play Map 21 when Insane Gazebo finishes it! Map 32 of Sunder is probably my favorite in the WAD, such good atmosphere and music. I've seen speedruns of Dimensions map03 and holy sh** that looks wild haha. Eviternity is also a masterpiece, I played that a couple years ago and it's incredible map 32: Anagnorisis is definitely my favorite in Eviternity, I love how huge and non-linear it is. I'm thinking of playing Italo Doom someday since I loved Sunlust so much, can't go wrong with Ribbiks and Danne! I've never heard of Curvular though, I'll have to download and check that out.
@@jikissgamer Curvular is intermediate difficulty, it isn't crushingly difficult like Sunder map 19, Dimensions maps 2 or 3, or D5DA2 map 55, and it isn't easy (well I struggle even with saves) like Eviternity. It's somewhere in between.
Would I be a bother if I asked you the names of the music tracks played during the video, or at least the one that plays while you're talking about No End In Sight? They're really catchy! =)
No problem! In order the tracks are 1-Nightfall by Stuart Rynn 2-Underdeath by Mark Klem 3-Industrial by Simon Judd 4-Scythe Map 19 - 3000 Ad (I don't know the original source but it's from Scythe.wad) 5-Heartbeat by Stuart Rynn
What?!?! No. Hell Revealed 2 is my all time favorite wad. What was the issue you were complaining about? The difficulty? They have adjusted to play on I'm to young too die, though as someone who typically isn't good at video games, I can do UV Max with only some difficulty
That's impressive! Hell Revealed 2 is extremely hard. I typically play WADs on Ultra Violence and was very young when I first played it around when it came out. I had very bad experience with it my first time, but maybe I'll try it again someday.
@@jikissgamer I had the same issue, I was young when I first started playing, for hr2, I played with iddqd on, now that I'm older, I play regular and find it a very good wad.
Would put that in B or even C tier anyway. Everytime I start episode 1 of btsx I play like the first 10 maps and then it gets super boring. All the same texture work, same-ish map layouts, same-ish fights and ambushes, even midis aren't really memorable (with exceptions of course). It looks hella epic the first time but it doesn't really have the depth of other classics in my opinion
They're just opinions, and I would change some of my rankings looking back. Sunder is definitely harder than HRII but I think it's much better designed.
As a project beyond DOOM, it'sbsolute banger. As a playable wad itself- meh. It's just food for ARG/Spooktubers at this point but I'm glad it brought more eyes to the community, casual or otherwise.
@@seansullivan7928the problem with btsx is that a lot of the maps not only look, but play the same a lot of the time. It's a good wad, but there are definitely better ones (Eviternity, Scythe 2, Ancient Aliens etc..)
This tier list is supported with lots of surface-level opinions about each wad with nothing interesting or provoking stated. You don’t even know why you put HR2 in F, you did so just for the memes when you haven’t even finished the entire thing. If you can stomach TNT but can’t handle HR2, I don’t know what you’re smoking. HR1 is objectively worse than the second, but they’re both still solid. There’s way way worse things out there made today. 2/5 tier list, and that’s only because you put Sunder in the right spot.
The feedback is appreciated! They're just opinions after all. You have yours I have mine. I am also kind of disappointed with this tier list cause like I said, I just threw it together when I was bored. Looking back I should have included footage and wrote a script. HR2 I do find to be an absolutely miserable set of maps, I honestly thinking you're insane for finding any joy in that lol. HR1 was far more memorable and less torturous.
That's a good question! MyHouse was amazing, it's one of my all time favorite maps and it completely swept the Doom community. I'd be crazy to give it anything lower than S-tier. It deserves it.
Evilution will always be F in my eyes, why? When first time me and my dad tried to play it, game had autorun off by default ( english isnt our first language, and i was wee lad barely few years old) so we never could beat map2 that required jump from gallery to the stairs,

Good list! I agree with all of it except Speed of Doom haha. I really gotta play the BTSX series. I hear so much good things about those. And Vanguard! I hear that one is excellent, I love skillsaw's work so I'm looking forward to that one! And yeah the Master Levels absolutely belong in F haha.
@@jikissgamer In regards to Back to Saturn X, stick with Get Out of My Stations. Episode 2 was just... uuuggghhh.
Vanguard is awesome and it arguably contains the best Epilogue level ever. Only problem is it's somewhat short. Wish it was longer.
@@Romy2184 Yeah I've heard that E2 of BTSX has some gigantic and confusing levels. I've been listening to some BTSX E1 music lately and it's so good. I love that track that also shows up in Resurgence map 19.

Not a tier list but my "stranded on an island" ones, some are not perfect but I enjoy even their flaws
-Lost Civilization
-Scythe 2
-Struggle: Antaresian Legacy
-Hearthland (not sure if something this short counts)
-Valiant
-Going Down
-Ancient Aliens
-Eviternity
-Sunlust
-Epic 2
-Nostalgia
-Speed of Doom
-NERF (The only Nightmare only I know it's good)
Sunlust is 100% an S tier wad the level quality is insane but its HARD on UV i had to try 284 times to do god machine pistol start no saves
Ad Mortem, Hellforged, Eviternity, Super Mayhem, Going Down, all god tier.
Wow I knew Cyriak is the amazing animator but I never realized that he made 'Going Down' and the music.
A sequel is in the works and I think a demo(?) is out
BTSX series- While it can get a bit overwhelming with the "Magnum Opus" theme running to all the absolutely spruced up and sexy techbases, it's definitely worth playing.
For me, the best mappack in looks and map design, without anything over the top, that keep the vanilla doom feeling is:
=> Lost civilisation.
Solid tier list. I was not aware of Bloodstain. Thanks for the suggestion!
And what an end it is, probably my favorite finale of any WAD
I can't wait to play Struggle, I've heard it's incredible and the clips I've seen of it look so fun. The soundtrack is also amazing.
best of luck with God Machine, I hope to join you in the journey to single segment UV Maxing sunlust one day.. but here I am steuggling with Rush, so a bit of a way to go!
The first Doom deserves an S-tier for starting all of this. Without the first, there would be no WADs for anyone.
Personally, a tierlist should be about the quality of the content within, not so much the historical importance attached.

@@Mr.Coffee576 glad you found the video helpful! Yeah the master levels are definitely an F tier wad haha. I still never finished those.
I played the wad "brotherhood of ruin". Simply amazing
Nice! I just looked it up and downloaded it. It looks awesome!
Bro, you're a legend for doing this. 👏

You're wild for putting HR2 in F tier.
I didn't enjoy either of the Hell Revealeds but I would still upgrade it to D tier at least
I would not put doom 1 and doom 2 in the same tier, doom 1 levels are way more solid, but 2 is good because of the super shotgun and more enemy types.
Hey bro, thanks for showcasing one of tunes.
Thanks for making the tunes! Your compositions have been a big part of my childhood.
I’d put Scythe in C tier
This is a pretty solid list! If you're looking for more fun wads to play, I suggest Plutonic Visions. It's a Plutonia themed wad that offers a good challenge
Vanguard and Moonblood are also some fantrastic ones that aren't on the list, play them a bunch, haven't quite finished Moonblood yet though
I need to play those! I've heard Vanguard is really good and it's made by the same creator from Ancient Aliens and Valiant.
I also love the soundtrack of HR2, those tracks by Thyrbse are so good.
i like chillax best only because it has awesome music
Chillax is really cool! I really like the suped up Sunder maps in that.
it's so bloody fun with russian overkill mod
Have you played serious sam? Haven't played any wads, but serious sam is what id imagine a game of just slaughter maps is like

sunder is amazing but it only has like 20 levels i think , the one i have has 14 , is there another wad like sunlust or sunder out there????
Yeah Sunder's original 14 maps actually released way back in 2009 and then the creator took a long break after that. Then 10 years later he returned and added 8 new maps to Sunder for a current total of 22 maps.
One WAD that reminds me of Sunder is Combat Shock 2, that's one I'm really looking forward to playing.
I would give S or A too all of these wads. I wouldn´t do the same to most wads or megawads in the doomworld archive.
Plutonia belongs in F, that's factual.
Based.
Name of wads all in order
You have a good memory
I'm suprised the wads are higher than the main games considering their not from the original makers but then again because they arent considered canon I havent played them.
Because the community has preceding experience, plenty of time and willingness to create without compromises of creating a commercial product, fan mappers have picked up the original design and refined it _to a razor's edge._

@@jikissgamer
Sunder has the best slaughter fights like the basement in map 32 and the cyberdemon rush in map 20, Dimensions has good ones too, map 2 being the only non slaughter map and arguably map 32.

Curvular is intermediate difficulty, it isn't crushingly difficult like Sunder map 19, Dimensions maps 2 or 3, or D5DA2 map 55, and it isn't easy (well I struggle even with saves) like Eviternity. It's somewhere in between.
@@jamez6398 Nice! Curvular sounds like something I would probably enjoy. Similarly with Stardate 20x6 I always thought that looked really fun.
Would I be a bother if I asked you the names of the music tracks played during the video, or at least the one that plays while you're talking about No End In Sight? They're really catchy! =)
