    I grew up right next to Lakehurst NAS where they had a squadron of these and where they developed catapults in the 1950s. They were a common sight back then and had a very distinctive roar.

    Fantastic build! I have to say the Panther is one of those jets that just has beautiful lines. Even on the ground it looks like it’s going fast! The natural metal finish is astounding, I struggle with it still after 30+ years of modelling!

    • @HammerheadModelMaking
      @HammerheadModelMaking  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you, yes I agree, natural metal finishes can be tough, but I think these Vallejo metallic paints help out a little.

    You have a black cat that likes to help! I had a similar buddy who was a good modeling helper. He would sit in the box or right off to the side. I got him as a kitten so he was trained early on what not to do. He unfortunately was very sick and passed away in October. Building models hasn't been quite the same since.

    • @HammerheadModelMaking
      @HammerheadModelMaking  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sorry for the loss of your cat. Yeah mine thinks he's helping, but mostly he just sneaks on to my workbench at night and knocks over my brush cleaning water!

    • @chrissakal532
      @chrissakal532 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @HammerheadModelMaking I wanted to say thank you! I had been traveling and was watching a bunch of your videos while relaxing and working on some models I took with me. Seeing your cat made me laugh. In all fairness, I got Carl as a kitten and had him for 13 years. He learned what not to do. If the box lid was big enough (like 1/32 or larger) I would just flip it over and he'd lay in that..his 'model building command post'. Otherwise, he'd just lay off to one side and supervise. I don't really recall him breaking anything. He sometimes dragged parts out on his own though. I was able to get some good pictures of him helping.

      @HammerheadModelMaking  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@chrissakal532 Sounds like you two had a good bond. I love that. We've got a few cats in the house, and most of the time the leave my hobby room alone (they don't like it when the compressor kicks on) but occasionally when I'm working at the bench late at night, they'll come explore and supervise. Cheers!

    Enjoyed your build greatly. The silver is a nice touch, and I'm quite certain more period correct for the era, even if the Navy Blue has a greater impact for many. I found references for the cockpit in museum static displays, but adding switch covers in color, or safety ribbons would be tedious and probably distract many. Thanks for the video. Not many of these planes left on the planet, and I'm glad someone notices their contributions to aviation.

    Beautiful build! I don't think I've ever seen a Panther in a nmf and the Jolly Rogers markings give it an added cool factor as well. I have this kit too. From England, another very enjoyable video sir. Is there a personal reason for your "Jolly Rogers" interest? I only ask because I have an Academy 1/48 Phantom F4J "Jolly Rogers" of USS Franklin D. Roosevelt so I'm a fan aswell.. My particular favourite post war aircraft, it just looks like it was meant to destroy things. Anyhow I had a model of the Panther when I was a kid too many years ago and remember liking its shape. Mine was dark blue Navy brushed on, so I dread to think what it looked like. Great stuff sir.
