    Just so sad to see how these are shipped... Agreed, don't buy those and perhaps even limit the trade and spare them a bit. Thanks for the vid man!
    I'm considering these to fill my snake's terrarium again, which died after 17,5 years about 4 weeks ago (had to put it down at the vet). I buried it in the field right here and still feel bad about it. Those crabs at least deserve some good research before I might even start...I'm mostly worried about the temperature. Even inside my place, in summer it gets way above 28 degrees Celsius (82.4 F?) over here. Like 32 and more (90 F +). I'd need a proper cooling for those days, if I go for it..

    • @IndoorEcosystem
      @IndoorEcosystem  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Sorry to hear about your snake 😥17.5 years is a fairly long time, you must have been very attached.
      They crabs are super cool once they get used to you. Second generations (tank born) aren't shy at all I have a fair few videos of them getting hand fed and stuff. I've had my tanks get to 32C during the summer but it's only for a few hours before it drops back down over night. Heating them in winter is my biggest issue.
      I've spoken with a few guys from India who had major issues during heat waves and they have PC fans rigged up to help pass air through their tanks. It isn't pefect as it can be nearly 40c some days but they said it helps a lot.

    • @sammiesalmiak3557
      @sammiesalmiak3557 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@IndoorEcosystem - Thanks man, appreciate all that 👍 And yes, apparently I was a lot more attached than I did already.
      But wow, 40 actually sounds a lot worse, I'm surprised if they survive. But maybe with fans, for a bit yes. There is hope then with 32 I guess. And the heating I don't worry about, I can keep using the reptile lamps for that. The little buggers would get like a 120x50x70 cm (LxWxH) place to stay in. I'd do some scaping, add a pump, everything. Already for that the crabs do seem fun actually (and look great) I totally believe you they'll get used to you. I have that with most animals. Even with my fish, there is some sort of hate-love understanding when I mess with their plants. Tiny catfish with an attitude, splashing water in my face when I open the lid, bastards...not that friendly at all. 😋
      Cheers man! I'll subscribe as well.

      @sammiesalmiak3557 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      P.s.: with 32 degrees, those fish are right at, or over their limit as well actually... just these crabs are a bit different again. But ok.

    Just bought my first 2 vampire crabs. My boyfriend already has a vivarium with frogs, fish and shrimp so we will be building together a tank for the crabs. Right now they seem to be thriving in a plastic container with water, rocks, plants, fishfood, etc. I'm assuming as long as I see them moving around and active they are happy? It will take a few days for their new tank to be built and a water heater to come in.

    • @IndoorEcosystem
      @IndoorEcosystem  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      They will be fine in a plastic container for a while if you have it set up nicely. Food, water, soil and the right temps. If you see them roaming around all is well :D The only thing you need to keep an eye on is fighting if you have quite a few males.

    • @IndoorEcosystem
      @IndoorEcosystem  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If the TDS is too low it can yes.
      It will depend a little on the species of shrimp you have though. Somewhere between 150 and 300 is pretty normal but I'd also be checking GH and KH as well. It all kinda comes together as a little puzzle. With diet also playing a really big role.

      Local from local breeders or shops is the best option.
      If you don't have any local breeders or shops selling them try to find a very high quality online store in your country.
      Whatever you do do not get them from outside of your country. You will just get dead crabs 100% of the time.
      They aren't available in a lot of countries either because of biosecurity and invasive species dangers.

    One of my crabs I bought just one month ago just stopped moving and reacting to anything. She was very active for the last cople of days. She was even attacking other crabs yesterday. Today as she was running all over the tank (that's pretty unusual as she's normally very shy and hides all the time) I noticed she was missing one leg. I wasn't too concerned about it though. Then after few hours of intensive sightseeing she just stopped in one spot and stopped moving. I think she's dead as she won't even react to touch. I don't know what happened to her.

    • @IndoorEcosystem
      @IndoorEcosystem  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That's super super weird, I haven't seen anything like that before. Especially with females. A missing leg usually means a male tried to mate with her. But for her to be super active then just drop dead is really weird. Maybe it was some sort of a stress thing. But I'd only be guessing

    • @mp12237

      @@IndoorEcosystem I can't imagine what could have stressed her out that much. There wasn't anything extraordinary happening. It's so sad that she died. Fortunatelly, she left some heritage last week. I can't wait for those baby crabs to grow.

    • @IndoorEcosystem
      @IndoorEcosystem  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If you crabs are wild caught and not tank born they probably won't let you hand feed them and will run away when you get close. My crabs are all captive bred in my own tanks so they are super chilled while I'm around. Once you have babies you will notice the difference.
      As for the food they graze on everything else in the tank as well. The pick at bits and peices all day so don't expect them to sit in one spot and east an entire slice of cuccumer etc. It might take a week for the cuccumber to dissapear and most of that will be the springtails and isopods. As long as you are mixing different food types over a month your crabs will be happy. Some days mine love mealworms some days they won't touch them. they are random like that :D
